Guitar Hero is an enterprise that used selected songs that were permitted to use to make money on video games. Not to bash Guitar Hero, or whatever, but it's all about money. The Exies produced some nice music before Guitar Hero used their songs in a game

@harmonicartist Yeah man. First and foremost, you have to realize that the video game industry is a business and they, just like any other business, is primarily concerned with the bottom dollar. Well the suits are anyway. Yeah it sucks, but when you think about it we need people like that to strike a balance in the passion and new art that's coming out. As a result, we get great games to play at a reasonable price and therefore companies thrive and flourish :)
