Don't think America was awesome back then, since well, most, if not all colonies were crap back then, but yeah, if you compare with all the other colonized countrys, like Brazil, Mexico and others, I belive America was the one with better fundations. And don't forget that the native americans also helped a lot in the independence. And also, France do needed a lot of help on WW2, and the US helped a lot not only France, but most of Europe.
