  • He walks in darkness yet still he still has sight through hearing. The real question remains what would happen if you gave up all of your senses of perception. Would you gain a new sense of a different world??

  • @Knightus100 I guess much of what we are is our perception. Change your perception and you change your mind.

  • @yinyangnature

i want to hear my heart beat more often, people have different heart beats to mine !

the chinese religion is true !

chinese shen, confusius or other chinese religion ?

  • very good...

  • @AmericanPowerBase i fell really bad for you, first because you are arrogant. second because you couldnt be more wrong. When speaking to a mexican its best to speak spanish.... when speaking to losers its best to speak loser. im glad you feel that way though because without people like you who lack understanding, there wouldnt be people like me who are filled with it. u wanna talk about pysch journals find out what they say about being an arrogant assholes.

  • how can i watch this series, this is awesome!

  • @jamesarongray with the magic fiber optic cable that puts videos straight onto your storage media of choice!

  • "how is it that you do not?" Cause my hearing isn't that good!

  • Smart Ass!!

  • I always loved to watch this series when it was broadcasted on the Dutch television about 12 years ago. There's a lot of widsom in it. Thanks for sharing!

  • "Fear is the only darkness."

  • this was chuck norris in his younger DAYS

  • @8317rob hahah no its not

  • When this show first aired, it was only on once a month (eventually, it became weekly). In those days, there were no VCR's, so you really had to pay attention. This show opened me up to Eastern thought and philosophy.

  • This show helped me grow a third ear.

  • awesomeness!

  • In meditation I can hear my own heart beat, feel my own blood flowing and sense energy that pervades my body both luxuriously and benignly. A seed was planted from this tv show years ago...that now, is deepening for the real fight which is not a revolution but rather, EVOLUTION

  • @KharamiSunato was this after you realised you were actually...a gay man?

  • @yulaw3 I love your comment because it is so well worded. It would be cool if you spoke of yourself sense you obviously dont like mystics nor could handle my 20 years of kung fu...sometimes fighting is a little gay. In that case I could fuck you till you called me master. however it would not be sexual unless you eating asphalt is a turn on. Just kidding. As a former monk I abstain from harming the harmful. you may pass.

  • @KharamiSunato sorry but im getting married, & i doubt u could beat me up.maybe type faster.

i already know ur a fag haha

  • @KharamiSunato hi i've been very interesting in chi and heart listening meditation, can you share me your method of meditation, i'll be really really useful to me. Sawadsdee krub!

  • Strike me with a the broom, and don't be a bitch about it.

  • this has also been sampled here watch?v=28XlJSKow9c

  • Every story has a crux, a shifting point. This is That. Good on you to point out this one. I loved this series as a child; I still love it

  • even though he lost his sight, he had superior hearing. dont fear losing, because you gain elsewhere. thats the messege i got.

  • @yourmajezty no, he just listens

  • "How is it that you see these things . . . how is it that you do not?"

^I had that on a ninja-tune T-shirt ages ago. Now I know where that fantastic phrase came from.

  • Is this serie available on DVD or VHS? if not, is it downloadable somewhere?

  • @Tengu909 ...please try amazon. The entire series (all seasons) can be purchased from that site.

  • I remember this scene as a kid. Too bad I did not understand what it meant.

  • Grasshopper!!

  • What you do not see are these cosmetic lenses....Grasshoppah!

  • he's cute lol

  • @misterfluffypuff ...David over Bruce was always a bit of a shadow over the show. David is blameless. The fault lies with the company suits who felt an American audience wouldn't accept a Asian leading actor. It was the 1970's. And I disagree with Yinyangnature about Bruce being a martial artist only. Bruce was both. It was his cultural heritage that worked against him. And company suits have made errors in judgment at various times. NBC suits thought Star Trek had limited potential.

  • @geekeing ...not sure if I agree: the show's creator wanted Carradine and I have to agree - and here's why: Not due to audience not accepting a lead Asian actor - it was more like - were there any good Asian leads for the role at the time? Bruce Lee, yes, was possible - but think about him. He had a persona of "anger" and "fury" about him - that worked great for action movies... but not for the quiet nature of Caine... and Carradine was perfect for that.

