  • Ask the Dust is my all time favorite book and this is a movie about racial tension and being mexican... not at all what the book was about. Arturo Bandini never wanted a "golden haired girl", this movie is a total sham

  • The movie definitely did NOT do John Fante's book any justice.

  • maybe I will buy this movie someday, but mostly because i want to see Idina ;)

    She is so great!

  • This movie is not really good. Although I love Colin Farrell

  • starnger at a City

it is the same chit at the City where i am

i whrite for Grossnas the Story

  • I hear the sequel, "The Dust Answers," is just as bad.

  • Another great book turned into a shitty movie....

  • I loved this movie. It was tender and treated the subject of internalized oppression with sensitivity and dignity. The typical multi-generational syndrome of having to blend to become "American" has repeated itself in the homes and lives of countless immigrants and even indigenous peoples across the US. I liken this film to West Side Story and give it a hearty thumbs up!

  • arturo bandidni is the greatest character of all time, how dare they make such a terrible film about him. what would bukowski say about all this?

  • @handsomevision Henry wouldn't have liked it at all, But he probably would have enjoyed hanging out with Colin Farrell, I'm sure.

  • @handsomevision It's true...I will have to oblitearte my memory of having ever watched this trailer now. Sad times.

  • johnny depp was suppose to play the part colin plays but he was filming pirates. i loved the chemistry between colin and salma

  • you can't take a good novel and expect to make a good movie out of it; good literature is much better left on paper.

  • the book is not at all a love story. most of it made me cringe. especially the chapters with vera. my god, the book is fucked up to the extreme.

  • @woogrind Amen.

  • I saw this movie recently and I am shocked to see that it was poorly received by critics. I really enjoyed it!!!

  • any movie where you see selma hayek's tits and pussy is good in my book.

  • i have a strange feeling that they fucked it up and made a shitty lovestory from a awesome book. the story of camilla lopez was only a background for the true meaning of the novel.

and they probably didnt show the part when he calls her a dirty nigger.

  • @KzmGrp i dont remember arturo calling her a dirty nigger? but he does call her a greaser and i believe a spick.

  • I love IDINA♥ It's true, nly watching this for her♥

  • I agree. only watching it for idina menzel.

  • where can i see this online???/

  • isn't colin one of the sexiest people in the world?

  • im only watching this for Idina xD

  • Idina Menzel is the best part of this movie =] but Colin Farrell isn't half bad either, hahaha.

  • Arturo...apaixonante Arturo!

  • I just finished the book today. So good. This movie looks awful, though. Colin Farrell CAN'T PLAY ITALIANS.

  • i love this movie its sensual

  • John Fante is my hero, and in respect to the amazing book, including the unbelievable Wait Untill Spring, Bandini, i will never see this disgrace of a movie

  • I absolutely loved this moovie.....its weird in an really nice way

  • how is the end of the movie???????

  • this looks terrible nothing like the book from what im seeing

  • true....

  • This is perhaps the worst adaptation of a great novel in the history of filmmaking. The casting is diabolically bad. Towne should have cast unknows and certainly not cast an Irishman to play an Italian, or at least an Irishman who could convincely play an Italian. I would have gone with a young Devito, DeNiro, Pacino or Peci but not Colin FArell. NOt his fault but just not at all right for the part.

  • I agree, but I also remember "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" as a ridiculous book-rape. Sometimes it's better not to try.

  • wow wtf

  • I'm reading the book now and I love it:)

I hope the movie is as good as the book!

  • Hope you loved reading Ask the Dust!

  • What's the main song in this movie? What is that melody and where can i get it?

  • i love salma

  • Aren't these two a little old to play Bandini and Camilla?

  • I have the book on my computer, i had dowload it whiout want.

If anyone want´s to read it send to Nafttalli your e-mail!

Ps: Sorry my bad bad English

  • really? i love this movie can you send me the book?

i really want 2 read it

  • this trailer is confusing :/

  • This movie sucked. It didn't do what it was supposed to all of salma and colin's hotness could not save this film. it had no passion. it was just pathetic and sad, sad because it could have been a great love story. The actors hearts were not in the movie. If you want a great romance watch the Notebook.

  • I haven't seen this film. I adore Fante's books but I think his style would be hard to convey on screen. I say this because his style is so personal and 1st person. A lot of what he writes are distorted thoughts and emotions. it would be hard to get an actor to put the passion across like Fante's words do.

I don't think I want to ever see this film. I love Ask The Dust so much I wouldn't want it to be tainted at all. Plus, the book is so viseral I don't need to watch it on screen!

  • colin farrel and salma hayek, wow, now we are talking .its like that salma name is the hotest name on this planet

  • If you love the book, stay away from the movie. Towne blew his chance and he could have at least got the geography of Bunker Hill right.

  • this is the worst adaptation of a book into film i have ever seen and I only saw this trailer! Made me sick. If you like the book, don't watch the film based on this trailer; keep the story in your head based on your interpretation of the book.

  • i watched this film last night. not really bad.. there is story.. aha.. but these two leading ladies dies. it shows descrimination of americans to mexicans.

