  • I just burned my guitar!

  • My brother just sent this. So nice. Really really nice.

  • Gandalf on guitar!! :D

  • This sounds absolutely sensational in 240p

    0.0 Guthrie's the man.

  • 56 Dislikes? Why? Because he is not playing 3 notes over and over? Not all blues is slow.

  • His hand looks like a Spider!

  • Me gusta.

    @_@

  • I hate when people try to undermine this style of playing by saying its mindless wanking. It sounds damn good, and If you ask me there's some good groove and playful emotion going on in his playing. To say its "emotionless" just makes a person sound like an elitist who thinks their favourite style is the be all end all.

  • @ywed14 I agree. I think some players are offended when other players play with intensity. This solo has great 'blues' riffs and feel, but oh, how dare he show some skill and express ideas that are not traditional blues,,,, they fit. Geeez man, play a riff faster than an eighth note and the music police and the trolls from hell attack from all directions.

  • OMG....Im thinking this is actually faster than a bullet..?!

  • Wow that was exact 3.003.991 Notes played! Clever.

  • Back to square one again. THANKS GUTHRIE!!

  • oh man, impressive

  • Fret wanking

  • Amazing! This opened a whole new world for my guitar playing!

Also, please check out my track in the video responses, or on my profile...

  • i want his tone!!!!!

  • NAKED ASS.THAT WAS FN HOT!

  • oh my guthrie... love to near u... to hear long..

  • ****

  • How is it I JUST heard about this guy?!!!!! Thank god for youtube!!!

  • he is out of tempo.. :P

  • "hey guys i just solved pie on guitar"

  • fuck yes. your style is fucking impeccable!

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • Magic fingers,i want me some.

  • Are those Dimebag Darrel Signature face expressions? ;p))))))))))))))))))))))

    I think so.....

Great chops Guthrie!!!! Smoker for sure!

  • OMG YOU'RE SO FUCKING GOOD! I wish I could play like this ...\

  • People say shredders dont feel the music...

    They're wrong

  • @bjparhamguitars123 I wouldn't really put Guthrie in the 'shredder' category tbh, He's just a player, and an astonishingly good one at that!

  • does anyone know WHERE this was recorded?

  • @milkandsugah

It was recorded in Jan Cyrka's studio in London.

  • Comment removed

  • @milkandsugah In hell.

  • Damn, how can he be so accurate! He finishes the phrases right on time, EVERY TIME!

  • Este gajo, até faz a "guitarra" parecer fácil!

  • its called bullet blues because thats the name of the backing track.

  • @element1988 Oh I see

  • call it what you want but this guy is a Master and if you Dare to slay a Master then bring what you have and he will Defeat you..................period get it...........

  • Blues has a certain feeling. Not one kind of feeling, but something special you can feel in B.B. King, Muddy Waters, SRV, Chris Duarte, Jeff Healy, etc.

They play different, but they got that feeling.

This video has nothing to do with such feeling. It's a great exercise and nice mix of styles, but it has no blues feeling, at least for me. That's all I wanted to say when I said it isn't blues.

  • @iivan1966 Maybe because this song have several arpeggios so you don't feel it's blues, it is indeed rare in blues to use arpeggio but however it's still in blues scale. This song is not jazz either, because in jazz there's combination of playing inside and outside chord, which is none in this song. If you don't feel that this song don't have bluesy melody then it's okay, it's your opinion and me too just saying my opinion.

  • @AlternativeBT: Yeah, I didn't say melodically it's not bluesy... it's about a certain feeling, you know... that kind of typical "blues feeling".

Anyway, it's an impressive performance, whatever we call it... :)

  • its my opinion, i think steve vai is a genius, guthrie's ok but he was out of tune in this song, if people dont like it well to fukin bad.

  • I've never heard Steve Vai play a bluesy lick over a blues like progression, and that on top of him not coming up with anything really new in the last decade is starting to make him suck,Guthrie rocks!

  • steve vai makes this guy look like a beginner.

  • @zola116 Troll.

  • @zola116 this guy makes steve looks like he is an untalented musician.

  • @zola116 LOL!!!!! steve vai sucks BBD

  • i would'nt bother trying to tab that anyone nobody else on the planet could play it.

  • OK.... so maybe this dude is a bit better than me... but I am working on it .... :-)

  • 2:07 is the tastiest lick I've heard in a long time! Guthrie *really* knows how to superimpose tonalities over each other!

