  • P.S. mates car did the best 2 wheel burnouts I have ever seen, no mean feat considering wheels n tires on the back were 8" Hotwire mags with 265 Bridgestone Eagers

  • Cont. At the illegal drags we frequented, nothing but something sniffing N.O.S. could come close. Can only imagine how sweet it was to drive the HDT A9X with the rumored 380-400hp. Magic stuff from the Australian cast old red motor 308, Torana and Peter Brock. Immortal legends

  • Back in the late 80's early 90's a mate had a Torana hatch mild 308, cut downe 9" 2.75 ratio LSD and the weakest link the m20 4speed gearbox. He was a apprentice mechanic at the time, n during his college block release ran it up on the college dyno as part of there prac work. The car made about 270hp at the wheels or about 300hp+ equivalent at the flywheel. The car would do 100kph at redline in 1st gear, did the 1/4 at williwbank in low 14s finish line speed 99mph. At the illegal drags we frequ

  • Bloody hell.... On the way down / the descent, he was so so close to the walls, and so fast too, scary to watch. Go Brock!!

  • The very devil of a driver.

  • Finest even 10past2.... lol!

  • u gotta have balls to drive that torana like that, well done Brockie

  • boy was he fast

  • best thing outta aussie since vegemite

im a kiwi just by the way

  • grande!

  • My dream car as a 14 Y.O. Loved it, back when Conrod Stright was a straight!

  • I've seen this car in the flesh, last year! What a monster it is!

  • Peter your a legend and my hero I even named my son after you. Rest in piece!

  • The master at work, pure racing talent...such dominance...

  • Im nearly 50 years old i always remember being glued to the tv over the long weekend in october never missing a minute of bathurst , Mr Brock you always were and allways will be my heroe god bless you and thanks for all the wonderfull memories of watching you and the hdt and reading about you in racing car news in the 1970s , Im getting teary just writing this thanks again Peter Perfect .

  • why do people still call the torana a holden it was and always will be a rebadged opel

  • @BENDOON23 because it was sold here as a Holden & you'd look like an tard saying 'hey check out that Opel Torana!!!'

  • @BENDOON23 The HB Torana was actually a copy of the second gen Vauxhall Viva in England, and not so much the Opel! The latter Torana's especially the LH series had the most Australian design input and don't share that much with the Ascona. The second and third gen Ascona's share design cues with the Camira and early Commodore.

  • @BENDOON23 Not true. The first Torana built was basicaly an HA Vauxhall Viva (English). The next model (HB) was all Aussie built. From there on they had less connection the Vauxhalls (thank god) We would never have had the Hot 202 XU1 or the fire breathing 308 A9X if it had been left to Vauxhall/Opal. Those little Pommey Shit Heaps would never have even made it to Bathurst if GMH had kept sourcing their cars from Britain. Ford and Chrysler would have laughed them off the mountain.

  • that stupid Caltex Chase was built to prevent fatalities on Conrod Straight. It's Caused More Fatalities instead, through mechanical failures right at the turn in...

  • @triciagalinahardy09 Who has died because of the Chase? I can't think of any.

  • @NealeinMI Don Watson, had a brake rotor explode at the fastest point on Conrod Straight at the turn in to the Chase... lost control of the car and jumped the concrete wall. Autopsy found death caused by heart attack, however crash alone was enough to kill him.

  • Like Spookstr, I am a Ford man, but that 05 A9X is a national tressure. How different does Mt Panorama look compared to today! 1970's & 80's touring cars is the era that does it for me. V8 Supercars have lost their way, & it is just not the same.

  • they should retro the toranas with brock limited version

    that would be great!!!

  • foot slipped off the brake pedal yeah yeah sure sure lol

  • Conrod before they put that stupid chicane in = great braking duels. Cars with great big hairy gonads, not like the girls blouse sissy skylines of today.

A racing ledgend at the wheel the likes we will never see again.

    R.I.P. Brocky

  • Im all FORD...but that Torana looks fucking GREAT !!!

  • Those were the days!

  • Tell you what i'm a Ford man but that was an awesome display of man and machine .

