@JuJuHound I only made a remark about the title. I didn't criticized the music or whatever, it was... just... useless words, okay. Actually I don't enjoyed that rythm, but I do appreciate the quality of his playing.
(And I wanna apologize, I'm french and I recently learnt the real meaning of 'stupid'. To my mind, it wasn't as bad as you could have understood it, sorry.)
I play a little djembe, maybe I'll post a little video response, but I'm wondering why so many folks turn their hand on it's side to mute for the pop sound. I can't distinguish any difference in the sound when I turn it or when I lay it flat and it is a lot easier for me to get in and out of it, if you know what I mean.
First off - mad props - great fast djembe playing. Even though it's crazy fast, you maintain a decent groove. Not much fun to listen to, but I know where this video is coming from - that hyper-stoked djembe groove you get in after playing for an hour or so, hehe.
@hippiepeinturluree so because he put djembe in the title, it immediately becomes stupid? wow. how about just watching/listening and enjoying what it IS, instead of criticizing what it ISNT.
Wow. HATERS. First its not sped up. If it were the sound would be messed. Second dont hate on the play style. I play cajon, bongos, djembe, and mandolin all in ways they arent "MEANT" to be played. Music is about innovation and creativity... and while i respect the traditional roots of each instrument its way more fun and far more interesting to create new things on old or even ancient instruments. Props man. Keep it up.
I hate the haters. Kevin this video is pretty damn good. I like the style and the variety of sounds. To all you haters whining about the title and complaining about the non-traditional sound, get a grip on reality and embrace not deface. I have played in African dance classes and now I play with House and Techno DJs. There is no need to disrespect someone for not playing the style you may like the most.
Kenin! Wow! That was crazy amazing! Your hands are moving so fast, they look like there not moving at all! I'm totaly blowen away!! You have taken Djembe to a whole new level! I was going to see if you would hook me up with a ex-coworkers daughters discount, but now I'm to impressed!I have no skills next to you! Keep it up! -Miranda S.
Sooooo far from a Djembe master. The title in West Africa(where the Djembe comes from) is given to those that have devoted their lives to the study of traditional rhythms, solo pieces, historical facts and myths and most of all the beautiful and melodic sounds that can be coaxed out of the Djembe with years of study.
This man has NONE of that and deserves no such title of "Djembe Master" He is not producing a single traditional sound on that drum. He has plenty of rhythmic talent but to call him a Djemebe Master is a joke and a poor one at that. Look up "Ibrahima Boka Camara" on Youtube to see a true master.
Because you guys obviously take this "Master" thing waaay too seriously, I've changed the name so as not to offend the "REAL" players out there who are obviously so much better - how could I be so blind. Geez people, stop being so stinking lame and posting complete negativity. If I see another post that's deemed rude or pointless, it's deleted.
hoping i'm neither rude nor pointless: kevin: u have great hands and i feel yor love 4 music. thank u 4 sharing. but the issue of who is a master and who isn't must b take very seriously. as a student of djembe i can tell u that the djembe tradition is quickly being eroded by many so-called "masters" who pass themselves off as djembefola to many unsuspecting non-africans.
Just to make it clear! I never have called myself a master. My friend posted this vid and maybe said I was a master, but I'm not. I totally want to say thanks for your nice comments, I do love to play and most of my skills are drumset oriented.
Major beats going on! I can only hope to reach such a level - keep it going my friend. I will be viewing this video a few times to take it all in - please keep it online as long as you can and send some more.
wow, i especially liked the beat goin on at around 1:45. Im gonna see if i can do that drag the side of the hand thing now, that is nice. didnt know the pitch dropped as you moved it awaty from the other hand.