  • @Weewokk Best part of the "song" right??? Awesome player. Awesome musician.

  • @mrbig71014 You don't know how happy I was that you put "song" and not just song! Yeah, he's my favourite guitarist, ever since I saw him play at Music Live at the NEC/NIA (can't remember which one) a few years ago. Bought Erotic Cakes straight after - even got him to sign it! He's such a humble guy, which just makes his incredible talent all the better.

  • But can he pat his head and rub his tummy at the same time I wonder!

  • entertaining...but 1 note can sometimes be so much more than 1000...especially if it's the blues we're talking about..it is the "blues" right?

  • this guy and shawn lane are the best outside players i think.

  • Well, Impressive.... but I think, it's not really blues...

  • @iivan1966 its just the name. im not sure he meant thats the genre

  • @iivan1966 I think that's why it's called "Bullet" Blues, as fast as a machine gun firing tons of bullets per second hahahahahahahahaha

  • @iivan1966 hes mostly playing a blues scale

  • @iivan1966 Actually, it is. The chord progression is a 12-bar blues.

  • @iivan1966 do you think blues only use a box of pentatonic scale all over the song? no, you can use chromatic and play follow the chord changes and it still blues. Listen Delta blues and Jimi Hendrix.

  • @iivan1966 Yes it is.

  • @Guitareben

No, it isn't. It's a very nice shredding using blues like scales and some blues style licks, but it has nothing to do with the essence and soul of the blues.

It's an fancy exercise played using some blues phrases.

  • @iivan1966 His solo ain't like other blues players no. The track is still pretty bluesy though. I mean, it uses THE blues progression >.>

  • @Guitareben

Ok, from that point of view (technically) it is...

  • @iivan1966 :D But your right, the solo is much more fusion :D All good though :D

  • @Guitareben fusion with what? it's blues licks with funk rhytm. funk and blues have same melody, only the rhytm is different.

  • @AlternativeBT The solo :) It's go more fusion influence than blues :D (As in, the ACTUAL solo, the backing track is a blues one :) )

  • @iivan1966 "bullet blues", not said "blues"

  • @leorequiem LOL... you found the most ridiculous argument, congrats! :)

  • @iivan1966 well he is playing over blues modes fairly quickly, so i'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and guess that is why they call it a BULLET blues jam.

  • @iivan1966 it's bullet blues, not blues.

  • @milkandsugah

Well, then you found a new music genre... :)

  • @iivan1966 Well He is using blues pentatonics and If you pay attention you can catch the style :)

  • @iivan1966 the progression is one of a blues

  • @iivan1966 it is classic 12 bar blues

  • @iivan1966 blues doesnt mean sound and mostly bends.. thats just wat ur used to

  • @iivan1966 its fusion blues thats why is so active and stuff but as a guitar player i can really distinguise the pentatonic blues scale :)

  • @iivan1966 look at his facial expressions. Its the blues alright

  • @iivan1966 Listen to the progression

  • @iivan1966 it's motherfucking goddamn mind-blowing blues shit evolved

  • @iivan1966 It's just the backtrack name, that's all..

  • @Oblivion104 Actually, just listened to it, here are the chords. 4 bars B7, 2 bars E7, 2 bars B7, 1 bar F#7, 1 bar E7, 2 bars B7. Ok class, what kind of progression? Thats right a 'typical' 12 bar blues with a rock beat. Plus, (not directing this to you Oblivion) 'LISTEN' he's playing 'blues' riffs over the change. Ya, he's shredding too, but playing real blues riffs as well. Sounds damm good in my opinion, but some blues lovers dont like it, oh well.

  • the only bad thing is 240P

  • WOW!! Ummm, WOW!

  • G1...

  • ok i will sell my guitar and do gardening....amazing player.,i used to love greg howe but now he is doing rare stuff.go guthrie go...

  • Tight,, but lame.

  • why isn't this guy the most famous person in existence yet?

  • @Gettinlucky17 You just a kid apparently.. I just said my opinion ...

  • fuck me, when im impro over some tracks my notes sound like boring piece of crap, how the fuck Guthrie is playing so much notes and every of them sound like eargasm to me!?

  • fuck you for posting...im gonna burn my guitar

  • Wow! Only intelligent people can be found here (=

  • Nice shred

  • i would have sex with a tiger to have a tiger striped guitar

  • @kitplayer01 Its worth the fuck!

