  • I love you Eric, that's why I'm telling you Buddy kicked ur ass here....Oh my, can't get enough of that vibrato...what a tone!!!....lot's of Buddy's classical licks, but lotsa experimenting as well, and so much soul flowing....Amazing, this is BLUES...

  • Hmmm Eric is old now, in his Steppin out Cream days he could own fucking anyone, buddy is a good guitar player and respectful so he deserves good credit, but Eric is a legend for always

  • Here i am, with a stupid smile crying on front of the screem. Awesome.

  • Assholes, don't forget this was John Mayall's night... EC would never take the show from John's men. 2 years after this EC play at the Cream reunion, and that was the best blues playing of the decade... And yes, EC is better than BW any day, just listen to his choice of notes... I have the hole DVD, and it is a good DVD, Mick Taylor is one a few songs as well

  • Супер!!!!!!!

  • Clapton looks uncomfortable and worried, despite I like Eric's playing but Buddy Whittington show more resources and many blues types of attack, Clapton shows a predictable guitar scales. Clapton was at his top in the Cream era.

  • @jassbo Not really. I can't see it. I think he's comfortable. I wouldn't compare Buddy or EC because they're totally different people bringing their soul out of their guitar. But I can understand from your point of view that he's not in his prime like in his Cream or Bluesbreaker days.

  • @jvthatsme Well, what can I say, despite Clapton is not at his peak you must recognize Whittington shows many and different approach developing blues scales. As I said, I´m a Clapton fan but I realize he didn´t get an evolution in his playing, remembering Cream era, his live gigs were incredible, listen "Politician" (Goobye) or "Deserted cities of the heart" , in all takes, his playing is cool. I know what I'm saying is controversial but that´s what I feel.

  • @jassbo Utter nonsense! I'd say the complete opposite! Whittington plays like yer average blues wannabe, Clapton turns the fuckin heat RIGHT UP, he's on a much higher, totally different level

  • @ropersnoop Last saturday I have a meeting with my friends in my place, by a way, they are blues musicians and one of them are a well known jazz & blues reviewer in Lima, Peru, All of us are in our 50's, so we lived the rise of Cream at the end of the 60's, enjoying their music and played them. When I put the controversial video, they were agree with me, the reviewer said Clapton is a trademark now, so for many Clapton fans is hard to recognize he fulfilled a cycle, and a new one's are coming.

  • @jassbo "Clapton shows a predictable guitar scales" this is the nonsense bit. Clapton's an easy target these days. Even when he turns up for his old friend's 70th birthday gig he gets a hard time. If you and your 'expert' blues friends cant hear a fantastic, off-the-cuff, spontaneous and brilliant guitar solo by him in this video then you all need your ears syringed!

  • @ropersnoop hardly whittingtons epic

  • @ropersnoop I can realize you are a true Clapton fan, so you are blinded by your bigotry that don't let you see from a musical point of view. OK, It's your right, cos' you just like music, and not a musician. End of my comments.

  • @jassbo I'd say by slaggin Clapton it is indeed YOU thats showing you are "blinded by bigotry". I see from a musical point of view ALWAYS. For the record, I'am a musician, both a fan of music and musicians.

  • @ropersnoop I saw your channel when you show two guys (barnet and....) sorry, I don´t remember but you play music that's is not my genre, it´s ok. with you, great. No more comments, i leave the chat in that level. I respect your taste in music. That's all.

  • 2:49 John mayer do this often (2:49 and 2:50)

  • @megalomegalo Eric Clapton is one of the biggest influences for blues other than SRV among others for Mayer.

  • Chris Barber???

  • Awesome job, Buddy!...I love blues so much!...And I'm proud to say I know someone as talented as you who plays them so well!

  • Excellent! Thanks!

  • I saw Buddy play on Saturday and got to talk to him about this solo

he told me he had been working hard to be ready for this gig but he was only going to sit back and let the others play but Eric asked him to play this solo and Buddy said Eric was so kind to him!

