I started playing in 1985, so George Thorogood was actually my first slide-guitar influence, as strange as it may seem. But he was a perfect influence to start with because he's not that technical of a player - It was easy for me to learn his stuff, and it was a good stepping-stone to the harder stuff from guys like Haynes, David Lindley, Joe Walsh, and Sonny Landreth.
By the way, it sounds like the cops are coming for him. You can hear it towards the end. Better hide the weed, dude.
you can still mute the strings with a pick. i do it. i use my palm to mute the low strings and my extra fingers to mute the high strings. i do use my fingers sometimes. usually for softer songs.
Not sure why people are commenting on the guitar itself or the police sirens in the background...you've all missed the point. Warren is describing string dampening technique when it comes to slide playing. I've been playing for 30 years and only in the last 2 have gotten into slide playing..and Warren is the biggest influence on that. I don't care what anyone says.....there is NOBODY that can make a guitar sing like Warren can. It's crazy.
learned from Dickey and Duane ,who learned from???? if yer goin' up the tree,go to the top.Warren brings 'em all in,Derek is still playin' the same thing he was playin' the first time I ever heard him.Try Sonny Landreth, just remember it's only music-Warren Rocks!!!!
He means "damp." Not "dampen." Unless he sweats a lot.

y'all crack me up naming rock stars as the best slide players in the world. Ever heard of John Primer or Lil Ed?

Dave Tronzo?
operasinger61904 2 years ago
look, i love john primer, and i love the late RL burnside, but theres a reason they get(or got) people like warren haynes to back them up
birdiejoehoaks 2 years ago
is he in standard or open tuning?
JKryanX 2 years ago
Appears to be standard. He gets the minor chord sound from the top three strings together (Em shape = G-B-E).