  • THE NEXT GOD!!!

  • true fretboard mastery =]

  • Hahaha not to hate but he has the worst case of guitar face I've ever seen!

  • @lackthereof1783 Have you seen Alex Hutchings that man I swear looks like the god father when he plays guitar...just with more hair

  • this website is trying to sell backing tracks? who the fuck gives a shit about the backtrack, listen to what guthrie is playing!

  • Idk how can somebody dislike this...the best guitarist alive

  • Comment removed

  • Anyone bought those tabs yet then? ;)

  • Guthrie is God

  • THE DIS LIKES ARE THE FOLKES WHO THINK THEY CAN PLAY ANYTHING THEN REALIZED THEIR AT A WAY LOWER LEVEL THAN THIS

  • @ryanw1pool

To be honest, I think that applies to the likes too though...

  • I have watched ALOT of guitar instrumental videos. This one blew me away, so much uniqueness. Great great display of feeling on a guitar.

  • Vai and Satriani are great. But they bore me. This is more interesting. Congrats Guthrie, you made a guitar shred instrumental album that doesn't completely bore me. You and Tosin Abasi.

  • @Calbuttss Have you ever listened to CHON?

  • @Calbuttss First you have to see them live to say that Satriani and Vai bore you and not Guthie .. And if u saw them all live and still say that the other 2 are boring then i just feel sorry for you . And second comparing different things doesnt have any sense ..

  • @perospadelis12 shut your fuckhole.

  • @Calbuttss You're just a kid apparently.. I just said my opinion ...

  • @Calbuttss mmmmmm Tosin and Guthrie for life.

  • @Calbuttss couldn't agree more. abasi and govan are bosses.

  • @Calbuttss try allan holdsworth...he really does pwn every guitar player ever...his harmonic awareness is just beyond most people, so if u really can understand him, ull realize that he isnt human and is pretty much the reincarnation of john coltrane..with that said, guthrie is a fucking monstorous players, and can play any style really well

  • This dude is SICK!!!! Buckethead might have some competition

  • I don't know if he could play any chicken pickin' though! bad ass anyways.

  • This is crazy! And that legato, holy shit!

  • he looks like a pirate

  • I really like his picking

  • I love his faces man, haha. Thats how you can tell a man is one with his guitar.

  • how many people that watched this video thinking in their heads.. "how can i be this good and impress all the girls?"

  • @brentstuntzner because your music is way more interesting. no one believes your smart because you find skill boring.

  • @brentstuntzner are you serious? guthrie probably the least boring guitar player out there

  • Thumbs Up if u watch the video again

  • @gluzzbung Was he good even back in the day?

  • Gaaaah! Him.......or............Alex!!!!

  • Sounds like a mario kart song!

  • fijo esos ridiculos xD q no le dieron Like a este video son regguetoneros de M

  • GO LADY GAGA!

  • @GuitarShred78 lol wut?

  • @GuitarShred78 WTF XDDDDDDDDDD

  • I was a child of the 80's and grew up on Van Halen, Satriani, Vai, etc.... This guy is DEFINITELY carryin the torch for all us SHRED fans out there!!!! Absolutely freakin AMAZING!!!

  • @Leadblimp ur very right about Govan and Petrucci but parading who you know does constitute u being a better musician than everyone. Even if u are u have no vidoes no proof and prolly are just really arrogant. My point is a good musician is modest DR. Foote took lessoms from Rachmoninov himself and taught at Juiliard when he was 18 but ud never guess he was a piano player, so please enough douchebaggery

  • watch?v=KZJKPLo32aE&feature=related

  • wenisimo este wn!ª las caga :D

  • now thats some sexy fucking soloing

  • you are a god guthrie govan

  • Really great, also in shredding he is always melodic

  • He's so focused, he doesn't even pay attention to the faces he makes! lmao

  • now i remember why i don't listen to Guthrie anymore....

while he is an amazing musician and an entertaining player..he has grown a following of musically immature fanboys who are obsessed with the idea of (HE IS THE BEST GUITARIST EVER AND HE IS BETTER THAN EVERYBODY)..it is sad..

  • @arcainjust So you're not listening to Guthrie Govan just because of his fan? Then you're probably not listening to any guitarist that made a name 'cause they ALL have that kind of fan...

  • @arasu90 apology for my inaccuracy i was just meaning his youtube videos..true all guitarist have those kind of fans..

