@whonowsus Mmm...not heard of this person...can you give me some more info ??? will have a look myself yet if you have any info it would help...thanks for comment.
@whonowsus have had a hunt around...there is very little media on line I can see so far about Chow Hayes...not many photographs etc...so unless i microfish my way around the state he was in..it looks like it is going to be very difficult...i found his story..yet not much else....sorry...had a look but ...not really much media !
Nasty fuckers. I'm re-reading Razor by Larry Writer and, man, think Chicago was bad? It had NOTHING on Sydney. Al Capone would not last five minutes in Sydney with characters like Tilly Devine, Kate Leigh, Frank 'The Little Gunman' Green, Bruan, Snowy Cutmore and many more colourful characters. They were NASTY as. Mate, the Yanks were pussies compare to the Aussies. The only ones who came close were the Glasgow lot and the East Enders
@bigbadreddog Just re-read it myself. My family grew up there from 1900 onwards, I am thoroughly enjoying Underbelly:Razor, though a wonderful series it doesn't half capture the hardness of these men and women. The vernacular around these areas was not captured and the accent way off
Really enjoyed your compilation of photos; and your music set the mood and captured exactly the right spirit. Makes me more fascinated with that period now.
Most photos i've seen from this era are nowhere near as clear or real looking, the people usually look a bit stunned, from the flashlight i guess, & theres a general haziness to the photos. But these are incredibly clear & well preserved, maybe the police had top of the line cameras for the time, fascinating stuff.
@scarypoultry they are rather wonderful..I hunted and found the best I think..truly amazing pictures..and an amazing way of the police of the time to photograph them....as if they would know !!..thanks for looking.
thanks for posting this, these photos are amazing! i actually found this clip because i was searching for the Underbelly Razor show preview but also found this, i notice some of the photos in this are also in their preview, i wonder if they stole them from your clip. Anyway when i saw the photos in the preview i thought they were so clear that they were photos taken of actors in the upcoming series & touched up to make them look old, i didn't realize they are real photos. continued...
@scarypoultry thanks again for looking..the pictures are very real...as are the crimes they commited some petty and some members of Razor gangs and prostitutes associated with Tilly Devine and Kate Leigh...the promo may very well have pinched images ...either from me or from the Police Museum Journal of Photography the rogues galleries are amazing...
@mugpeople hey thanks for support...seems to be a popular vid...oh well...why not....will do..stay tuned..mmm melbourne crims...see what I can find...watch this space...!
@Theghostswithin Well thank you! I wait in anticipation. I come from Melbourne and recall my father telling some interesting stories of his father and uncles and some strange goings on back in the 1920's and 30's. I'm drawn to all this old stuff for some reason, so bring it on please.
@mugpeople ok may take a little while to find data...but done one on Moran family in the meantime..will do some research and look into 1920-30 Melbourne crime...a fascinating era no doubt...
@mugpeople managed to find some data about chinese crims in melbourne...called Underbelly chinese style..not much to find else sadly..this was all I could really come up with for now..took ages but hope you like it !

Thanks for this upload,
fascinating images of colourful Sydneysiders in the 20's.
It's quite eerie looking into the celluloid eyes of these characters, ghosts of Darlinghurst and Surry Hills
had many a pub crawl in those areas in my younger years...Bat & Ball...The Darlo..
thumbs up and faved!

i would not at all be surprised if nine pinched the images from your clip, there seems to be a bunch of amateurs running the station lately.