  • I would like to see the legends of todays V8 supercars race in cars like these with all the basic setup, I wonder how well they would do, Because that is pure skill.

  • I love the fact that even though this video is 30 years old, the cameras are still in the exact same spot on the track :D

  • Miss you Brocky... What a driver, what a fella....

  • best holden eva made n truely a great driver, still cant match the mighty HO

  • @zex10r what? it took out the lap record on the last lap! where was the falcon?

  • @rbydder , xy gtho wasnt raceing then,n so it should have taken out the lap record, sumthin that weighs a 1000kg lighter n with a worked v8 should be quick around the tight corners but on the straights the clevo hauls em in

  • @rbydder In the pits or parked on the side of the track with a blown motor or tranny or a collapsed front end. Brock was untouchable that day, and his lap record stood for 3 years until he reset it himself again, and only by 2 tenths.

  • @zex10r yeah it can mate a valiant charger 265 6 cylinder smashes a HO ahahah

  • @SuperTamponBandit yeh thats y the charger was multiple touring car winners, yep can surely beat the ho

  • @zex10r Who has died because of the chase?

  • @NealeinMI ???????

  • @zex10r Sorry mate. I hit the reply on the wrong peroson.

  • peter brock walks into a bar

the barman screams "look out, its a zombie!"

  • plotchickens you are the biggest cock head going around i wish i knew who you were id break your fuckin head in

  • come off it mate my joke was hilarious

  • @plotchickens ur a fuckwit mate pull ur fuckin head in

  • ok ok but i mean come on it was at least a little funny

  • @plotchickens not at all funny get a brain in ur fuckin head

  • meh its not THAT bad a joke but whatev he was a great driver

  • Comment removed

  • everyone chek out mi channel Anth231 where there are vids of the HSV clubsport R8 (307) racing at eastern creek with a driver who was taught by peter brock

  • Maybe you should..

  • Torana V8

  • Brock the man!

  • What sort of wheels were they? They almost look like Moonies. Shit that thing had some serious pace down conrod.

  • They ran very nice aluminium wheel covers, designed by Alan Standfield, in Hardies Heroes. They supposedly were better aerodynamically, but I guess not good for cooling so they didn't use them in the race.

  • They were Jongblood's, i think they're a German brand with special covers fitted for brake cooling. And yes, by that stage the A9X's were pulling over 270ks on a hot lap.

  • Not Sure, think they were a "Globe" rim from ROH similar to the Sprintmasters and the more recent "Bathurst Globes" Had the Bathurst Globes on a Commodore...IF anyone knows differently.. just say so, don't be smart and start a freaking World War...The picture I have, its difficult to make out what the rims were on the A9X.

  • I'm so happy my parents named me Brock after Peter Brock's name. :D

    R.I.P. My Idol

  • God Rest His Soul, Australia's Finnest !

    R.I.P. Brocky, You are A Legend !!

  • king of the mountain king of the lion god bless you brock you wont be matched

  • that is fantastic...that thing looks good across the top...

  • Awsome Sound :)

  • Yeah, what a beautiful car.

  • Yawn. Who's name is at the top of the page?

  • Wet shoes? He could out drive any body today with his wellies full of water. Bloody legend!!!

  • Holden 308 revving to 700rpm. Is there a a sweeter sound......

  • Yes, one that revs to 7000 (seven thousand) rpm. However, not as tough sounding as DJ's Greens Tuf XE 351!!!

  • that was a 20.5, id he doesnt fuck the Cutting= 19.5

  • conrod straight without the chase hahaha how awsome

  • Great vid :-)

  • mallamoozoo F1 driver HAHAHA. Playstation is not counted. ITS TIME TO WAKE UP.

  • What all you F1 crazies need to understand is that it isn't how fast you can go.....but can ya stop that fucka!

1969 xw gt had smaller disc rotares than the Peugeot 440, 9 years it's senior. You see down under 40 years ago it was wild life or trees that were used for bracking, who needed fucking big brakes......european fags!

  • 1. "production"? What the fuck is production? Touring cars are shit - barely any faster than street cars. F1 laps a touring car within 3 laps! - 2o times in 60 laps!

