Steven Tyler said that when he first saw them in '69 they played the first album and the crowd wouldn't let them leave the stage, so they played a bunch of Elvis and other 50's songs.
Just in case anybody cares, this was from the 09/04/70 show at the LA Forum. It's on an old LP bootleg of the same name and the entire album was just awesome. Led Zeppelin were the biggest fans of early, true Rock & Roll music. Almost always, they played a bunch of those old songs-and then still managed to fit in all the Zeppelin songs everybody wanted to hear. I saw them live at MSG in 1977 and it was a life-changing event for me. Led Zeppelin rules...
Everyone needs to stop bitching. Did anyone bitch when elvis copied blue suede shoes? No he made it his own. Zepplin owned this song, they were most likely having fun. Who cares what you haters think? Clearly the audiance loved it

@ERNESTOROCK Imbecile. They played it well FOR THEIR STYLE. But their version doesn't capture the true feel of the song. It just wasn't written with the intention of being played with distortion and said things. It is obviously an oldies song, let's keep it that way. Thanks for downing my opinion, bastard :D
@mcbane12 decent sounding audience tape. I hear the LA FORUM was easy to bootleg because of the open bathroom window. I think I may have a recording of all the zep covers, you read about them in HAMMER OF THE GODS, someone should make a comp. I like that robert is singing low.
@erasedbythesun How can you start your sentence saying "fuck zeppelin" and then say you love all of their originals. Obviously music is an opinion so im not gonna argue your opinion. I will argue that they cant play the blues. They may have taken old blues songs and put their own twist on them but to say they cant play the blues and to "fuck them" because of it is senseless. I Can't Quit You Babe is textbook blues. Page can play anything he wants to, and compete with the best no matter the style
@scarredman42 Doing something bluesy is not playing the blues. Think of it like this. When you dress up like a woman, like you like to do, you’re doing something girly, but you’re not a real girl.

@Jacobrester I hate when people find a version of a song older than Zepp's version and automatically assume that person wrote it. i saw him live in 75, and his voice didn't impress me. page was a master in the studio.he dressed up plant's voice a lot.peter wolf of j geils was a much better frontman, also bob "the bear" hite of canned heat.plant was a poser with a sock in his pants.
if yoiu're a frontman, by definition, you are a poser. i saw an internet poll that listed elvis as the greatest front man. they said he had no band, nuts to that i say, he had the best musicians in the world, james burton(ricky nelson), jerry scheff(doors bassist in studio)glen d hardin(emmy lou harris) ronnie tutt(drummer par excellence)jd sumner(lowest bass singer of all time). plant idolized elvis.plant at least acknowledges rock and roll roots. he loved moby grape and skip spence
I agree with you completly, but I think your being too much a purist. Think of Ferreri, sure Page was the engine but the body (Plant) sure does make it look good. P.S. Bonham would be the big fat tires and JPJ the transmission lol.
i'm an old fart who loves the 50s 60s 70s, and the great stuff that came before. 20s dixieland jazz, delta blues. and zep encompassed all those styles. i sometimes pick on zep and many of their fans take them(the band) and themselves too seriously. zep had fun and many times couldn't pull it off live, but rock and roll doesn't have to be perfect. energy and feel are more important than technique. no one ever sounded like them.plant would be amused at our discussions. he's a country singer now!!
Good one. LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL was one of the first, best Zep concert bootleg recordings in circulation back in the '70's, and it still rocks. Would I have loved to hear a soundboard recording of this show! But the concert is captured in its entirety on this audience recording, and it's excellent. Fats Domino's "Blueberry Hill" is the final number of the evening. This version is great, and Jimmy lays down a perfect guitar solo. And Robert's mixed vocal style is great, too. Thank you!
@DDEENY jimmy page knew all that 50s rock. he just gushes when someone says ricky nelson or james burton. heard he used to carry a box ricky nelson 45s on tour. he loves fats, elvis, jerry lee, carl perkins, and the great 50s rockers
I love this. I wasn't a real huge zepplin but after hearing Robert plant do this. I lve them. ANy rock and roll singer that can a song like this is amazing. I read that he met Elvis and Zepplin was quiet so Elvis was about to leave when Robert plant started singing "Love me". Then I read that Elvis always had a seat waiting for one of his shows. Thats pretty cool i think
This is a totally unbelievable version of this song. How Robert Plant tears it up when he does half way through is just amazing. Wish I'd have been able to be at a concert, but alas, born in 1973...
Put this song on for somebody and don't tell them who it is and see if they can guess....then listen to Robert rip into it at 1:39. It's just such a shame how ungracefully he has aged and that it looks as if no tour will ever materialize.
They met a few times but they didn't party regularly. Led Zeppelin, especially Robert Plant, loved Elvis and Robert Plant still sings Elvis' praises today.
Elvis agreed to meet after a little kid he had adopted as a penpal during his time in the army wrote him that his favorite band was Led Zeppelin. Apparently Elvis was a little wary of it, but then Plant sung the opening verse to "Love me" (Treat me like a fool...) and they hit it off and talked for hours to the chagrin of Memphis Mafia.
where can I find these rare recordings ?

My favorite Fats Domino song. L.Z. did a great version.

Have you ever heard Blue Monday? Nothing beats that song. That shit is just as intense as it gets.

Pretty cool, Led doing this one. They were really good.

i like the music but low notes aren't exactly plants strong point, he should've just sang it in his style like he does elvis songs

So I guess you can sing Fats Domino or Elvis? Or would your voice just crack and squeal because you're an immature asshole?

Even Elvis respected them...they partied with him on occasions...Jimmy called him the King...
zeppelinwoman 2 years ago 8
They met a few times but they didn't party regularly. Led Zeppelin, especially Robert Plant, loved Elvis and Robert Plant still sings Elvis' praises today.
Elvis agreed to meet after a little kid he had adopted as a penpal during his time in the army wrote him that his favorite band was Led Zeppelin. Apparently Elvis was a little wary of it, but then Plant sung the opening verse to "Love me" (Treat me like a fool...) and they hit it off and talked for hours to the chagrin of Memphis Mafia.
