a cobalt brand pocket knife with a non-serated edge,approximately 5 inches.

@dcom94, an assault rifle would be better than a shotgun in almost any situation. Shotgun shells are heavy and have limited range, while a 7.62x39 round is better suited for middle to close range and are lighter than shells. I prefer the AK-47; sturdy, powerfull, and perfect for zombie apocalypse ranges (10-100 yards).

Well, if the best kill for a zombie is the destruction of the brain, ruger makes a small rifle, in .22 lr. You can buy 100 rd. magazines for them, and loaded, the magzines weight about 2lbs. if that. when shot in the head with a .22, the bullet will ricochet around in the skull turning the brain to swiss. cheese. 100 rds without a reload. Highly controllable highly accurate out to 100 yds. Could easily carry several hundred rds.

Sure, he gets some of the biology and perhaps details of weapons wrong and writes some contradictory things, but overall The Zombie Survival Guide does provide a great deal of information that would definitely aid you and be very useful. Remember, it is a survival guide, not exactly a biology textbook.