    2. 70's touring cars were even slower - a go-kart is even faster. (actually go-karts are quite fast. But F1 is lightyears faster than even that.

    3. "if" he went to F1? Then why didn't he? Cos he knows he woulda got his ass kicked - like Craig Lowndes who finished last in F3000 while team-mate Montoya won it!

  • Would like to see an F1 go across the top at mount panorama!

They would want some good advertising under the car, because thats all you would see as it flipped onto its head!

  • Flipped? What? Do you realize how much downforce those wings generate - enough to hold the car upside down on the ceiling of a tunnel! So they most certainly would not flip - they have enormous grip. An F1 car qualifying at Bathurst would do a 1:20 - 45 seconds faster than Supercar PER LAP! PER LAP! A supercar would be approaching Skyline as F1 crossed the finish line!

  • You have answered your own questions matey! You are saying it is impossible to flip an F1 because of what??? how safe they are, they can drive upside down in a tunnel, well if thats the case, fuck even I could drive one!

  • I dont know how your logic process works to conclude that - but I can tell you the wings simply elevate the level of the performance envelope - instead of flying off the road at 140kph it means the car flies off the road at 280kph - so the drivers take the F1 cars to 280kph - in both cases they're on the limit - but in F1 its twice as fast.

  • Mall, I have checked out your favourites and it's Senna Senna Senna...I'm not going to argue with you pashion for F1 Your knowledge or your admiration for Ayrton. He was an absolute master. Just don't compare F1 to Touring, you know yourself there is no comparison! But why bag others for what they love!

  • Because I am sick of Australians taking the easy option and then patting themselves on the back for it.

If Aussies were serious they would step up to the plate with the big boys!

I tried to make F1 and failed (like every Aussie but Webber for 25 years). But i at least drove an F1 car. After I failed I didn't even consider having a crack at touring cars - they are just too lame. I'd rather go fishing. But at least I aimed for the top and didn't settle for being a big fish in a small pond!

  • Thats right Mall. One Aussie in 25 years has made the Elite grade in F1.

How do you rate "what is taking the easy option". You say you failed, I say failure is not to attempt! But what are the other categories that Aussies failed? Does Craig Lowndes classify a failure to you because he didn't cut it at a higher level. Or do we classify him as a hero for continueing what he loves at the best level of his ability. Please don't use Senna and Jordan and Ali and Beckham as gauges for success.

  • If everyone had your perspective I wouldn't have bothered arcing up - but I have heard so many idiots claiming V8 supercar drivers are as good as F1 drivers - i can't stand by and abide such blatant moronic idiocy.

Well done to you for realizing Senna and Ali and Pele are a league beyond!

  • dw man im aussie and v8 supercars are not in the same class as f1. f1 is faster and more expensive. our drivers r good but f1 is better. look at webber he sucks but he needs a better team i think

  • F1 is for latte drinking poofs who drive Renaults around during the day.

  • huh?

right. F1 is great (some of the time). V8's and f1's are great. and no, i dont drive a renault and i fucking hate latte/tea/coffee

  • I often consider who is the greatest of all leagues. We can't rate it without bias! If stats are the gauge for considering the elite amoung elite then do the stats. Don Bradman smashes all in his path. Whether you love hate or don't understand his game, the next best of his peers was 40% below him and then a rare group below that. Even today where all other fields have been overhauled , no-one has touched him. Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Schuie, Lewis, Senna, Ali, Even that yank swimmer.

  • Mall, arcing up on people who love and admire a hero to them, is like hanging shit on people for having sugar in their coffee!

Embrass the thoughts of even the most dosile of people and watch them listen as you quietly inlighten them with those glorious facts.....¡

fuck I should be a politcian!!!!!

  • Mall, arcing up on people who love and admire a hero to them, is like hanging shit on people for having sugar in their coffee!

Embrass the thoughts of even the most dosile of people and watch them listen as you quietly inlighten them with those glorious facts.....¡

fuck I should be a politician!!!!!

