Heads up Momma's be sure to check with the hospital to see if your even able to put on your own cloths for baby, and you will definitely be leaving the hospital with way more then you came in with they usually give lots of extras....Also thanks for the video Carla!
this is fantastic information! I've been looking for lists as to what to put in the bags for the hospital... this covers everything! hope you don't mind me copying!!
lol i've always wondered why women put the clothes in the diaper bag...do the video and just take everything out to put it back in! i would just make the video before i pack everything in there!
It is awesome how you are well prepared. I m 6 months and already thinking about hospital bag lol. there is a lot to think about. Hope everything is going well for you!
LOVE the orginization!! I read the comment about the lansinoh cream, i kept mine in the wipe warmer and it came out smooth(of course u wont have one of these at the hospital). Oh and if you arent a fan of small flat pillows you might wanna bring a comfy one from home Good Luck :)
I concur w/ the pacifier! Hate them! Makes the babies dependent on them later...only time we used them were for my sister's preemies to strengthen their sucking capabilities. Plus, I like seeing ALL of their cute little faces. =)
You may want to have more receiving blankets. We went through those like crazy. The soother also has to be steralized before the first use. I BF and luckily had no nipple confusion. Advice I always give about BF is, if you can get past the first month it's amazing. At the beginning when my son used to turn his head away while still latched I thought I was going to die! Your nipples get used to it and then it doesn't matter if they take it accross the room it wouldn't hurt haha...
I way over packed for my L&D last year. You are well prepared. I will say from my own personal experience all we dressed my son in were sleepers with the mitts attached and hats. He didn't wear anything else other than his going home outfit. Also I'm not sure if your hospital provides diapers or not, if not you'll need more. I packed a whole box of breast pads and didn't need any! My milk came in late but Lansinoh was my BFF for 10 months. Good luck Mama :0) You're going to do great!
WOW Carla you look like you have it all done!! I love seeing bags people pack! I always pack more then enough I am always afraid I will not have something I want LOL
You've done well Carla, You may want to think about packing a small bag/box for special items to pop in such as her hospital band, umbillcal cord/clip, ect. Also, a stretchy wrap/blanket to wrap her in, i'm not sure if hospitals over there provide them, but they are very usefull to keep bubs snug. and possibly some bottled water ?
Apart from that you are the most organised person i know! good luck mate xoxo
I was in the hospital for 3 1/2 days due to my csection. I never used my breast pads because my official milk didn't come in till 5 days after I gave birth. Everyone is different of course. The hospital I went to provided diapers, wipes, and the Nuk or Soothie pacifer for baby. Not sure what your hospital provides though.
I agree with LiveStrong.. I'm taking notes! You are soo organized! I'm going to favorite this video so we can go back and watch when it comes time to packing our bag. I'm so excited for you that Hannah will be here soon!
I agree! Better to be safe then sorry! Plus, what you might need when having one baby you might not need when having another. So some people prob use different things in the end than others!
I know this has nothing to do with your packing, but I saw your lanolin nipple cream (which is great stuff) and had to recommend something. Start applying the nipple cream twice a day immediately, because it will condition your nipples. I didn't do this and had dry, cracked, bloody nipples in the beginning. I read the suggestion of use on the product and it recommended early conditioning of the nipples.
As a first time labor and delivery patient / mom, I would bring the exact same stuff that you did! I am really getting excited for you! I can't wait to meet Hannah!!!!!
Looks great! As a doula the top layer being the use first layer is a great idea. My one tip, but the striped change mat in an easier to reach place. You'll need it before the clothing change. :) good luck and have fun.
So funny about the gum and mints! because that happened to me! My husband ate a chicken sub and then proceeded to help with my focused breathing! Bad experience!
Good gawd girl you are organized, I just throw stuff in a bag! I am not trying to be rude but you will never use all that stuff! All u will want to do after she is here is sleep and nurse, but that's fine, your prepared!
From all nurses out there... You are amazing!! The nurses would LOVE Thank You cards!! I always love getting notes from patients because we usually just hear what we did wrong.
