  • I am so glad you came from the Amazon Jungle for this....to learn all that you know on computers hmmmm.....

  • lee is acting and sounds just like Steve-o did when he was coked out of his mind. See the coincidence

  • Two good Jewish boys.....

  • I dig the "beat it" in the background...hilarious...Roth was pissed when Eddie did that with MJ.

  • Mark Goodman is such a tool in this interview.

  • Roth is obnoxious but I love his comments on the Clash.

  • No wonder they sounded like shit at this show...... What a drunk!

  • Is the interviewer the keyboardist from Fame?!?

    The schnozzola looks the same

Hi fidelity and all that bollox

  • @cetieel He was an MTV VJ. Im pretty sure

  • haha! He crushed the Clash, them no talent punk rock hacks.

  • exelente!!!!!!

  • i carried him onto the stage with a bottle of jack daniels

  • People only tolerated this behavior from Roth because he was cute at the time. Now that he looks like the Crypt Keeper, he's decidedly less "amusing." In fact, he creeps me out.

  • Horshack interviews the ever obnoxious David Lee Roth. Not to be confused with Jake E Lee. lol. I was there in 83. What a day for 80s metal. (if u can call it metal. They did then)

  • @clbaumer yeah dance the night away & Jaimies cryin is metal!! i don't think so i always thought VH was hard rock w some pop/rock mixed in, then w/ Sammy it became more poppy!!!

  • @clbaumer i was there too..totally insane

  • @aaronamccoy Roth is coked up here, no doubt. It was big back then. Funny story from US 83. When I was getting frisked, I had a mirror in my back poscket. They were confescating bottles. The dude asked me what it was for. I said "My coke, what else?"

He sais. "Oh, OK... No problem. Have fun". Cause I would NEVER throw the coke mirrow! The 80s man, what a decade!

  • @clbaumer haha, yup cats were gettin high,,i was trip99pin balls on acid, smoking heroin,,lol, crazy day,,havnt seen nothin quite like that since..

  • @aaronamccoy Thats crazy bro. We, four of us, drove down from SF the night before with Jack Daniels and a bagful of coke, watched the day long show (in 115 frickin degrees, with 350,000 peeps), then took acid we bought there, drove back to SF all night after, and got a half keg of beer for the next day. Three full on days of 80s fun, excess and general debachery.

  • @clbaumer all three days,,thats tight..sounds like you all did it right. good to see some old school cats on here

  • @clbaumer --- Why y'all gotta be rubbin' it our faces that you got to have fun at the '83 US Festival and we didnt? Fuck yeah I woulda cut off my left nut for a chance to chug some Jack and snort a few lines waiting for the mighty Roth Halen to take the stage ---- maybe even bone a chick in a tent. But you dont need to be bragging about that shit since most of us were too young to be there.......ya dig?

  • @Hunkola LMAO... Sorry bro, just a couple old rockers sharing some war stories. Cocaine, acid and alcohol were fun back in the day, but not something I would want to deal with on a regular basis. Im kinda glad I got out of the decade alive. That was the 80s. Have fun.

  • @clbaumer ---- Nah it's cool, brah......I just get a little jealous hearing stories about dudes snortin' lines of coke off chicks' titties at a Van Halen show.......sure wish I coulda been there -- when rock 'n roll was fun

  • Kings of Heavy Metal??? Maybe Black Sabbath. NOT Van Halen. In the final analysis, Black Sabbath has proven over many more years to have long-lasting metal impact. Van Halen turned into pussies after a few years and show no sign of maintaining ANY capability of delivering METAL at all any more.

  • Holy shit is micheal jackson playing with eddie in the background

  • @BlackLabelForLife Holy Shit, I believe you're right !!!

  • 5' 7" ... good grief ... he's a midget...

  • I was there, maybe 20 bodies back from the stage, and snapped a photo of DLR. My buddy and I actually left before VH finished their set. I am a huge VH fan but, the Scorpions stole the show on this day.

