@DirtyFaceCapon3: This is because these women have been fed lies by their mothers and grandmothers about men. And they fall for the Jody, Sweet Pea, and Rodney types. And when they lose their luster and attractiveness they become bitter and wonder why they can't find a decent man or get the decent men that they dissed in high school, college, and throughout their 20s don't want them.
This statement definitely carries some validity. But let's keep in mind that this is one segment because not all sisters would be down with these types. Also you got some simple minded ass white women that date these Jody types too. What I did like in this movie is how John Singleton had Jody grow up and move out and marry Yvette.
@MisterB2eternity I agree with you.I wouldn't say it's all black women, but I believe the majority of them(especially during their peak years of physical attractiveness 16-25) prefer the Jody type.Like i said, they carry around a anger that women mistake as the ultimate expression of masculinity. They figure all that "burning fire" of anger & aggressiveness will translate over into the sexual spectrum. He's the guy who has been marketed to them as the cool, hip, mandigo sex god
He made the basic fight mistake u never start a fight with a push u start it with a psyche out make him see your fist while hes concentrating on ur fist u kick him in the balls and then hes all urs
This was a written and directed movie by John Singleton. Jody is a reflection of the matriarchal society within a society (the Black community). Whenever a young male is raised by women only with no positive male figures they usually will take on those emotional reactions that women in general responds to as in the case of Jody.
I'm Latino and we have to deal with these same kind of lazy ass punks in our communities as well. We need to educate our communities, the white, rich owners of this society just like to watch us eat each-other.
melvin was pushing jodys buttons, blowing him kisses i mean come on. melvin is your basic bully. another great example was when he was naked in the kitchen drinking up all the koolaid and then burping in jodys face? and jodys mom is just as crazy she deserves melvins ass whooping. a damn family of psycho.
cmon man. with that soft shit. 20 yrs. old is 2 yrs. of being a man already.
Major2219 , that's the mental of too many brothas still at home with their mommas. next thing you know, they're in their 30s crying that same tune. if jody ran up like a man, he can get knock the fuck out like a man. I tried it with my pops & got knocked on my ass too. before I got up, that lesson was thoroughly learned.
True! but you have to remember what happen, Melvin planted some weed & Jody's mother taught Jody did it & she came down on him hard but than when she founded out Melvin did it she act as though nothing happen.
That was wrong of her than, Melvin wasn't making the situation better by saying "I'm laughing at your spoil *ass" I always look at why somebody did what they did.
yeah I'm with ya on that point. but black women sometimes go that extra mile to hold on to their man. plus like I said,Jody should of been out of the house because he was a man. 2 men in 1 house is way too many swinging dicks under 1 roof. your bound to bump heads.
Yeah Melvin aka Ving Rhames played this role very well. Its like I know this was suppose to be a drama movie but there where so many funny scenes in this movie!!
this is one of the most hood movies ever made and ving rhames is awesome in this role

@zjokkerjesse so Jody getting in his face didn't add to the situation. Its was just Melvin's fault? I beg to differ.

Right! Melvin didn't have to hit him like that. his character in the movie was only 20years old, that's some what still a boy not a man.
Great movie though!!