  • All i'm reading on hear is how good F1 is, which i am in no way denying, but if you don't like V8 supercars / Group A / Touring Cars then why are you watching this. Don't watch videos just so you can bag them out, it's called being a troll and it's bullshit. You say to tried for F1?? What? What were you driving prior? Did you come up through F3000 in europe?

  • No I raced karts and F.Ford in Australia and was as good as anyone - Webber, Ambrose, Tander etc. But while they had parents with deep pockets I didn't. I couldn't pay $150,ooo for a full season of F.Ford - just occasional races. As I always wanted to see if I could drive an F1 car I paid $5000 to have a drive one day. In 15 laps I was only a few seconds off their F1 driver's pace.

Unfortunately no-one gave a shit and that was the end of my career. But I answered my question - I could do it!

  • Aww boo who :( tool!

  • How about a cup of cement? harden up boy!

  • mate those cars practicly drive them selves paddles to change gears, massive areo kits, launch control, half the drivers in the field wouldn't be able to race with a clutch or no wings, jack brabbham had the best idea geive a stick and get rid of the wings.

  • Bullshit - the F1 drivers all came through F.Ford and F3 - they can all use manual gearboxes fine! F1 changes from 7th to 1st in 2.5 seconds! Timing the shifts needs far more skill than supercars liesurely amble through 3 gears in 4 seconds - thats a Sunday drive compared to the warp speed of F1!

  • MALL we all appreciate how amazing F1 drivers are. The two variations are as different as cricket is to baseball. But seriously you are trying to compare. Alan Jones was no where as near successful in touring cars as he was in F1. Come up with all the excuses you can but the bottom line is F1 drivers buy into the game and Touring car drivers earn it. Jones was pretty ordinary in V8's but a world champion in F1. Wayne Gardiner was pretty crap at v8's aswell.

  • And Lowndes was last in F3000 while his team-mate in the same car (Juan Pablo Montoya) won it! So obviously Lowndes couldn't drive at the World Class level. (AJ was over the hill when he went to touring cars - if he'd gone back to F1 at the same time he would've been 4 seconds a lap off his former speed.)

  • IN answer to the question of how fast, well it depends on what configoration the car was in remmber these cars were set up diffently for different tracks, gearboxes diffs tune of motor, but I have it on very good authority that 11 second quater mile time and nearly 300kph if there is enough runup, from my very rusty memory he was doing 260 kph on conrod that year.

  • awsome car, awsome driver

  • everyone's a critic

  • Fair enough, but off the track he wasn't the same guy.

  • fukn a!!

  • not you again fuckhead that little box of resin sure makes your mum handle better and but shes heaps louder lol and yes bitch it was the fastest car back then now piss off and grow a penis you vagina

  • Real intelligent comment, dumbfuck.

  • Yes, best car, budget, but he was definitely brilliant. Even with that budget, the HDT were nowhere at Bathurst in '75 '76 '77, when Brock was a privateer. In British 'Motorsport' magazine 2005, 50 journalists, incl one Australian, voted him the second best touring car driver ever. He was very quick, easy on a car, and reinvented the muscle car Australia. His work for the community saw him remembered as bigger than the sport. The polariser was a nervous breakdown in public, but who cares?

  • I shagged Peter Brocks neice, many many times!!! I used to drive her crazy

  • awesome,truely awesome.brockyz da MAN

  • Does anyone know the quarter mile time and speed for this great classic.

These cars do 0-100kph in what time?

What is the top speed of this car at Bathurst?

  • Can someone please answer my question.

Does anyone know the quarter mile time and speed for this great classic.

These cars do 0-100kph in what time?

What is the top speed of this car at Bathurst?

  • Possibly mid 12 sec for 1/4 mile, maybe under 5 secs to 100 km/h. Top speed on Conrod, maybe 255 km/h.

  • I do believe that mid 12 sec for 1/4 mile, and under 5 secs to 100km/h sounds correct, but I was just wondering how you arrived at that.

In my Street Commodores mag Issue 17, in an article on a supercharged commodore vs ss producing 333kW they claim it can do 0-400m in 12.7secs @ 184km/h & 0-100km/h in 4.84 secs.

