You have to remember that the whole point of Slash's live solo spots is to impress kids (mostly guitarists) who like to see their idol prove how much of a guitar god he is, and it obviously works for some. What this isn't is an artistic statement. This is not genius. This is showboating and, like it or not, the likes of Vai are better at it. That said, Slash isn't one of the best guitarists around (IMHO) because of his showboating...

Actually Slash is considered in the guitar world to be one of the Melodic Guitarist, if you listen to all GNR songs. All his solos are melodic, like the guitar is singing.

His solos are not just fast picking, he loves to bend the string. You can memorize his "guitar leads" because they are full of melody.

This video didn't continue, it goes straight to the Godfather Theme (Full of Melody).

put it this way...you know how bad Sweet Child of mine would have SUCKED if it was "Kirk Hamett" who did the solo over it? Slash is the only guitarist out there in myopinion who could have complemented that type of music. Which came along at that time and brought metal to its knees. ALl Kurt Cobain had to do was kick there knees out from under them as they were already half way down before "Nirvana" ever showed up

continually people miss the point. Slash can rip but maybe not as fast or as clean as some Like Steve Vai/Van Halen/Diamond Darrel. Yet the thing that has set him apart from those types of guitarists is that he has sass. The notes he hits. When he hits him and his vibrato it set him apart in a much vaster way then other guitarist who have tried to distinguish themselves. iN a sea of metal soloing drones he came along and said this is me. He was much more raw and stripped down