  • @anonyms404 ....you do offer excellent points, quite valid. But Bruce was an actor and it is a pity he was not acknowledged as such. There were some scenes in his HK movies that he displayed a outward calm as well as anger and fury. And perhaps I have a biased opinion being Chinese myself, I know the sting of racial prejudice that was expressed back in the 1970s. And I do agree with you about Carradine, he did express a quite calm, even in Kill Bill, he had a calm persona, sinister but calm.

  • @geekeing - Thank you - and I do agree with you (but didn't have room to write) that it would have be interesting to see how Lee would have handled the role... perhaps that perception I mentioned would have been dispelled as he would have shown an entirely different range of ability. Secondly, I certainly didn't mean to say that no prejudice existed... far from it and i won't even try and put myself in your shoes - was just pointing out that in this case the reasons may have been otherwise.

  • @anonyms404 ...you're welcome. Many thanks to you also. A pleasure to have exchanged viewpoints with you. I will incorporate what you suggest. I wish you success in all you undertake.

  • @geekeing agreed - and same to you ...I have to tell you, it's amazing how much one can get into crazy comment-flame/fights on youtube ...but after coming to these wonderful Tao-highlights ... it's almost taken all those silly fights out of me. These 30-dd videos are enough to really get one's priorities and mind straight.

  • @anonyms404 ...agreed.

  • @geekeing - after posting this comment on another Kung Fu video - I realize I should ask it to you direct: Is this show something that is actually shown in China - and either way, do Chinese Americans (or Chinese in general) consider it good - and do they take it seriously? I ask this because, well it would be cool if so! But aside from that, it's always hard to know how a culture views stories about itself - particularly when produced by those outside the culture.

  • @anonyms404 Actually, many followers of the Tao have been discriminated against in the past. But I can't really say if, in modern times, the Chinese culture holds the Taoist philosophy to be true. Taoism (the philosophy, not the religion) is more of an individual thing, so certain people follow it, others don't. But a statistic can't really be composed on the subject either, so I'm afraid you'll just have to be satisfied with not knowing.

  • @Mystrymeat - thanks ... yup, actually since much is outlawed in China (re: different forms of religion, confucianism etc.etc.) I imagine this has been also ... and even commenting on it can get you in trouble (heck, people can't even watch youtube in China can they?)

  • @anonyms404 Glad to help. But thanks to people like me, they can't use it in certain countries of the middle east anymore. My Muhammed show (which I regret making but refuse to take down) played a major role in Afghanistan banning youtube. I like to show tolerance for other religions, yet at the same time, their imperialistic ways make me feel as though something must be done about them. It's awfully hard to show tolerance towards intolerance I suppose.

  • @anonyms404 ...Happy Holidays. I don't have any relatives in mainland China, but my wife is from Hong Kong and she did view the show there sometimes. She said it was OK but it was not a major hit. Most HK citizens watched it because there were many Asians in a American production but not overly impressed with Carradine, but accepted the concept as it was a American show. Also, it was dubbed into Cantonese so how much of the dialog was changed for local taste...well, can't say.

  • @geekeing - Season's Greetings to you also! That's interesting (re: how they feel about the show)... I get why producers make a show to fit the audience perception - but if it were up to me, I would first tailor it around things that only someone from that culture would recognize (certain symbols, decor, customs etc.) ...and then make changes to fit an audiences tastes. The audience would accept minor foreign elements not understood, and enjoy the story - and the culture would respect it too.

  • "Kung Fu", what a great show. I loved every episode. The relationship between Master Po and Caine (Grasshopper) pre-dates Mister Miyagi and Daniel San by years

  • its also in audio addicts swindle vol 3 annd its the opening to 16 bits milkypie mix

  • Ah, this video. No matter how many times I watch these videos, it gets me every single time.

  • so so so beautiful.

  • It's great to see this again. I watched it faithfully every week. Thanks for sharing!

  • Old man.

  • THE KID GOT OWNED

  • I love this eastern mysticism bullshit! :)

  • Wow...thats deep.

  • This has been sampled in a somewhat recent dubstep track:

16 Bit - Tale of the exploding fist

Quite awesome if you're into dubstep. Beside that, i really like the message this clip sends out. Very wise words. :)

  • @k0f0d Mazing. Thank you so much for letting us know.

  • @99Sorc u mad?

  • @k0f0d not actually. more sad that music i once loved has gone to shit now

  • do not fear darkness - fear is the only darkness.

  • I own the entire series on DVD (the new one, too). My all-time favorite. show. I'm sure there will never be anything on television to paralell Kung Fu.