So maybe 0-100km/h in between 4.5 to 4.7 secs and 1/4 mile in 12.5secs @ 190km/h it might be. This race car is 400hp as I have found on Bowdens own website.

    I think 270km/h max.

  • Hmmm, t'was just an educated guess. I think you're right, 270 is probably accurate. The '82 Group C Commodore did mid 11's, so maybe the A9/X is 0.5 off? Funny, I was at the track on that day (Saturday)! I was 8 years old. And, what a freak, breaking the lap record on the last lap, one of the most audacious moves in motorsport history. He was so smooth, easy on the car, never punted anyone off. He didn't get a full time drive, until he was 28. If he went to Europe as a young man, who knows?

  • he was the greatest and NO ONE is even close to being as fast&clever as he was but he was 61 and behind the wheel of that daytona coupe with a 500odd hp v8 in slippery conditions- it was a simple case of age catching up with him and one last thing- GO THE FUCKING HOLDENS, love em to bits

  • r.i.p brocky the best supercar driver i reckon miss you never forgotten

  • jhqw7u676yfw143t Pull your fukn head in you looser!!! your probably an arse licking FORD FAIRY!!

  • primrose;

jhqw7u676yfw143t does not speak for Ford fans. So dont assume he supports ford. I doubt he supports any motorsport.

I'm a Ford fan, and like all Ford fans - have huge respect for Brocky - He was the greatest drivers we've seen in Australia.

There was a cruise held by a few Ford car clubs; and sold many brocky bumper stickers for the occasion. Its not a matter of Ford Vs Holden; its honouring a legend that is Brocky.

  • Peter Brock died in that WA rally simply because he was too tired. He'd just flown back from the UK to Melbourne, and got on another plane to go to Perth. Peter didn't even get a chance to sight the stage. Most drivers go over the course upto three times before competition starts. My point being; Peter Brock should not have competed, he was simply too tired.

  • The days of true Conrod Straight without Caltex Chase. Real good stuff!

  • what's with the wheels on that thing?? did the car have hubcaps on the wheels?? it spoils the look of the car, i reckon.

  • They were special wheels designed by Alna Stanfield to help air flow to the brakes from memory. They did not run them in the race.

  • yer 20 dollar hubcaps frm kmart i think just like ur ones on ur vl lol

  • Win by 6 laps?

    Comon'

  • Yep 6 laps, and he set the lap record on the last lap.

  • Bit one sided?

  • great footage, awesome to have him talking bout the lap

  • how lovely does that 308 motor sound??? they built awsome machinery back then. i don't think that many euro drivers would want to take the risk of driving around a circut with hardly any concrete, especially conrod. 8 years later, mike burgmann was killed when he went off the road, snapped a wire fence, and hit a tyre barrier at about 265km/h, there's no chance of anyone surviving a crash like that.

  • so your saying that peter brock wasn't good enough in the moder cars these days??? he nearly won that race in 1997 (in the days when technology started to take over), driving the VS HRT commodore, but on lap 52, his co-driver, mark skaife, was accelerating up mountain straight, when a backfire went back up the exhaust, and burned out out all the electronics, that's what i was told.

  • Is included in the top 20 greatest drivers of all time, dipshit. Do better and back-up your claims.

  • Dude, he won this race 9 TIMES.

He also won the Bathurst 24hr in 2004. Won Sandown 500 9 times, Aust Rallycross champion, 5 times ATCC champion, 1979 Round Aust Rally winner, driven at Spa and Le Mans (24hr). The list goes on. Many of your 'great european and american drivers' have not even driven on this track. And the one's that did 'SH*T THEMSELVES'

  • it was probably a lack of rear grip, and too much speed carried into that corner that caused the crash, and he probably didn't have the grip that he thought should have been there.

  • call ur self an aussie jhqw7u67yfw143t ur a fukin disgrace karmas gunna sort ur lame old ass out fukwit

  • Total nonsense. You forget at Bathurst we had John Fitzpatrick, Win Percy, Jackie Ickx, Derek Bell, Gerry Marshall, Dieter Glemser, Henri Pescarolo, Dieter Quester, Patrick Nève, even Stirling Moss . Then you had Satoru Nakajima, Johnny Rutherford, Hiroshi Fushida, Sam Posey, etc etc and I haven't even mentioned 1987 WTC. All of them had their arses kicked by "burn boy". Several of the above mentioned were F1 drivers. And by your searing logic I guess Jim Clark was a crap driver too.

