Awesome job training your Chihuahua! I love that you are using the clicker method. My Golden Retriever's name is River and your video showed up as a suggestion to my River's newest trick movie! I'll check out more of your videos.
River is so cute! She is the smartest Chihuahua I have ever seen! I'm working on "Face" with Leo (thanks again for the great tutorial!) but he only seems to want to kind of swat at his face and not keep it there like River does. We've been working on it for weeks now but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make him keep it there longer.
I had the same problem with River just swatting at her face. I worked on her holding her paw on my hand, while luring her head under, for longer and longer periods. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice, i'll keep practising!! At the moment we're working on rollover and she seems to be getting the hang on it. Gotta work on my handsignals! I think the video looks great!!
Jillian! I love these videos, River's tricks are soooo cute, you've given me a few ideas for tricks i could be getting on with. I always find it difficult to fade out 'extreme' hand signals. Uni always needs some coaxing with tricks. I always try and fade out the food lure in about 3 go's but i've never just said a tricks and she does it. Is it just a case of practise makes perfect!!?
@Amyyeahyeahyeahs As far as hand signals, I usually start with a food lure and then an empty hand as a lure. River is also usually reliant on hand signals, but I adapt them to make them look more natural with the trick. You can tell in the video that she just learned "play dead" (which was a huge deal for her) and I adapted the hand signal to look like a gun. I will eventually distance it more and more. You can also say the cue (once only) then wait and do the signal if needed. Hope that helps.
She is a dainty little dog indeed! I love when she's doing her tricks and she really enjoys herself.

Such a good girl! I admire people who teach tricks.. seems to take more time and patience than I have! My Harley's "tricks" are learned by accident.

@meximurphy Thanks! Yes, some take longer than others but I enjoy it:)