  • the dynamics in both of these solos are breathtaking...

a crescendo from the sweetest most delicate blues to wrenching your heart out with the most in your face blues mastery!

  • @metart93 The buddy whittington solo only......

  • Buddy Whittington is a god!!!!

  • Oh, that drummer hurts my feelings SO good! That is textbook Blues drumming, for anyone who cares.

  • I am speechless. Good Blues does that.

  • you totally cut out the trumpet solo.

  • @mrbluze trombone*

  • It's a rare occasion to see two of the best on stage at the same time. By the way, just how old is John Mayall?

  • @EvolvDiet He's 77 now I think

  • These guys are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!!

Thank you so much for posting this gem.

  • I have got to play with buddy more times than i should have....and i have never seen him so more into a solo than this....Like he said to me after the first time i played with him "Old Age And Treachery will always Over Come Youth and Skill"

  • For some reason EC's volume is a LOT lower at the beginning of his solo - could be his choice; could be the sound man. Could be a lotta things. For one thing EC is nearly totally deaf from all the years of LOUD music. His guitar is great on almost any given night and has been since 2000 - at least he got rid of the Lace Sensors! At 3:52 either he turns it up or the sound amn does. I wish he'd go back to an SG or a ES-335 for some of these gigs. The Slowhand 'Blackie' was his best Strat era!

  • @DaManFromPlaid all in the volume knob on the guitar

  • C'mon folks, this 'owning' BS is just that, it's all BS! EC & Buddy (whom I know!) will both tell you that! The thing is Buddy 'owns' his solo & he 'owns' his guitar on his solo. EC is very impressed! He should be: Buddy is playing back about 50% of EC's career to him. EC comes in & is slow to "own" his solo, noodling about at a low volume. He's got nothing to prove! The lick at 3:15-3:30 is all throw away. Then at 4:30 starts owning it. EC's not about the pissing contest!

  • Great solo Buddy was on !!! I must say however that is one Butt Ugly guitar EC is playing . Bring back Blackie . Great stuff... what a show.

  • Buddy Whittington, easily one the most underrrated blues guitar players around right now

  • I've known Buddy for over 20 years and I consider him a friend. He has always been amazing to me. If you knew Buddy like I do, you'd know that it doesn't matter how good he is playing guitar. He's one of the nicest and best people I've ever known. He deserved the opportunity to play with such great talent as John, Mick and Eric for many years. He finally got what he genuinely deserved and it has brought pure joy to me! Buddy, thanks for all the great music at Jubilation with the Sidemen!

  • I think Buddy won this throwdown handily; one thing's for sure, he definitely has better tone than Clapton in this song.

  • 0:25 HOW DO I DO THAT!!!!!

  • Dead even in my book. Freakin excellent playing on both parts!

  • Stop bickering about the music and just sit and enjoy it...Buddy would be the first to tell you that no one can own EC, buddy is too humble of a person, with that said i'm going to go play with buddy tonight and get owned

  • @BluesMike23 So right you are! Buddy is humble and he would be the first to tell you that no one can own EC.

  • No dought who owns this one. Watch Eric look over at Buddy and you can tell he's thinking how am I going to follow this Texas boy.

  • It`s funny how Clapton owns the other guitar player by just playing a couple notes...

  • haha sorry my friend, I'd have to disagree with you on that... Buddy Whittington holds his own just fine on this video! With all respect to the great E.C., listen again with eyes closed and tell me who owned this! cheers

  • Buddy is great but he is no EC. The lick at 3:15 proves that and so does the cheers from the audience.

  • E.C.'s popular, that's true... can play real fast too

  • EC is popular because he earned with his 50+ years career. Buddy is a nobody when compared to him. EC is not just a guitar player. He is musical legend and he has nothing to prove anymore.

  • 50+ years? Eric's 64 now, joined Yardbirds in 1963... seriously, my friend, I do not deny Eric's greatness! but he does not "own" here. ENUF!