  • Respect people......that is what is missing today! great series.

  • alll riiiggght. Anyone explain all this to me please ? Thx

  • There is nothing to fear except fear itself.

  • Also, how is it that a blind old man can out fight and have better sensory awareness than a young boy? Master Po must have access to some very special wisdom to achieve these feats, dont you think?

  • @yinyangnature A martial artist must understand that vision takes longer to process than sound or touch, therefore, Master Po could be said to have had a head start.

But the combinations intertwine into the ten thousand...

  • @yinyangnature

"Also, how is it that a blind old man can out fight and have better sensory awareness than a young boy? Master Po must have access to some very special wisdom to achieve these feats, dont you think? 2 months ago"

    or just movie effects :)

  • @AIMANALI It's very simple...grasshopper. Think Spock in the old west. Or better yet, watch a few episodes of one of the best shows ever made at stagevu(.)com.

  • they need to put this show back on, very educational

  • @davewoodring Yes! it would be good for us americans to get some zen wisdom in our lives

  • David Caradine was chosen over Bruce Lee simply because the part required an actor not a martial artist. I know most people think of Kung Fu as martial arts, but it really was about the philosophy of the Shaolin. Therefore the dialogue was extremely critical.

David Caradine did have a great deal of respect for Bruce Lee and marked his passing with a slight change in his on screen wardrobe.

  • No kidding? What did he change, do you know?

  • I need to re-watch the Kung Fu DVD extras again, but I believe Caradine changed his shirt and/or hat to mark Bruce Lee's passing.

  • That's interesting; I always wondered about the costumes on that show. They kept him in the same clothes until an episode where his shirt was literally ripped off; and then he borrowed one that he wore until the middle of last season. And the whole hat thing was really complicated too. He got shot, lost the hat, had his head bandaged and they tried to morph that into a sort of bandanna, which didn't work, and on and on. They had a hard time with stuff like that throughout the show.

  • his shirt.

  • these flahbacks... always the best part of the series. its just fantastic.

  • @georgemargaris: When the show was first on, I never liked the flashbacks. Now that I am older and understand the Tao I love them!

  • love it!

  • Thanks for the share flybreath - So True. It is not our Darkness that frightens us - It is our Light because it is so Powerful. We just need to learn to Tap into it.

  • Bravisimo!

  • Absolutely the best tv show of ALL TIME!

    RIP Grasshopper.

  • I loved this, thanks for posting!

  • Parler simple est le plus pur des langages !

  • Waah! I've got chills all over my body...

  • I love this scene!!

  • One of my favorite scenes

  • "how is it that you do not?"

    simply fantastic

  • @demochila Yes..that one line explains millions, no billions of people, wars, and near-sighted decisions that hurt all humanity. We should make our leaders submit to a philosophy question session before they can be elected. Let's see who hears the Grasshopper and who does NOT.

  • yes, RIP

  • David Carradine RIP

  • 'do you hear the grasshopper by your feet' - brought a tear to my eye.

  • I love the wisdom of the elders, that is what made the show great.

  • Cool show.

    Grasshopper. lol

  • yeah like the host of this video huh? think his qualified? His in it to break people's nose and can't be motivated by anything but the thought of physical violence...

Its like a student wanting to become a surgeon because he likes to cut people open, like an bully wanting to become a cop so he beatdown people

  • non-Asians should not be taught the arts, because they bring it to the dark side hurting the weak and innocent rather than protecting them. Thanks to "MMA", people only understand the physical concept of the arts not the spirit or the philosophy of it. I agree with the old masters that the arts should ONLY be taught to Asians!

  • and there are no asia mma fighters?

  • they actually follow the ethics code of the arts. u simply don't have the mentaility or the spirit of it to fully appreciate it. The arts is about these 3 things the mind, spirit (chi) and the physical. u know how many dangerous situations I have won without even fighting? I do one simple kata form and they tremble in fear!

  • my life since has been dedicated to finding my teacher, which i did...luckily, and i hope others have been so fortunate... thank you David Carradine for your gentle, earnest way of bringing wisdom to others through your talent.... may you walk the path of peace

  • used to stay up til 2am every night to watch every episode and my insomnia stays with me to today, so much to think on, and imagine, so much wisdom for the heart. we had no video VCR then, and had to absorb the wisdom on first hearing..

  • yinyangnature,

Really appreciate these uploads, graduated HS in the late 60's these shows were... are part of me, watched all of them many times. They've been a positive influence all these years.

    thanks again!

