Dear peterkey, your moog preset sounds awesome. could you please give me some advice on how the settings you use for this synth? glide, cut off, tuning, etc.
I'm using Arturia mini moog 2 plug in. so i have very similar sounds
@Utubesuxmycock Hard to remember, no presets here. I think the 3 oscs were at 16' 16' & 8', all saw waves probably, some overload from patching the headphone Out in the Ext In., but the swirling was the Moog Phaser.
@peterkeys88 thanks peterkeys. i try to come as close as possible. check out my composition electro vagary for an example. luckily they released a soundset for arturia that has some daft punk synth on it
@kinglynx i found a juno-60 in a closet at my school, and just dove into it. Lots of trial and error, lots of knob twiddling, learning the ins and outs of subtractive synthesis by ear. Theres also lots of good instructions online of the basics, but hands on with a knobby old school synth is the best way IMO.
@peterkeys88 ohh ok, so like just playing with it really, practical experience? ... see i use fruity loops and reason and i use the synths on that, and i sorta learn a bit what each knob and slider does by listening.. same sorta thing? great job anyway :D
I found a Yamaha CS01, a beat up Roland Juno-106, a Casio SK-1, and tons of portatones at my high school. Also found a minty Univox Univibe!!! Bought it all with lots of help from my principal for a few bucks and never looked back. I guess we're sitting on goldmines.
Found them in 2005, bought them in 2008 because I graduated that year and I knew I needed to get them out of there. Took a while to work up the nerve to ask the principal and write it out, but I did in the end.
@pcuimac sure. I transposed it in the key of F, since the range of the Minimoog is widest there. F-Ab-F (2 octaves up)-C (descending) - Ab - Eb (below middle F) - Bb (down again) - Eb (up again) - F (middle octave) - Ab (going up) - C. Thats the main riff. Kinda hard to dictate via text.
this is the best version ive heard by a fan, daft punk most probably used a moog or sum sort of analogue synth n u captured the character of the sound perfectly. well done :)
@ghostom998 As far as I know, Daft Punk use Moogs too - four rack Minimoog Voyagers. But I'm only guessing. Anyway, Moog rules! BTW there's already a video of a guy doing this on a Minimoog Voyager - honestly he's not as good as this.
@microkorger Yes, although as you can tell, the original is multi-tracked and full of various ear candy that cant be done by hand. I was driving home from xmas hearing the soundtrack and i just had to learn the riff for fun. Its such an exciting tune. Glad people enjoy this.

@peterkeys88 Why do I hear of so many Americans randomly finding analog synths in their schools?!!!
bjcsupertortoise 6 months ago
@bjcsupertortoise hah! tragic, i know. I figure it's cuz the electro scene didn't jump off in the US as early as it did in the UK?
peterkeys88 6 months ago
@peterkeys88 Ah yes, probably something like that... but why did you have synths in schools in the first place?! :D

That is amazing. Some of those things I haven't even heard of. Was this recently, or perhaps a decade or so ago?

Very very cool, that moogerfooger phaser definatly gives that sound some nice character. Any plans on a programming and note by note tutorial? :)

@Alterstateresearcher well, ive never tried that, but it could be fun to go through the steps. Thanks for the idea Alterstate

Did you learn it by ear? I'm guessing so, because I guess there are no notes for stuff like that. Cool!
