The turbidity maximum is a loop of suspended sediment in a mixed estuary (the tidal currents don't allow the sediment to settle). The TB can tarvel up and down the estuary as the tide floods and ebbs. If you can get a copy of my Coastal Systems book (from your library?), it's explained in more detail in Chapter 3.
