how to boot a mac into safe mode

@lunatixgrafiti does yours load at all? its just loading the OS, if you have alot of stuff on there it will take a while, however if its just doing it for no reason and not loading, then you probably have either a permissions problem or have tampered with files you shouldnt have tampered with, try repairing permissions first and try repairing the disk too using disk utility

My parents' iMac has been accidentally booted into Safe Mode several times, the first time it happened I was using it and the progress bar came up, I couldn't understand why, then when Snow Leopard came up I couldn't adjust the volume, the system eventually froze and I had to force power down the computer, it also happened once when my brother was using it, we must have bumped the shift key by mistake without realising it.

Looks like you should get a Mac snow leopard disk an go into disk utilities and wipe the drive... then Install Snow leopard

hey i need some help please!!! just bought a mac a couple of days ago, (powermac g4 with mirrored drive door) booted it up for the first time today and it didnt recognise my keyboard, (plugged in windows one instead) it froze so i rebooted it, it gave me a message saying please restatr your computer. i reset it and now it just gives me a white screen, no apple logo or spinning wheel. it just sits there and does nothing, and i cant hear the hard drive doing anything. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!!!!!!!

@LL1K use the apple keyboard \which will give you access to all the Macs features u may be getting a kernel panic because either something has gone bad with OS X or a hardware problem may be causing it

@LL1K reboot the Pram there's some videos here in youtube how to do it it will solve it if you still have the issues you probably need to replace your keyboard.

Safe Mode basically disable all start up programs so it doesnt crash and you can figure out the problem. Nice video dude!

Ok, how did you get past your log in screen? It didn't look like you typed any password in.

I'm so frustrated. When I start mine up in safe mode, it just keeps looping back to the login screen. No matter how many times I enter my password. The screen turns blue and then the login pops up again. Anyone have any tips?

@geminirock19 try repairing permissions and repair ur hard drive verify to see if its working correctly if it is then there is a possible issue with OS X letting u log in what mac do u have?

@geminirock19 Ya that happened to me one time I forgot about that. I was setting permissions an I some how screwed up the key chain login thingamagig. I had to use the installation disk and go through the process. That was scary it was only two weeks old at the time. take care