  • i reckon that brocky would still have won the 1980 race if he kept racing in the A9X, because it was so much quicker at bathurst, because he said in the UNIQUE CARS magazine a few years ago "i raced commodores in the early 80's and the torana was so much quicker and better" i agreed with him when he said that.

  • Brocky did win in 1980. His win record; '72,'75,'78,'79,'80,'82,'83,'84,'87.

  • driving the commodore or the torana, either way, he still would have won bathurst in 1980. perhaps not by 6 laps, but probably by a reasonable gap.

  • thats it it was holden all the way back in those days, even though it took a few years of development to get the 308 oil system running right the finished product was the a9x which finished 7 laps ahead of 2nd (allan grices a9x) and breaking lap record on last lap

  • Awesome, he made a big mistake at the cutting but still got pole position, it just shows how much quicker he was than everyone else to get away with that.

  • im 1 of the luckiest people around. in '97', when i woz 15, i got a hotlap with brocky at bathurst in his V8 supercar, sum people don't believe it, but im not talking bullshit. i'll tell you wot, i almost creamed my pants harf way down conrod. unlike most drivers, brocky was actually trying to put down sum good lap times for me, and afta a few laps, we went into the pits and i was like "can we go again?" that's the most fun i'll ever have, and nuthing since then, has been betta than that

  • i mean, nuthing* has been betta than that

  • R.I.P BROCKY, i wasnt around to see his glorious years in the torries but nonetheless HE is a LEGEND.

A9X one of the greatest Holdens ever made. and to brani123, I've noticed that Skaife doesnt like signing autographs really pisses me off too he is my favourite driver. Did get him to sign my hat once though.

  • RIP BROCKY !!!! the boys racing today should take a leaf out of your book!!! i once watched you sign autografts for hours at babagallo race way!!!! you didn't stop till everyone had one!!!!! that day scafie couldn't evan sign my shirt!!! i yelled out brocky wouldn't of done that!!!! every one pissed them selfs!!!!

  • R.I.P BROCKY

  • oh yea

  • 00.27 how much hurt was that 308 in, fuckin great sound, what about the flicks across the top 1.11 to 1.34 that's real driving. LEGEND!! GREAT CLIP the top

  • Yes 1.11 to 1.34 were the slippery parts of the track.

  • The Mighty A9X Good On'Ya Brocky

  • Thats still one of the best looking cars ever at Bathurst & great to see footage of the original layout of the track. No stupid chicane.

  • Was just 7yrs old when I whatched that race, Ahh thank you for the memories.

  • Pre Caltex Chase. Now that was pure Conrod. Awsome stuff.

Just old enough to remember that car.

  • What an awesome piece of muscle car, unbeatable!!

  • Could anyone tell me the name of the track ?

  • Mount Panorama

  • Thank you !

  • mighty A9X ! love it

  • Those were the days. Times when Holden & Ford mixed it with the likes of Chevrolet, Nissan & Mazda for outright glory. Group C was the best days.

  • i know, the group C era was the HOLDEN era and brock's era as well

  • fuckin unbelivable

  • I'm a Chrysler man but out of all the cars brock drove this one is my favourite and it sounds absolutley awesome and just looks like it is at one with the road.

  • Great stuff and he won the race by six laps that year, lead every lap, untouchable.

  • did he even fall behind when he took a pit stop?

  • And the fastest lap on the LAST lap to boot.

  • far out, trees on conrod straight, imagine u hit that

  • i know, that reminds me of the crash that mike burgmann had on conrod, he slammed into a tyre barrier at 268km/h and he was killed instantly. imagine goin in a V8 supercar on the original conrod straight, they wouldn't last long because of how long u stay on the rev limiter, and if u hit a tree or if u go off the track, ur fucked, because once a slide gets onto the grass at that speed, there's not much u can do, that's what it sed in the 1986 bathurst book
