You people who defend Vietnam as a reasonable reason for War are hilarious... America's government conscripted and recruited young soldiers who would only go and die for a Cold War theory. The Domino Effect was the cause of many young soldiers dying, many people who didnt even want to be there...American Politicians didn't care about the country... they just didnt want it to fall to Communism... just like America's Politicians don't care about Americans today.. Just look at the evidence of 9/11.
@brothermoth I agree, we're just meat being processed thru the meat grinder so to speak, at least thats how I felt, but in a strange way I'm still proud to have served with the men I did serve with, and the ones we lost.
@brothermoth So we shouldn't have defended South Korea or West Germany by your logic. Did you notice when the North Vietnamese did take over, everybody that could get out of South Vietnam left. As far as the Domino effect, every country in South East Asia fell except Thailand. What evidence about 9/11 are you talking about? I bet you are dumb enough to believe that fat slob of a movie director whos films are banned in Cuba.
Please try and be more charitable with each other. There is no cause for all the vitriole and angst. There were men who served and men who ran. Let's most of all respect those who died. I came home in 1971 and am thankful to this day. God bless our men and women in uniform; especially those who are in combat. Amen.

PRO-COMMUNIST SENATOR "HANOI" JOHN KERRY SUPPORTS BRUTAL COMMUNIST VIETNAM BY KILLING VIETNAM HUMAN RIGHTS ACT 2009 (H.R. 1969) IN THE SENATE.
He considers dirty money and economic ties with Vietnam much more important than human rights values. Consequently, Vietnam, has waged a new crackdown on democracy activists such as Father Nguyen van Ly and lawyers Nguyen van Dai and Le thi Cong Nhan, who were given unfair, harsh sentences of several years in prison for their democracy activities.
If America had not started the war, South Vietnam would have fallen into communism in 1954 and more Vietnamese would have been murdered in cultural revolutions like those launched by Mao in China (20 million deaths) & Khmer Rouge in Cambodia (2 millions)
Total Vietnamese democide by communists: 1,040,000 (1975-87) by HCR.
After the Soviet Union's collapse in 1991, the communist authority in Vietnam switched to its big brother Red China, a new leader of a few remaining communist nations including China, North Korea, Vietnam, Laos, and Cuba, for China's backup to remain in power in Vietnam. There are ten divisions of more than 100,000 Chinese troops disguised as mine workers in the central highlands, who will repeat another Tiananmen Square massacre in case Vietnamese revolt against the communist regime.
Ho chi Minh, Vietnam's communist leader, is a disguting TRAITOR & MURDERER! In exchange for chinese military aids in the war with France (1945-1954), he gave up Paracel & Spratly archipelagos which are very rich in oil resources to China. He even ordered to murder his own mistress named Nong thi Xuan when she threatened to disclose her sexual relationship with him since that would destroy his image as a Father of Vietnam who lives as a god and sacrifices his whole life for Vietnam revolution.
AMERICA LOST VIETNAM WAR BECAUSE OF ITS BIASED MEDIA!!!
Since anti-war, liberal American media always focused on American and Vietnamese civilian casualties, and ignored the enemy's casualties and Vietcong's atrocities against its own people as in the case of Hue's massacre of 5000 civilians in 1968, to mislead Americans to become against Vietnam war. Ho chi Minh, founder of Vietnam's communist party once said, " the war is not decided in Vietnam's battle fields but in CBS studio!"
The Air Cav, 82nd Airborne, US Marines did a fabulous job in Vietnam under the worst battle conditions. The average combat soldier in Vietnam fought over 200battle days a year, WW2 average wa 40 batle days a year. I served with Marines aboard the USS Tripoli that were all 2 or3 tour veterans of Vietnam. My brother and cousins were wounded after 3 tours all.God Bless All that served, you performed honorbly and are fine human beings!
Again the US fought with one hand tied behind their backs if you know what I mean. If our people were given one order, Win, then
the war would have been over years before.
Now we have backward Afghanistan, our troops could literally tear the Afghanis a new asshole if allowed to light up the place. Bring back the aggressive tactics we used in WWII, carpet bombing and everything we have in the arsenal.