Fantastic!!!! I really like your diaper bag. Great packing list. You thought of things I hadn't thought of like packing towels just in case and massage accessories. I think those will be your best friends during labor. To bad you can't pack your animals and bring them to. :) I could totally see me in the hospital in labor with my cat sound asleep like nothing is happening. LOL! Although knowing Apollo and Caeser they will probably be on high alert barking. :)
more.... hot water bottle, cotton wool for those first awful diaper clean ups, baby shampoo, a clock/watch to put at your bedside, flip flops or crocs to wear going for walks, hospital/insurance card, baby hooded towel for after bath.
maybe this is overkill but just to give you some more ideas!!
you're already sooo prepared and probably annoyed by this lol!
Other stuff i thought of: water bottles, vaseline, thermometer, extra ziploc bags, baby nail clippers (sometimes they come out with long nails!), plastic bags to throw dirty diapers out, birthing ball?, reading material for yourself, small cooler if you want to keep your own drinks cold, ROLLING PIN (great for the back during labour!! relieves pressure), kleenex (hospital usually only has one-ply), your written birth plan (in case you're too out of it), mini mirror you can keep @ your bedside
one thing is missing... little miss hannah!! sorry but i couldn't resist haha you are so prepared and ready! i wish you the best labor possible and i hope everything follows through with your desired birth plan!
So I have a love hate relationship with pacifiers... Porter LOVES to suck and I was becoming his human pacifier which was miserable when I first started breastfeeding... so I think it's a great idea that you brought one... I wouldn't have given Porter one if he wasn't like that though... It's definately a battle we will have to fight later on. Haha... I brough cloth diapers too not realizing that with his circumsicion he couldn't wear it anyway because of the vascinline (I can't spell)
@Parkerfur I really don't want her to use a pacifier either, but I figured the only time she might need to use it during this trip is on the car ride home. Better safe than sorry I suppose...
wow i want to know how in the world you get so organized i would love to be like you. but we have so much stuff in my house you can't organize. lol like little things and i try to get baskets but don't help got any ideas and also i think you got all you need. do what i would do go on google and they will tell you what you need
u have some really cute stuff for your baby. I took alot of the same things when i had my baby and came home with a full untouched baby bag, Lol. They will remove her clothing SO many times!! Because they do so many test, and have to take baby, when baby comes back the nurses will have put your baby into either a side snap, or will wrap up with those cute cloths to the side. but of course I was told this too, but I enjoyed dressing her up for picture time.
you probably already have these things but these are a few things that popped into my head: -diaper cream -baby wipes -baby oil -address book with peoples phone nums to call -bibs -a toy or blankie that you can give to her that she can keep and say she got it the day she was born -travel coffee mug -slippers -hairband... instead of just hair ties -one of those fans that you put water in that blows cold air and mist -stopwatch to time contractions -ear plugs
Not sure if you have these on hand but tucks pads are a good postpartum item to have. Its the ones with witch hazel :) Looks like you are ready for baby girl!
I love it, how adorable! I will have to copy your diaper bag when I start packing. I am 16 weeks pregnant with twins. I found out what they are next week.
wow! I went to the hospital in a hurry, before I had a chance to pack my bags. I had my daughter 5 hours after we got to the hospital. I didn't have anything. I'm glad I didn't pack, I labored the entire time with my eyes closed and wouldn't have used anything I was planning on bringing. But hopefully you'll be happy with what you brought and get a chance to use it :-)
Isn't it so much fun to pack the baby bag for the hospital? My husband was so funny when we were packing it - he kept trying to slip more and more clothes in it. Yay!
