If you guys want heavy mallets try the Jeff Moore Signature series from Pro-mark especially #4 Also the Jim casella's from IP the 1001X's Are pretty heavy lol:P
they are heavy at first, but after the little muscles are built more in your hands, they become very easy to play with. the weight of them really allows you to let the mallet do the work rather than forcing the note out...it eventually works to your advantage
Just wanted to know what mallets she was playing with. I find heavy often sounds better but I too am struggling with some of the heavier mallets as it seems to be easier with somewhat lighter ones.
also keep in mind with her playing...she plays center of the bar for every note she plays, i was talking with her at the conference and she always goes after center no matter what, that could definitely help her sound . a lot of her other recordings, she would use ABC mallets which are $200 for a set...i'm pretty sure they are heavier than hers now actually
they might be heavier then the abe's, it also may depend on if you get them in birch or rattan(i played birch, the rattan was way to thick for my hands) and it also depends on what grip you use...she plays traditional, i play stevens, the weight could be distributed differently...i think she was using her 2's here though...if i remember the color right...
About Keiko Abe mallets, I definitely love the sound they produce, unfortunately, I don't get used to rattan handles :/ And if I'm right they are not sold with birch handles... :(
Do you think they could be a good alternative to my KA mallets ?
what kind of marimba do you primarily play on? always keep that in mind...her mallets sound great on marimba ones, but that's what i always played on.
i ordered most of my percussion stuff through steve weiss, i think you can order them and possibly return them? I've returned mallets before and it was ok, just to try them out. or get to a PAS conference...what better way to try things out! i've been to a couple in the past few years and i took abe mallets and played on marimba one's...but that's also when i chose the KM's
:20-27 fail. i love that chromatic part those rhythms made me sad. =(

Too much rubato. Lovely playing, no doubt about it, but the main melody gets messed up because of all the weird tempo changes

@owmyankle do you know the piece? and how is written? I mean the Sammut piece not the piazzolla. Because for your comment i I think you are confused.

This is so great that someone got video from the convention. I've never seen anything except short clips posted online. Great!

I hear those mallets are nearly impossible to play with because of how heavy they are.

I agree!! Love em, but, I do feel like they don't give a big enough sound for how heavy they are...

the mallets sound heavy
it feels like the notes are almost being weighed down...
