Most insurance plans cover outpatient mental health services. If you don't have insurance, try contacting your state or county psychological association for help finding a psychologist who has a sliding scale or will provide treatment pro-bono.
Many cities have lower fee options to see psychologists or trainees, and many practitioners also offer some sliding scale and lower fee slots. My recommendation is that if you want to work with a psychologist, call their office and ask. For example, I offer lower fee appointments during the day, and if I can't accommodate someone's fee request, I'll help that person find a skilled clinician who can.
I feel it is such a shame that, for the most part, the people most in need of help are the least able to afford it. The mental health field can be a frustrating, revolving door of continued need and limited coverage for individuals. I wish everyone had access to the help they need for as long as they needed it.
If psychologists would lower their fees, perhaps more people could afford to get the therapy they need. Charging $150.00 + an hour is out of reach for most people who need to see a therapist once a week.
We are so pleased to see such a positive response to our video and we hope this helps educate people about what psychologists do and encourages those in need to reach out.

Very simply and well done. We're social creatures, after all, and seeking help from one another is part of the cure.
