Bellof's result may have been erased by the FIA, but his performance will never be erased from formula one's history. An example of pure driving artistry by Formula One's greatest lost talent!
Senna, the greatest pilot of all the times, selected by 217 F1 pilots of f1 in the autosport magazine, show why he was a genius. With the 9th team of f1, [Toleman was 9th in 1983] beat the champion of this year with superb McLaren TAG, did the best lap in heavy rain in only his 7th f1 race.
Tyrrell didn't cheat, merely bent the rules. They got chucked out on a technicality so all the turbo mob could push through a rule change (larger fuel tank to aid their greater fuel consumption), rule changes needed unanimous consent under the Concorde Agreement so once Tyrrell (who vetoed it) got booted....there was very conveniently no problem. Then they were reinstanted once the rule had been pushed through.
@jonny15041983 No, they weren't reinstated. In the official statistics Arnoux is still third in this Grand Prix. So It's just a conspiracy theory often to rad in german formula one forums by belloff nostalgicians.
In these conditions Senna has better car than Prost. Becoause , To keep Turbo cars on wet track is much more dificult than DFV'S ... You saw how fast he overtake Prost, just in the midle of the stright.
@schopfheim91 - the Hart engine had a great reputation at the time for its' good throttle response. Due to the lack of funding Brian Hart was never able to get the same top-end power as Porsche, BMW or Honda, his skill however came through in drivability.
@mouktai Maybe Beloff was a little faster than Senna this day, but he would have to overtake the brazilian and prost. And Senna was a little bit quicker in overtaking this day. Maybe Beloff would have catched Senna, but Senna would have mad it very hard for him to pass. But Belloff was disqualifies anyway. So the race was Senna's!
@villy27 Both drivers were amazing young talent. Bellof was cut short of ever having a chance to make a big name for himself in Formula 1. It seems sad, really, that Senna and Bellof could not compete in Formula 1 for years. It would have been some of the greatest racing of all time. Tyrrell bickering notwithstanding, a 6:11 'ring time in a Porsche 956 is immense talent and it's a shame F1 lost them both. The world misses Senna and Bellof.
No, Bellof did not cheat, but his team did. That's a difference. And Bellof's performance was still great, from 20th to third and he would have finished second at least!
@schopfheim91 - IIRC there was no proof the car was even the FIA's flimsy definition of illegal in Monaco; the Tyrrell disqualification was based entirely on Brundle's car in Detroit. One thing I don't miss about 1980s F1 was the political rubbish...
Senna, as usual in rain with his clear inferior car, against the powerful McLaren- near 130hp more powerful than his Toleman- catch Lauda, a superb 2 times World Champion in rain. Now the best came on, because the fastest man was Senna and close to his times Bellof.
Thats really magic by Senna but remember the 3rd place ? Which is Stefan Bellof...He start from 20th !!! Still uses a normal aspiration engine though !
Normally Aspirated engine tends to be a little better in wet. You have that Turbo lag that can get you, it will snap the rear end out when the turbo catches. Would have been great though

@schopfheim91 The rip uses the BBC's Grand Prix as a basis... Grand Prix was part of a sports afternoon magazine show called Grandstand, hosted by Des Lynam, and they would switch between various live sports. With F1 they tended to fade to other stuff when it seemed like nothing was happening, though of course it was always the cue for the leader to spin off or the greatest overtake of all time or something.
what was with the, like, double wings on these cars?

was the video and audio matched up seperately? judging by japanese and the announcement around 1:15, i would guess that is the case.

Give Bellof a full 2 hours race and he clearly wins this GP.
That guy was an insane and unmatched genius.

Senna was closing Prost at about 4 secs a lap, he is the all time best driver in my opinion.
The Tyrrell team's (Bellof's team) results were erased later in the season due to weight infringements.
So in other words Bellof cheated!!!

What a overtaking by Senna, in the pouring rain! And it's the first time Monaco in rain for him! It is such a shame he is not with us anymore:-(

all true, except by the end Bellof was faster, denoting his class as well as Senna's, as Bellof was driving a DFV Tyrrel
