This Dokken album is one of my favorite of the late 80s early 90s that i rediscovered recently along with the Vai/whitesnake and Vai/Roth eat em and smile ;-)
in interviews john and billy express how much the liked working together and that they both influenced eachother. both are great, or were. billy hasn't done much after this. he retired fairly quick. it's very typical for john sticking with one style for while. he has done it all and is still on. e. g. last look at eden was pretty nice stuff.
It wasn't luck that he's playing lead, Billy co-wrote the song with Don, not John(whos only credited with writing 3 from this album) . He's a solid guitarist, but he's never impressed me much. Billy's stuff with Watchtower was pretty good. What he's doing now says nothing about how good he was. Vito Bratta disappeared too.
@idpmofo well is clear we have a difference of opinion but in my case i will support John as always and for me he is the best. he has attitude, talent, feeling and only Ronny le tekro can compare with him.
@europenpuma @ 3:40 why would we wanna see the rhythm guitar during solo? The songs White wrote on this album were better than the ones Norum wrote, imo
@idpmofo well that depends... i'm not saying that Billy is not or wasn't a good guitar player and good composer but where is Billy now??? and where is John RIGHT NOW?? John has been with the best, Deep Purple, Dokken, Goran Edman and ... Billy White i think is retired now isn't?? however in this record Billy played the lead guitar just by luck. sorry men but don't pretend to correct me when i say that John is one of the best.

@europenpuma you don't become a lead guitar player by luck.
John can play very well, but Billy played with a lot more taste, and I don't think the record would've been as good had Norum been doing the leads
