  • He means "damp." Not "dampen." Unless he sweats a lot.

  • @meta7for He definitely does.

  • like sirens lol

  • Id say god... but warren is better!

  • ah, 240p, we meet again.

  • Thanks Warren,

    You are very respected.

    _Burney Warren

  • absolutely beautiful

  • lol Haynes is a beast but not much was said in this lesson.

    but its still much appreciated

  • veyebratoh

  • I started playing in 1985, so George Thorogood was actually my first slide-guitar influence, as strange as it may seem. But he was a perfect influence to start with because he's not that technical of a player - It was easy for me to learn his stuff, and it was a good stepping-stone to the harder stuff from guys like Haynes, David Lindley, Joe Walsh, and Sonny Landreth.

By the way, it sounds like the cops are coming for him. You can hear it towards the end. Better hide the weed, dude.

  • Warren Haynes for president!

  • AWESOMEE MAN NICE !!! i like the slide from any music!

  • Warren, can you just teach me "your" flat & unwanted noises ??

I`m sorry Big Guy, but i just dont think you can make a guitar do such a thing !

  • Whatever that was that he plays at the end is awesome

  • Too bad you can't mute out the sirens in the background. :)

  • i saw him with govt mule in charleston, and it was fucking amazing

  • you can still mute the strings with a pick. i do it. i use my palm to mute the low strings and my extra fingers to mute the high strings. i do use my fingers sometimes. usually for softer songs.

  • u make me lov slide guitar thank for the teaching...

  • standard tuning.

  • RY COODER :^D

  • y'all crack me up naming rock stars as the best slide players in the world. Ever heard of John Primer or Lil Ed?

  • Dave Tronzo?

  • look, i love john primer, and i love the late RL burnside, but theres a reason they get(or got) people like warren haynes to back them up

  • is he in standard or open tuning?

  • Appears to be standard. He gets the minor chord sound from the top three strings together (Em shape = G-B-E).

  • Not sure why people are commenting on the guitar itself or the police sirens in the background...you've all missed the point. Warren is describing string dampening technique when it comes to slide playing. I've been playing for 30 years and only in the last 2 have gotten into slide playing..and Warren is the biggest influence on that. I don't care what anyone says.....there is NOBODY that can make a guitar sing like Warren can. It's crazy.

  • .....derek trucks??

  • Warren is my favorite, but derek is the best slide player in the world. But their great together.

  • learned from Dickey and Duane ,who learned from???? if yer goin' up the tree,go to the top.Warren brings 'em all in,Derek is still playin' the same thing he was playin' the first time I ever heard him.Try Sonny Landreth, just remember it's only music-Warren Rocks!!!!

  • amen to that

  • i want a gibson 335 so bad but they cost 2000 english sterling,i'll have to steal one.

  • thats a sweet sound

  • Haha, you can hear the police siren at 4:10 approx... the coppers are comin' to get him!

  • that guitar is the baddest of the bad...1961 Gibson ES-335

  • Thats what Farmer said. lol

  • Gov´t Mule for the win!