  • Is there anywhere i can watch this movie online for free?

  • I'm a great admirer of Fante. That being said, this 'film adaptation' made me pretty sick. I really wouldn't suggest it. It just didn't capture an iota of the feel of the more-than-amazing book. (which i can't suggest enough) Nor did it create a singular glimmer of it's own magic. It was too glossy, and it lacked any soulful art. Too me, anyway.

  • This trailer looks really good but I hear it was a bad movie. Hmmm And the part where they show Idina Menzel in this trailer is kind of random and unexplained. I guess I'll just have to get the movie.

  • I read the book and it's fantastic. I'm gonna see this movie and it will probably disapoint me:/

  • Colin Farrel is so sexy i need to see this film ASAP!

  • Colin Farrel is very very hot!!!! ^^ Film Stupendo!!!!!

  • all I said was "I'll let you know"

  • ahhh!! idina!! gotta love her...wanna watch soo bad! =) thanks so much for posting..

  • 1:11-1:18 YAY! IDINA<33 she rox!!!

  • colin farrell is so hot!!!!

  • fuck yeah!!

  • O filme é bom mas (como sempre) o livro é beeeeem melhor... E o final é realmente diferente, como comentaram aí abaixo...

Se eu ainda tivesse o livro te emprestava, rs... mas ja devolvi... quem sabe num sebo?

    Veja no "estante virtual", conhece?

  • Agreed! I walked out as an avid Fante fan. They ruined everything.

  • What is the name of the song in 1:44?

  • This is a really good movie. however, the book is even better, and a bit different. The ending is different, and the movie is more sugar coated and sweet than the book. John Fante (the author) really did fall in love with a mexican girl when he moved to LA when he was young and he kind of based the story on it. their relationship in the book however was even more fucked up!

  • @keckarose how was their relationship fucked up?

  • Fuck this. Colin Farrel can't be arturo bandini. Too handsome!

  • I love you Colinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn :)

  • I love this movie...

    it really is touching...

    especially the last part

  • I didn't found the movie boring at all. I thought it was a great movie! AND HOT! All the actors did an amazing job on it...I do found her death a bit odd. Not enough emotions and it went all too fast but other then that I thought this was a good movie and it doesn't deserve the reviews it gets... + AMAZING Trailer!

  • I love this movie it's so cute and Idina makes it AMAZING. She is the highlight of the film...and I don't like Colin Farrell because he said he would go see Idina in Wicked and then he never did!!!

  • why does Idina have 2 die in this one 2 omg waaa I hate it

  • wat ova 1s does her characters die in? this is upsetting stuff... x

  • Ha, well Wicked of course! x

  • OMG What else did she die in?

I really wanna see this film... Who is idina's character here?

  • Vera Rivkin

  • No honest..

Want to see it because of 2 reasons, no matter what the reviews say (they're so negative! I don't understand.. I saw the trailer and thought: I need to see this!)

    1. Idina Menzel is in there..

    2. I am a writer!

There's something like this one too: Shadows in the sun", about writing two.. awesome movie, but without any kind of action in it..

  • "Ask the Dust" got bad reviews, but the book is brilliant. I just finished reading it and then found out they made a film about it. I encourage only intelligent people to read it, especially those that have a penchant for writing.

  • This Idina? THIS IDINA! You do not refer to Idina Menzel as "this Idina" PJTubes2!!!! Okay sorry. I'm okay.

  • two wonderful actors in the same movie =)

  • The film is beautiful. Selma and Collin both do a wonderful job of portraying these torn lovers. I'm not familiar with this Idina but she does bring something to the film, though to credit her for carrying it is unfair as her role is minor.

  • uhm first of all its salma. =/

second.. this idina your talking about is idina menzel - she won a tony for best actress in the musical wicked. shes credited because she is so famous, she was also in the original cast of rent and was in the movie. its not like shes this woman who is just randomly in the film and gets credit for it. she is a big time superstar. just type in her name, theres TONS of stuff on her on youtube.

  • Is she you aunt or cousin or something? Please calm down, as I was simply stating my opinion. And if she is this big star you claim, good for her. I am unfamiliar with her work, as I stated. And no matter how great she is, her role is minor and therefore she did not as many of you allude, carry the movie.

  • Oh Idina Menzel is just wonderful. Ahhhhhhhh. I love that womannnnn <33

  • Does the film come out in Holland too? Idinafans over here...:)

  • Its coming out there on June 22.

  • another dutch idina fan!

it's only in big towns in June 22..

I live somewhere far from normal life and will have to wait 2 more weeks..

  • Yeah I saw all the reviews (the UK ones) yesterday and they were all like saying stuff like "This is a boring movie, except for Idina Menzel (remember this name)" As if we don't know it already...I'm wayyyy ahead of you critic people!

  • I haven't seen this yet, it's not out in the UK till Friday. Apparently its bad. It looks soooooooo boring. But nevertheless I will be there on Friday to see my Idina Menzel. I'm sure she is fab in this.

  • It is very boring! And Idina it's the only thing good in it, but I had to upload it.
