Also carbon is very durable.... Ive totalled an aluminum frame in a crit.... Dont ask..... And my madone has survived 1 crash.... no cracks nothing its good.... The key is to avoid crashes.... That means staying away from CAT 9 newbs and not being a dumbass when racing..... carbon is strong and light and unless you weigh 50000 lbs very durable...
Nice dork disc and carbon is most expensive and lightest and ive found tiagra is better than ultegra and 105..... Also di2 is heavy as shit....and also I love campy now
just made a vid of my Masi, check out my vid, i didnt know it was chro mo steel when i bought it. its soooo smooth and nimble, and looks unbeievable, i paid 1350.00 and it is 20 lbs, got the 105s too. check it out. Masi is killer dude.
Yea carbon fiber at least you have the warranty but I like the aluminum haha see I bought trek aluminum with a carbon fork the fork had scratches so I put clear nail polish to protect it from absorbing water n the top Tube has a dent guess from the last owner idk but I love it plus I've been upgrading parts so it's great bike I say man go with you want n get a life time warranty lol. I can't cause I bought it off a friend
if ur last carbon fork broke when it crashed it was probably a really crap composite, if u want to get the most for ur money look into the persentages of the composites and you will prob find one that fits ur price range and if u cnt afford the top notch stuff there is no point getting it as it will weigh more than cheaper materials even steel.
How are you getting a CAAD9 5 for $900? I just bought the CAAD9 7 for $979. They are ordering it now in my size so I have only made a down payment and will get it in a few days but would love to pay a more reasonable price like $800.
Sorry just had to say that- hate treks- anyways how can the carbon frames break easily- what kind of bike was it? Hope you had warranty on that thing. k anyways i like the 1 on top its pretty slick :)
Carbon fiber is a material consisting of extremely thin fibers about 0.0050.010 mm in diameter and composed mostly of carbon atoms. The carbon atoms are bonded together in microscopic crystals that are more or less aligned parallel to the long axis of the fiber. The crystal alignment makes the fiber very strong for its size, but if you have an impact hard enough on the frame, fork or any other carbon piece, it can crack. My frame is aluminum, the only piece that cracked was the fork.
maybe try taping/wrapping the fork for 1) better absorbtion 2) better support so it dont crack as easily 3) make it look pretty? just some suggestions. anyways Trek & Ascent are 2 brands to avoid. u could also try assembling ur own bike. that way u get better custom build.
I have tried and ridden many types of frames. i started with steel frame. then i went racing and thus, a light bike is needed. i no longer race , and if i'm going to buy a new bike, i think i'm going to go with a steel bike again. it is heavy i know, but it will give you a very joyful ride. that is if you are not racing. good luck.
Treks are nice but seriously overpriced. Local shop here has a aluminum frame Trek 2.3 with carbon fork with mixed Shimano Tiagra-105 compontent (same as mine) but are asking $1,599.99. My KHS weights less, same components for $950.00. Treks only down fall is that they pump MILLIONS into advertising they have to charge more for their product to make profit.