Take-out entire cities and dam well those bastards will quit.
I just got back from Iraq after serving with 4th BCT, 1st Cav. I just joined the 1st Cav Association. The guys who fought in Vietnam are my heroes. When I see young kids write in who want to join the 1st Cav, I have a lot of hope for this generation. One day, even the kid who wrote in who doesn't believe yet, he will put down his bong, take off his headband, trade in his sandals and tie-dye, walk down to his recruiter and say: "I want to go Cav!"
@Wmatthies thank you for your service i hope to join the Army NG would love to get into cav scouts or air cav, if not just infantry. then go active. hooah!
@Fuzionrider you want air cav you need to go infantry and air cav isn't a mos either dude, it's just a title for a certain unit, go infantry safe yourself the hassle, cav scouts are cool too but I was infantry so I'm going to tell you to go with that lol, if your a scout your going to be with the ground pounders anyway.
how was korea a failure is there one communist korea?
and if anything the south vietnamese lost 'nam 58,000 deaths to somewhere between 500-600,000 enemy KIA from the U.S standpoint doesnt seem to be a failure..
also the south clapsed because of poor organization and leadership from their govt.
actually nazi germany and US involment arent alike at all
1.did the US have concentration camps?
2.was the war similar to WWII?
3.also it hasnt been nearly publicized enough that the VC/NVA massacred civilians several times such as the Battle Of Hue , Dak Song and systematically terrorized vietnamese civilians throughout the war
4.The US lost? Funny it seems the US signed the peace pacts in 1973 while a full two years after in 1975 south vietnam fell meaning that south vietnam actually lost
also yes i know your next statement is bound to be about the May lai massacre which obviously was a tragic and horrific event but in all actuality with the exception of this one terrible event the overwhelming majority of violent and unlawful actions commited upon the vietnamese people were those of the vietcong and north vietnamese army such as the events I had listed in my earlier comment. freedom of speech is quite important and I respect that but please do not compare the US to complete evil
Not complete evil, but they still lost, they had to pull out and they failed to achive their goal of stopping communism from spreading to south vietnam.
I'm not saying americans are completely evil and whatnot, but they did lose, doesen't matter how many they killed.
US involvement in vietnam while the US had major troop level in country prevented the enemy from capturing any major cities even throughout the Tet Offensive. It did become increasingly obvious however that south vietnam could not win the war without US involvement and due to public outrage over the war the US realized that vietnam was a lost cause because the south could not hold its own.
the goal of preventing communism was still intact as long as the US was involved
@zephead1969 YOU GOT THAT RIGHT MATE, WELL SAID AND TO THINK PEOPLE ARE SUGGESTING THAT THE TROOPS LOST THE WAR?? jesus im really freaking tired of this talk....i bet this little people that say "america sucks" never had anyone fight in vietnam well... i did and im tired of comments like Dragon888888888's
They had a habit (still in use today in Iraq and Afghanistan) of showing up somewhere, starting a furious battle, taking heavy casualties, then 'leaving' for somewhere else. Ia Drang and Khe Sanh being two examples. They left Vietnam clinging desperately to the struts of helicopters and taking fire from the rooftops they had abandoned. It is easy for propaganda professionals to 'spin' losses into alleged victories, knowing that people who believe corporate media will 'believe' them.
"heavy" casualties? for everyone US soldier killed, there were 10 VC killed in his place. Also, the battle at Ia Drang was the first battle and victory for the US
They ran from Ia Drang and left the terrain in the hands of the people who lived there. You can call that whatever you like. I know what I call it. There is no question they murdered two million unarmed civilians, but people in this country today still bemoan the 60,000 or so casualties taken by US forces. Keep sucking up that Fox propaganda and everything will be just fine.
yes but americans lost the war completely ,a country like the u.s should win a war hands down against a country with majority of peasants .i hope they dont loose iraq ,oh yeah iraqis dont know how to set booby traps , so i guess americans are all good in the middle east.
