People who can pick and sing like these guys can are truly touched by the LORD and HIS angels...thanks to all of you that can sing and pick and play such heart warming music...we will go to heaven a SHOUT-IN !!!!
My uncle chose to play this song at his funeral. He passed away 10 years ago from cancer at 28. He was my favorite uncle and he we always be missed by me
She told me the songs her brother said he wanted played at his funeral, she said it was "something about a mountain". I didn't know what song she was talking about, but hoped it would be many years before she'd hear it played at his funeral. I heard this song less than one year later. Personal demons became too great a battle. He left behind his only son, his fiancee and his family. They miss him daily.
i remember my dad everytime i hear this song. he has been in heaven almost 15 years now and i heard this song coming home from his funeral. It gave me peace of mind and hope to see him again one day,
Me dearest and sweetest Mother comes to my mind every time I hear this song. She was a special woman of God, loved by all who knew her, and was a blessing to many throughout her life of 89 years. She was my Mother, My Best Friend, My hero, my advisor. I will meet her in heaven when I die, just inside the Eastern Gate, along with all of my saved loved ones who have passed on. Thank you Lord for your promises.
We had this special song played at my youngest brothers funeral 6 long and miserable lonesome years ago..I still cry each time I listen to it..Without a doubt the most beautiful song ever..I still remeber my brother, Jon and I listening to Vince Gill casettes while painting our mothers living room!! Vince Gill you are truly THE BEST!!!
This is gorgeous. I listen to the words and the music bleeds into the words and I go over and over it like that. It is sad but joyous in Christ. God bless you for singing this out of your brokenness.
Vince Gill sings this like no other..because he wrote it in pain..GOD BLESS Him & his GOD given musical talent! Can anyone not tear up with this song?
I know the Isaacs (Sonya, Becky, Ben, and Lily), and see them probably once or twice a year. Very nice people. Vince couldn't have got a better or more talented group to sing backup on this very beautiful song with him.
sorry for your loss but as Christen you can take comfort in knowing that you will meet him again in the most wonderful place that is beyond our imagenation
Breathtakingly beautiful. Thanks to Bill Gaither for having him as a guest that night, because his group's lovely refrain was also breathtakingly beautiful. I don't know how Vince kept from just "losing it" when they began to softly sing it after he was finished. I couldn't even keep from losing it, myself. (But then I've never made it through that song since he first recorded it, without tears.)
Tender, Soulful, Beautifully written by Vince Gill. Vince Gill is a great musician, a great singer, but above all...a song WRITER....He speaks from the heart; and it is obvious! Muti-talented! Music at its best!
To anyone who has lost a loved one this is truely the song to help try an mend our hearts... I lost my sister about 16months ago an it still like yesterday i dont understand why she had to be taken from me but at least she isnt in pain anymore an in my heart is with god now an is the happiest she has ever been your truely miss my sister Teresa Lynn Baldwin Taylor love your sister connie
I LOVE THIS SONG , CAUSE MY UNCLE PAST AWAY IN MY HOUSE. THIS IS WHAT MY DAD SUNG AT MY UNCLES FUNERAL. I MISS YOU UNCLE MIKE. I FALL ASLEEP CRYING EVERY NITE CAUSE I MISS YOU SO MUCH!
you are partially correct. Vince Gill wrote this song for his brother after he killed himself; brother suffered from some emotional problems. Because of his brother's struggles, Vince Gill was particularly touched by his buddy Keith Whitley's battle with alcoholism. No matter the impetus for writing the song, God's hand was absolutely upon Vince Gill when he wrote this, one of the most beautiful Gospel songs, period, of any era or genre. I pray it will continue to glorify God.
@remfam91 Until you hear Vince Gill tell for whom he wrote the song, many people believe it was for his friend Elvis Presley. Did brother of Vince Gill actually sing, as mentioned in the song?
I have sang this song for alot of services.but it only cause I so understand the feeling, this month will make 9 year I lost my brothers in a house fire.but everytime I hear this song it give me hope in knowing the i will see them again. An that there in a much better place then what this world is turning to

This was played at my dads funeral service yesterday, beautiful song, my dad would be proud, he was a musician his self that played the mandolin and guitar.
Love this version. I'm new to the guitar but plan to learn this and sing it at our Senior Connect. It's one of the few laments I can sing without crying. Makes me want to learn the mandolin as well. Very moving. Thanks for the post.
