The only evil i see in human beings is the idea that we ourselves are "Gods", we think we are so fucking smart, well inteligence is relative. We compare ourselves with dogs and estabolish a sense of higher being. we are no better then the ants in the sand. Our earth could easily be destroyed by a wide variety of cosmic destruction. am not a huge christian believer , however if my life has reached a point where i really do not want to live and know that my life will continue in pain and despair , will god accept me killing myself?

The only evil i see in human beings is the idea that we ourselves are "Gods", we think we are so fucking smart, well inteligence is relative. We compare ourselves with dogs and estabolish a sense of higher being. we are no better then the ants in the sand. Our earth could easily be destroyed by a wide variety of cosmic destruction. Although it is good advice, it isn't perfect. I, for one, am content with my life. It may not be perfect but that is mostly out of my control...we can't stop ourselves from being mortal, so to speak, so chin up and enjoy your time here. I'm not after perfection just being happy.

You're the only one flaming. You are disagreeing without evidence. If I said a panda drove the Earth around the Sun, but I couldn't prove it, I would be rightly ridiculed. You are suggesting something far more irrational. If you cannot see that, then you are lost. I emplore you not to spread your faith to any other person.
Faith, as Dawkins has quite accurately stated, is a virus, especially when it targets the young. Rid yourself of this virus like any other: with a strong dose of rationalism.

Religion is even worse than faith, and I can easily point out why this is, but I think you know. Again, I don't care if it's been around since time immemorial, that doesn't make it a good thing.
Currently, about 90% of the world are religious, based on census data. 10% are agnostics or atheists.
One day, despite people being terrified of death, 90% of people will be atheists and agnostics, and there is no doubt in my mind, or millions of rationalists' minds, that the world will be better.

Myself, along with millions and millions of rationalists, have only recently realised that there are many people that agree with us. Atheism is on the rise, and for good reason: we're objective humanists, and we *know* that faith is dangerous, irrational, and decisive. Just because it has been around for millennia, it doesn't mean it's good. Cancer has been around for a very long time, but that doesn't make it a good thing, does it?
And no, I'm not respecting faith if it's counter-humanist.

This issue of offense is always something that atheists have to deal with, and it's a ridiculous argument. So you're offended. Well, I'm not trying to offend anyone, I'm trying to get people to think unapologetically and unashamedly. So if you are offended, then so what? Defend yourself. Being blunt is not equivalent to being rude. And yes, they are childish beliefs - belief in a god is equivalent to believing in Santa Claus, fairies, or ghosts.

Please, people, realise that a) this offers no evidence for the existence of any sort of god, and most importantly, b) the rather honest words written about our particular species were written by a human, not some imaginary being. Think about it. We are better than this.

Why does "God" have to take responsibility for something amazing a human wrote? There's no need to be so deluded that every time something amazing happens on Earth, whether that be a written reflection or a huge, world-changing event, people have to mention a god. All I'm saying is give humanity itself some credit!

That's exactly my problem. The author wrote it - he should take credit to embolden humans, not something which there is no evidence for.
If there was a god governing the Universe, then it would be a very different kind of Universe, especially if he/she/it was anything like the one described in the Bible. If that were the case, I would hope humanity would have the courage to destroy it.

I think it was a good video. It was very moving. The wording was very much like something a father would say to his children. It shouldn't be turned into a creationist darwinist debate. I personally don't find that frightening at all, but for the people who do, so what? It's based on fact. Just because you want a god to be there (and I can't see why you would - it's a horrible, childish, and authoritarian idea) that does not in any way make it true. Grow up.

I do give humanity credit but you don't need to be so against something when you know it doesn't exist. Why fight it if you know? everyone had fairy tales when they were young. they grew up with an imaginary story. the true humanist would respect his fellow human no matter his belief. We are naturally social creatures. religion evolved with our socialness. it plays a role in the world. accept it for others to have there beliefs and we thrive

Well, BILLIONS think it does, and this isn't only irrational, it's detrimental to the progression of our species, it's dangerous, and has lead to so much lunacy and destruction, more than anything else in recent history. ok hold on. I don't subscribe to ANY religion. I have my OWN beliefs. I offend nobody with them, and made absolutely no notion that I belonged to the creationist camp. I was stating that I can take something from this video, even when I don't believe in a omnipresent intelligent God. True religion has contributed to major hinderence in scientific studies in the past, but those old crusades are dying out, and being replaced with practicality. however....
