I agree, the guitar was too loud but from what I could hear your voice is excellent. My only other comment is too loosen up and let your hand just fall on the strings to soften the sound. All in all nice job. Really nice voice.
In all honesty - many people have commented about how ear piercing the original singer's voice is... this, on the other hand, is fantastically pleasant.

I have the exact same guitar. haha and it gets really loud. for this id use just my thumb or finger pick it if you can.
