The funny thing is the players that don't like Splawn amps tend to prefer amps that I think sound awful. The tone is great here....much better than any overpriced Quadriple Rectified Powerschall.
I purchased the QR based on your clips, which I absolutely love. I purchased the Splawn 4x12 cab too. When I got it, my experience was that it was a very compressed tone -- I couldn't sell it fast enough. The eq controls did very little to affect tone. Bottom line -- you have to play it yourself and then judge. I found it unremarkable. Learned my lesson. Play or pay. Nice clips, nevertheless.
Was the amp working properly? My Quick Rod will blow away anything that I have ever played in my 30 years of playing. Were you looking for more of a Fender type sound? I hope you find the amp you are looking for. I thank the Lord for my Quick Rod with every note.
Who knows. It didn't sound like your clips, I can tell you that. It was dark and compressed. The harmonics were flat. EQ controls did almost nothing. I used a charvel, a les paul and a strat. Like I said -- had to dump it. Was upset and disappointed. Are you running straight in? Going to try the Bogner XTC and the Roccaforte Jenelle. I'll let you know.

I love my quick rod, best amp I've ever played just my opinion

I wish you the best of luck amp hunting. I play Fender Malmsteen strats through a Splawn Quick Rod and I love the tones that I am getting with my QR.

I have to mention also, as I heard the NAMM 2008 Randy Rhoads head, it doesnt touch this amp. Randy would have played Splawn if he was alive.

Thanks,the amp was at gig volume,about 9 o'clock but with a volume pedal in the loop to keep it down for indoors..
