No offense to the dude in this video, but you'd think Jackson would have, well err, a GOOD guitar player for their product manager. The tacky tats and beard only get you so far, ya know.
Can anyone please help me. I have a Jackson DK2M which I think is awesome but it seems impossible to setup for drop tuning. I want to use drop C# drop B and drop D tuning, is it possible or am I asking too much. I did try drop B and it fucked the floating trem, just wasn't enough tension. Even when I try to tune down everything to E flat tuning, it just fucks the trem, not enough tension to hold it. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong, do I just need thicker gauge strings, is it that simple?
@Hertsman50 Yes. For D would be 10's, So for B you would need 12's, I believe. You can also add one more spring to the back of the floyd, so you can get lower with thinner strings. Thicker strings sound more massive and fat.. I prefer thinner strings for that bell like sound when picking on a upstroke..
@klummster88 i thought so, for a while there, it wasn't on musician's friend, music 123, guitar center, or sam ash. I recall trying to find a second one a few months ago because it's pretty hard to find a quality maple fretboard jackson that cheap.
@TStouffer Tell me about it, I live in the arse end of England so it's impossible to get good guitars around here...my local shop actually wanted to charge me half the price of the guitar just to order it in. Decided to try my friend's instead haha.
@tastyciggarette They are both great guitars. Personally i think that jackson have way better riffing tone but the ibanez has an extremely nice solo tone. Both guitars are pure win though. Never played the model you say but prestige RG ibanez are similar and i've played them. Both the jackson and ibanez are high quality and very playable instuments. I would go for the jackson
I have this. Its fucking great. The bridge pickup screams and growls and sends me back to the lead 80s solos, and the bridge completely changes the sound to something more chunky and softer.
the volume knob works great too, completely smooth with no scratching, dailing the volume back gives you even more control over gain/tone. my favorite guitar so far.
My DK2M has Seymour Duncan JB TB4 humbucker (bridge) and a Seymour Duncan Jazz SH2N humbucker (neck) but it looks like this guy has a Duncan JB59 in his DK2M. I thought the DK2M came with standard pickups but I'm obviously wrong. My guitar does sound very good, I'm not sure if the JB59 is a better pickup than the JB TB4 ? The pickup in this demo doesn't sound as chunky as the JB TB4 .
Hey i might be getting a new jackson pretty soon and idk which one to get, ive heard that the floyd rose tremolo system makes it hard to change tunes and i play alot of standard, drop d and drop c. idk if thats true or not, or should i get one without the floyd rose?
Floyd rose tremolos are a pain if you are using various keys. Even changing string gauge requires adjustments to spring tension on the bridge to keep it at its best. If I was you I would get a fixed bridge guitar. (or even better one of each. )
well the flyods are hard too change. I'd probably go with the js kelly (if you're looking for something that's cheap and good) it doesn't have a flyod rose and it stays in tune very well. if you have a lot of money I'd probably go for a couple js dinkys with flyod's then you could have one for D C and standerd. but that's just on the cheap. most jacksons have just flyod's
i dont really play metal a lot but i use trem a lot. and im really fond of the pickups here. would this guitar be a good choice even tho i dont play metal??
The DK2, had three pickups (two single coils in the neck and middle, and one humbucker in the bridge) and has a rosewood fingerboard. The DK2M you see has two humbuckers and a maple neck. The DK2S has a sustainiac driver in the neck for long sustain and rosewood fretboard. hope this helps :)
Seems like you like to play many styles (blues to megadeth), so its good that you're thinking of jackson. The DK2S probably has the most, just because of the Sustainiac. But if you get the DK2M, it's not like u will have a significant Dissadvantage. And with the DK2T doesn't have a Floyd, so thats a major setback, but u could tune it easier (if u only have one guitar, and you need to switch tunings alot, get the DK2T)
dk2 is the most versatile, i have it and i play from Dream Theater and Malmsteen to a beautiful Dire Straits sound or Eric Johnson's Manhattan, very nice sounding guitar
i have this guitar. it rules i advocate 100% it stays in tune so well, omfg i have never played another guitar that stayed in tune better!!!! i got a 2006 model on bridge it has a JB TB4 SD HB and on neck it has a Jazz SH2N SD HB they rule. it is a fun and inexpensive guitar that is built like a truck. and floyd rose is hecka easy to deal with just get a set of fing allen wrenches pansies cant handle the heat...play an ibanez more jacksons for the real playas
he i was wondering if anyone can help me - ive had this guitar for a while now and ive started to get really bad ringing from the strings, i changed the strings but its still happening, how can i fix this? its REALLY annoying.
get yourself a set up. check string height, action, neck curve, get your neck cleaned and eventually your frets set up. should do the trick. I don't know what store you bought yours, but when I bought my Ibanez prestige S the shop offered me a free set up and maintenance. You should check on that.
this particular model has a licenced floyd rose...i own the same thing in white, and let me tell you it lasts better than any other licened trem out there...because Jackson was one of the original flagship companies to have access to the Floyd Rose patents....the only thing better than this is the real thing...which you'll have to eventually get because the brass wears out slowly
That's why you use a different guitar if you wanna switch tunings all the time. I don't know why people think floyds are so hard to deal with, unless they're completely braindead.
Except that floyd guitar all sound dull as shit. If you don't believe me, block off the trem and try to tell me it's not 4 times the guitar it was before. The cheap-ass Jackson lo-pro floyd copy in this is not the best either, which only makes things worse. The Schaller and Gotoh floyds are the only usable floating trems I've found so far.
Can't wait to get my Jackson JS32R Dinky Reverse with Floyd Rose.