    HW

  • Thank you, but I think the real credit should go to those who wrote, acted and produced this remarkable TV series.

I just put these videos on Youtube as a way of introducing the Taoist philosophy. I hope these clips inspire everyone who sees them to start their own personal journey on the Path of Compassion, Moderation and Humility.

Please check out my webpage for more information on Taoism.

  • Rest In Peace..Don't trade too many stories with Michael Hutchence...Great actor..Great show...Thanks for the upload

  • well played portadelaide

  • Thank you David, you will be remembered always old friend...

  • When my brother and I were little and we watched Kung Fu, one could hear a pin drop. We were captivated.

We lost our father to suicide, my heart goes out to David's family and friends.

    Peace be with--David [Grasshopper]

  • I haven't revisited Kung Fu in decades and I am just astounded by the depth of it. The 70s may have given us polyester suits and disco, but there was still a place for this quiet, spiritually and morally reflective stuff on tv. Today we are assaulted by flailing images and loud bombast, often barked at by talking heads as to what we should think. Kung Fu, by contrast, gave us ideas and lessons to think upon and the quietude and space in which to think upon them.

  • @psychicwhoosh - indeed ...and it's amazing that Keye Luke ("Master Po" - the old man) was never given the exalted status of portraying, in my opinion, one of the greatest characters on television. TV has given us mostly canned characters - every so often a great one comes along (I'm no Trekkie - but Spock was one of those) ...and Master Po was one of the greatest of all time - but sadly, no one remembers or even acknowledges him. These videos help though.

  • Very Sad.. Be with God- "GrassHopper"!

  • OMG!! just hear the bad new!!! am shock am a big fan ! i remember i was 10 yrs old when i saw kung fu . R.I.P DAVID

    we will miss you!!

  • I am so sad David Carradine is gone. Whatever his struggles, and I know they were many, he brought many of us who were young and impressionable a better way to see the world than the one mass culture feeds young people today, one that is still valid and worthwhile and holds out the possibility of peace, both within ourselves and among ourselves. Rest in peace, my friend.

  • RIP David

    May your journey continue...

  • RIP David you will be sadly missed, you and bruce lee who both contributed to the rise of the martial arts were taken too early!

  • Rest in peace David Carradine. I don't know why you took your own life, i hope peace is found with you somewhere. I will always love you.

  • Just seen the news about David Carradine.... what a sadness to know that he is gone in such a manner.

Thank you Bobba for posting all these videos..testament to a great great actor.

    All these things will pass.

  • As I was going to sleep last night I kept hearing my own heartbeat... I had headphones on which apparently amplified the sound ... but so strange as I have never had that happen before. It was a reassuring sound.

  • wow!! memories of a time when these treasures were a pivotal part of my life. Now, decades later their wisdom still reigns supreme. Thank you!!!

  • Thanks for all of your effort to upload these videos, they are of great Importance to many people, who like me in the late 1960's was in dire need of some form of enlightenment, mental & physical discipline, and of course self defence. I grew up & became a Man up with Kwai Chang Caine, entered into the Shaolin ways of thinking & doing, and the Kung Fu etc, there is a lot of Grasshopper in me, as well as other Masters, now I am my own Master, but I never forget who got me started in 1970. Cheers

  • Thank you for your very dedicated support my friend. I too believe the temple scenes of this TV series are timeless and will stay in the psyche of everyone who ever saw the series for a life time. I dont think it is too much of a stretch to say these teachings are on a par with those of the great Taoist sage Chaung Tzu, from 2000 years earlier.

  • jerry thorpe who directed this show is my uncle!

  • He is an amazing director and certainly was ahead of this time.

  • ya hes great

  • me 4

  • wack the Keeister'..loved him as charlie chan's son in the old Cahrlie Chan mysteries from the 40s.or so...

    r.i.p. Keye...we love you.

  • Fear is the only darkness...

  • I liked the part at the end where he says Young Man,How is it that you do not?:)

  • me 2

  • me 3

  • great'''

  • I saw the squirels in the tree and the ground minding their day. They came to me because I respected them and gave them food. They enjoyed the food and we were at peace together. Respect is common with intelligent life and commanded by wisdom in my opinion.

  • my uncle directed this show :)

  • all I remember from this is that Bobby Lee from Mad TV did a spoof of a blind kung fu master

  • Master po suffered from a kind of Cataract vision problem. I think He could see but very very little.

