Hey there.. It does get hot on the outside... but you can touch it, if you don't mind some heat.. but if you grab the plates on the side when its clamped down.. it will burn you.. but its a really good incvestment!! they are amazing!!.. right now ulta has them on sale for $79.00.. great price!

don't worry.. it took me so long to figure out how to do it!.. im not sure if this will help. but the video doesn't have audio and easier to understand what im doing, so i have re-uploaded it with audio.. go check it out. its in the videos response secition!! and don't give up!!

My hair is Dry.. and the only thing that i've sprayed on it is the CHI 44 iron gurad. that is all.. and no i don't use gel..
