i've seen pictures of the car after the crash.my mother still can't watch them...no nose ,no midlle....nothing....nothing left....just a litlle more then an engine bay......
my own brother got killed in germany driving a beetle, finally coming back from vacation,.
oncoming traffic was overtaking a big truck in heavy rain, with dence fog....
hitted him head-on with more then 80 km/our(60 miles?i guess),no warning ...nothing...
my brother died on impact..his mother sitting next to him later in the hospital, third person in the back also died later....other driver fled the scene off the accident....
i hate beetles...i hate them.....the're deathtraps....
Had a 65 Notchback with a 1600 cc engine in the back and twin carburetors. It would charge up a hill with 4 people with no problem. She had a gas heater knob on the dash that you would start up on cold mornings, and when the light turned red, you were ready to go. Sometimes on really cold mornings that light could take 20 minutes to turn red. She had no defrosting fan for the front window. Prairie winters were cold, but her crankshaft broke during a routine parking maneuver. Long may you run.
Loved the bugs i had ,but as you can see by some of the pics,......Friend got killed in one back in the 70`s,broadsided by a bigger car.......Even some of the 50s boats they drove were bad in wrecks, compared to all the safety features they have now.....seems like everyone I know had one back in the day,but most people drove careful, and weren`t so many cars on the road either.
@jeepers2655 The old T1 buses wern't much better.my high school classmate had one.No weight in front thus very susceptible to wind and if you look under the dash you can see the headlight buckets .Bye- Bye feet if you are in a head on. However, I rode with a friend over a 100 miles in a 70 Beetle with the generator light on.The car hung in until 60 miles from our destination before the battery died.A jump start got us to our final destination. How many cars can do that??. Awesome little cars.
Just makes you wonder, how were these people driving them? I mean, normal driving would not cause them to end up like they did. Rememeber the Beetle crash in The Dead Zone?
I feel for you. That is really horrible :(

it is a crying shame since majority of those look like the driver was at fault.