  • @arcainjust Just because someone says that he is the greatest alive is not a bad thing. It's their opinion. John Frusciante to me was once my "best guitarist in the world". This guy is very good and can play pretty much anything so it is good that people are recognizing his talent. You can't take online comments too serious specially from guitar fanboys.

  • Geez! Where did he come from?

  • i'm a big Satch fan, but this is brilliant !

  • who do you think is better guthrie or loomis that would be a sick battle

  • I love Guthrie. Only one thing, though... he makes me realise how much my own playing sucks! Gawd help me ;)

  • with that playing im surprized his hair hasn't fallen off :D

  • I know one day I'll play like this. Until that day, this is my idea of God.

  • Guthrie rocks

  • I don't know why people haven't caught on yet... G3 is just "Guthrie Govan Guitar-ownage"

  • who the fuck is steve vai>?

  • Ok this goes to everyone, EVERYONE IN THE WORLD HAS Their own favorite guitarist mine is john petrucci or Eric Johnson. THat is my opinion, stop whoring out other guitarist music uploaded and sayin who is better. It's annoying and stick with your fan community and this would be so much easier to deal with. Guthrie is an amazing player, as a musician myself I look to him as someone who succeeded in his vision of music. THERE is no Best guitar player. How many years will it take for people to stop

  • God you guys pain me. Do your research, and check out Guthries slow blues improvisations. He is better than just about any blues guitarist there is - and I'm talking about your beloved "feeling/space between the notes". This is "bullet blues - FAST blues" if you will. I don't even like much of his music, but yet I'm not so naive to put him against anyone else. Combine all his styles, and what makes a musician a musician, and then It'll be quite apparent, that nobody even comes close to him.

  • 47 jealous bastards =)

  • Souful

    Impossible

    Crazy

    Kickass

  • Got 47 people to hunt down for not liking this video..........

  • That last note made me less a man

  • He's obviously a great guitarist technically, but I'd also like to seem him play SLOW blues with FEEL. The blues is NOT about this style of play. It's about making every note count, not squeezing as many notes as possible into each bar.

  • @wcrimi3

    i agree

  • @wcrimi3

You obviously don't understand. Feeling is not about playing slow. You can have loads of feeling playing fast, and your argument about "squeezing" as many notes in as possible, is just mindblowing to me. You can't find a single note, that's been "squeezed" in, if you're talking about Guthrie. He is the pinnacle of improvisation and he stands alone - simple as that. Check out his blues videos. He does the "slow/feeling bla bla" blues, better than just about 99.9% of the blues guitarists

  • @wcrimi3 you've missed the point lol

  • Minchia!!!!!!

  • Guthrie should be in G3 except well will replace the two other guitarists with angels just shooting his guitar on fire

  • such technique and control o_o

  • Really got a severe case of the runs hasn't he. Even on the blues !

This is just scale memory patterns rather than compositional note choice.

Time he learned to slow down & play with feel over solid compositions like Jeff beck does. Until he does he's just another very very clever flashy finger gymnast 1st & artist/musician 2nd !

Done very well but without the Video I'd fall asleep.

  • @pobinr I dont know, but to me its the exact opposite. Jeff Beck is really uninteresting to me save for "Where Were You" ...haha But really if you wanna play it slow, take guitarists like...whoops none come to mind Oo

BTW I fuckin hate this shredders have no soul blabbering...why did people invent the rollercoaster? bc it wakes this special intense adrenaline-laden feeling that you JUST DONT GET if you trill that A note on the 2nd fret on the G string...if you smell what im cookin

  • music is about the silence between the notes. miles was right about guitarists being different to those who played wind instrument - they over look the breathing spaces. the difference between a shredder and a musician with soul.

  • Since Youtube and social networking, a lot of great guitarrists emerged, to the spotlight with very good musical and technical skills, but this guy stands tall. Unbelievable technique, groove and harmony/construction skills.

  • Wow this guy is excellent, how does he make those sounds come out of his fingers.

  • after paco de lucia all guitarists are nothing ,you can notnimagine how difficuld is picado tecnick vich uses paco

  • @TheKing2033 its not about difficulty, and that in itself lies in the eye of the beholder.

  • blues played with soul and not just technique. if you think that playing really fast notes and using all the technique of the universe make you the master of music, man, you don't have blues.

  • this is not blues...

  • @diegorolling86 you're right, the track's name is Bullet Blues, and the Guitarist is guthrie govan.