  • Thanks

  • Thank you for posting this.

  • It is incredible to see the actor Keye Luke play Master Po in the 1970s, who used to play the "No. 1 Son", Lee Chan in the Charlie Chan television series in the 1930s!

  • I remember him with some small roles on Dragnet and MASH, but he will always be Master Po.

You would be hard pressed to see anything sadder on the TV screen than when he was killed.

  • a spoiler alert would be appreciated next time. thankyou

  • I understand -- but the fate of Master PO is common knowledge and is revealed in the very FIRST episode of Kung Fu

  • i'm 19 and have never seen the series so it is not common knowledge to me or those my age.

  • fear is the only darkness. no biggie. so you found out how master PO dies. there is alot more to the story than that.

  • Great great memories, and what an influence on my life it had...

  • Great show, don't make them like this anymore, the wisdom was profound & moving, even now stops me in my tracks, hopefully never too late to change! Peace...

  • If we don't all change soon, I fear the earth is in deadly peril. My greatest hope is that these Asian philosophies of peace will become common place in the next decade or two.

I think I sense a trend as people turn their backs on the religions that are based on force and controlling others; and look to the ways of Nature. The path of non-contention and harmony.

  • Obrigado (thank you). Esta série nos mostra como as atuais são de uma probreza sem fim. Série ineaquecível e atualíssima.

  • One of the greatest shows ever

  • The wisdom of the masters was always the best part of the shows.

  • thanks for do this, is one of the most greatest series of history, I would have been better with Bruce Lee

  • When I studied Lau Gar my teacher looked like Master Po.

  • God, how I loved (and love) this show. Every Thursday night I would go with my mom, dad and sister and have dinner with my great-grandparents (God rest their souls). We'd watch "Kung Fu", then "The Waltons." I wasn't much for the "The Waltons", but I loved me some "Kung Fu"!! Thanks very much for posting all of these!

Trivia: This show was Bruce Lee's idea, but he envisioned it as extremely violent, too violent for prime time. Legend has it he despised the show when it was finally produced.

  • ROBTRAN....god, i had the very same feeling and thoughts about this. I came across Kung Fu (the TV episodes from Time Warner...including original movie on DVD)

what a pleasure of seeing this show again and all the actors, William Shatner, Carradine brothers, father and others. And talking pints by David Carradine whom I met at the Oriental World Of Self Defense in Madison Square Garden....brings back a ton of overwhelming great memories!

    :)

  • I liked master po's laid back style.

  • Hi everyone!! I am 23 years old and watched very little of the serie in thoses times, I am from Monterrey Mexico and practice the Shamng lumng sistem. When I found this channel I totally fell in reflexion and a weird but nice nostalgia. I just know Bruce Lee created the concept and wanted to introduce the philosophy of Tao and Buddhism. Although I like Bruce, Carradine is an excellent actor and didn't disappoint his job. Greetings.

  • Hi! It's great to hear from someone so young and with so much enthusiasm for these very insightful philosophies.

  • the master is so wise. I use to listen to him when I was young. I loved this show. His eyes to me were cool also.

  • Thanks to everyone for their generous comments and messages of support. You may also be interested in checking out my recently updated Youtube channel. Not only can you find all the "Tao of Kung Fu" clips here, but there are also many other interesting videos. You can visit it by clicking on the word "yinyangnature" anywhere in this window.

  • thanks for posting! I love this serie!

  • Awesome that you are uploading this and commenting. I'm going to write about this at my Kung Fu blog, kwaichangcaine.blogspot.com

  • Thank you very much when I was a kid I enjoyed a lot the teachings from the old master to Little Grasshopper, so I travel to Asia to visit the Shaolin Temple and meet wise masters. I could stay at Zen Monasteries in Japan and Sera Monastery in Tibet, those experiences changed my life.

  • Whouahh ! Thank you very much !

What a great idea to put on YouTube some of these clips full of wisdom... I would dream to be able to do the same for french people but I don't know which softwares to use.

I would be very grateful to you if you could put the flash back of chapter 4 (or 5) of "The Valley of Terror" (season 3) about experiencing oneness, with the silkworm and the moth.

  • Thanks for your support Amazenboy. Unfortunately, season 3 hasn't been released in my part of the world yet. But I'll be sure to post it when it becomes available here.