@laurettabear I think Chris is of the mindset that I should just wear the hospital gowns the whole time. Everytime he says this I look at him and ask "Do you even know me?" lol :)
Like I said before congrates and I wish you three well and I can't wait to see your baby. I think you should pack some more undies. I packed 7 and thank g_d I did. :)
I wouldn't recommend a pacifier right now. Since you're breastfeeding, it wouldn't be best until maybe after 3 months or so, because she can get nipple confusion. My daughter did because she had to be in the nicu for a while, and they gave her a pacifier without my permission ( I was BFing ) so after tha she was having a bit of an issue latching on. Just a suggestion =0)
OH, okay. I don't want you to think I'm trying to talk to you like your stupid or anything, I just saw you wanted to bf, and didn't want you to have any trouble with it =0) I loved bfing. My daughter was in the NICU the first week of her life, and I had to stop bfing because we were living further away from the hospital, and I also wasn't producing enough to pump, so I was sad. I really hope bfing works out for you =0) Good luck, and happy anners.
Just a suggestion of something additional to add to your (I admit amazing!) labor aide bag is a small black comb. Hold the comb so that the teeth are touching the acupressure points in your hand. These points lie along the creases of the hands where the fingers join the palm. These are said to help release endorphins (the body’s natural painkillers) into the body. It also gives you something to focus on other than the pain. Good luck!! I hope you have a beautiful, calm and amazing birth! :)
When I was in nursing school, my OB instructor, who is also a nurse midwife, was very pro "med free" deliveries, and if she had a woman who was not dilating or thinning well, then she would give them a lifesaver to suck on and concentrate on telling them to imagine the lifesaver as the cervix and imagine it thinning. So as the lifesaver thins and the center gets larger, your cervix will as well. Sounds really crazy, but Its the whole mind-body connection thing, and she swears by it.
I think you have done a fantastic job and if the day comes i will definitely look at this vlog as a reference thank you for being super organized I sure love it :)
Wow you are so well prepared and organized, one would think you're a 3rd time mom or something hehe! I love all of Hannah's little outfits and onesies, so colorful. Just a tip about the Lansinoh... It is very thick, so for really sore nipples it could be a little rough. Good news is Medela makes a Tendercare one that is very soft and works just as well. I could only tolerate the Tendercare the first couple weeks, so I recommend it to everyone planning to breastfeed :)
@AmyLizz I'm glad you mentioned this. I think it's really thick too!! I can't imagine it feeling good to put it on sore nipples, but so many moms swear by it. I'll keep your Medela suggestion in mind. Thanks!
Awesome! Looks to me like you have everything. I think I still had more than you though...lol! I swear...the nurses thought we were moving in!!!
You just never know what you might need...You might use just a few things, but you might use them all! Much better to be safe than sorry :o) Does it all feel more 'real' to you now? I remember packing my bag... it really hit me then :D All the best to you Carla. Can't wait to 'meet' your beautiful little girl. :D
I over packed as well. I'm not sure how many breast pads you packed but i'm thinking your might need a few more. I did the same thing with the outfits i packed (put ziplocks with matching socks, hats, & mittens). Looks like you got everything to me.
Someting else good to do with the stress or tennis balls is to tap them rhythemiclly on a wall or the bed during a contraction. It's suposed to help you stay focused and distract you from the pain cause you consentrating on the tapping rhythem. It was one technique i got from my antenatal. Maybe add lip balm to your labor bag too.
I definalty won't be telling you 'you won't need that' lol you should see my bag, it's a full sized suit case & then I have a carry on suitcase for labour/prebirth lol
@lucytune80 yes! lip balm for sure! i would also throw a travel bottle of baby powder into her diaper bag as well so you dont have to go searching for it in your labor bag :)
Heads up Momma's be sure to check with the hospital to see if your even able to put on your own cloths for baby, and you will definitely be leaving the hospital with way more then you came in with they usually give lots of extras....Also thanks for the video Carla!

I think you should add a fresh pair of pants (and pads) for your "if-my-water-breaks-at-work" bag....:)

@lucytune80 Great tip! I can see how that would help distract...
thebubblelush 1 year ago
@lucytune80 yes! lip balm for sure! i would also throw a travel bottle of baby powder into her diaper bag as well so you dont have to go searching for it in your labor bag :)
