It sounded like you guys were very well in tune, only sounding like one instrument. :)
I like how the brass had a nice warm sound with good tone. Very Nice (I'm a trumpet player) ;)
I think the solos could have had more scalewise motion and articulation to keep it interesting. Kind of got boring after a while. Also, the second trumpet soloist sounded like he was rushing. Third trumpet was pretty nice though. ;)
hhaha well hope your still playing an you listened to yur band director.. Jazz blues funk whatever it's all good.. music is a gift.. keep it alive bro.. the Band sounded.. good.. what I was aying is @ that young age not many teens understand what improv is and are intimidated into taking a risk.. which is one part of true improv/composing on site.. around a familiar tune..
not too bad. but i personally feel like the drums were way too heavy, especially at the beginning. and i dont think that the soloists could feel the pulse from the rhythm section. they were giving them a steady pulse, but i dont think they clicked.
Absolutely amazing piece, my swing band's playing it and it's my favourite out of all the ones we've played so far! There should be a clip of it on YouTube soon, hopefully!
So fluffy. Not that this is bad, but next time slow it down, and get dirty with it. Saxes make those things growl and bone section, belt out the main lines. Trumpets....get some energy. I though trumpets had the ego and I hear them the least.
Not meaning to rag on ya to much. Just my 2 cents.
I agree with you, Snare02. I'm a trumpet player and I played this recently with my swing band, the trumpet part's supposed to be really energetic, I think we played it energetically! It'll be uploaded soon so I can hear the whole thing from an outsider's point of view, which I've always wanted to do!
lol this is the same arrangement my middle school jazz band did excxept we did the12 bar blues with the rythm section at the beggining with solos lol good job and good tenor solo.
taiwon1, this is what YouTube is for. If it's pros you want go and spend some money! Some of these guys might turn out great. I reckon their music teachers have done a fine job.
I play 1st trombone for my School Jazz Band, and we rock with this song. It one of our favourite songs to play, but We have a kinda different score than this one. there is more to do for the trombones specially. they don't have the trombone solo in it either!o.O
But I still think it could of been quite a bit fatser.
I know what you're talking about, I'm not that great at trombone lol, I just switched like 4 weeks ago to it (I play tuba in wind symphony and marching band) but I'm 3rd chair. This is one of our fave charts to, but the bone solo rocks.
omg this song is awesome, i once had the opportunity to play along with bruce johnstone at a jazz concert bc my band director knows him, he is like the best bari saxist i ever heard, and his life story is incredible, hes been with many of the greats of jazz
I would say that it depends on what you are used to. i have played low brass my whole career and i picked up a coronet which is supposed to be harder and i learned crazy train in less than 5 minutes. so it really depends.
Yeah, I agree with Chabo555, it depends on how much experience you've had. I played the trumpet part recently with my swing band and had no difficulty at all. By the way, awesome band and very well played!
my jazz ensemble is tem times better at this song than these guys r

Really good, but it could have been more Swingy, bluesy, and Jazzy. Nice solos. Don't be afraid to go a little slower. Altogether really nice.