  • Imagine being in the same room with Diamond Dave AND Robin Williams. And some cocaine.

  • @TwoGunGunnar and Ron Wood?

  • The backstage part was actually filmed weeks before the actual show due to technicality. Read 'Crazy From The Heat'

  • How can I make $17,000 per minute?

  • @pashastookie --- That was an insane amount of cash back in 1983.......but the mighty Van Halen could draw a big crowd so it was worth it........besides, Steve Wozniak was a billionaire so he could afford the band LOL

  • This is so classic, the nerdy guy interviewing him looks terrified, DLR is like an exotic animal and this idiot is trying to ask him these ridiculous questions. While DLR is laughing at his own jokes..it's absolutely hilarious.

Like two people from different planets.

  • @paisleyization --- The nerdy guy is Mark Goodman and he was one of the original MTV veejays when the network launched in 1981.......but yeah Dave was being his usual goofy self and Goodman looked stupid trying to make it a serious interview........he learned the hard way that Diamond Dave always owns the microphone

  • I was at this show and David Lee Roth was shithouse wasted by the time they took the stage and they really sucked!

  • MJ playin on stage....

  • "Gimme me a bottle of anything...and a glazed dounut.........TO GOOOooooo!"

Gotta love ADHD Diamond Dave at his peak powers. What a nut.

  • There he is, Diamond Dumbass again.

  • @iloveshonenknife1 Eat a dick, douchebag. You think the Diamond One would EVER view a YouTube video of your sorry ass and whine like a 15-year-old schoolgirl with a crush? Probably not. He's too busy being AWESOME.

  • Ah memories. Despite being drunk and high most of the day, I do still remember most of this show. Damn...I just realized, this is back when MTV actuall aired music videos. How times have changed. And diamond Dave, hahahaha...easy to see why no one could stand him. Despite his personlity flaw, he's hands down the greatest frontman rock music ever saw. Isn't he an ambulance driver now?

  • I freakin' love it...there's Michael Jackson's Beat It, playing in the background.

  • Haha dave is so awesome!

  • I'm confused. They are talking about music on MTV? When did this start?

  • Roth was such an egomaniac, but it worked. Only in the 80's!!!!

  • Rumor has it that VJ Mark Good had indulged almost as much as the band by this time and in a whole other story....Dave, Dave, Dave!

  • i agree ! what a jerk!!!!

  • wish it could happen again, remake the us festival when vh played, they should! vh supposed 2 come back, preist and crue touring , i think scorpians can.. it would b so awsome

  • indeed it would!!

  • I have a copy of this performance, and Dave mentions that only the Clash would drink ice tea from a bottle of Jack Daniels.I never knew why, but now I know.

  • they are band rivals as well as van halen and acdc

  • That 83 metal day US Festival was the greatest Metal festival EVER !

  • Roth's positive "life is a party" mentality was infectious. Van Halen set the stage for the best decade in rock period. There ain't no good interviews anymore....nobody worth a damn to interview. "where have all the good times gone?" ;)

  • perfectly said i must say

  • We have to make our own "Good Times". I hope Roth and VH get back together again.

  • they are back man they had the reunion tour in 07 and no their recording with roth

  • didn't know that...not too much press...Oh, I was out of the country.

  • MTV interviews were a lot better back then!

  • Man I remember that!!---They played that interview on the once great WAAF Worcester-Wow-That was a blast from the past. Nice find and post thanks--

  • 2:33 lol

  • Back when MTV was worth a shit. To think back then VH1 sucked, who woulda thunk it?

  • they pay them 16,000 per minute and still dave gets drunk as fuck haha

  • Dave really busted on Mark Goodman during this interview......but with that stupid curly hairdo, who wouldnt?

  • he is hot as sh--.

  • They make 16,000 dollars a minute i can't even make 8.00 dollars a hour. Pretty fucking sad.

  • And that was 25 years ago.

  • God knows how much money that would be today. Probably in the range between 3,780,000-4,000,000 dollars for the whole show and 42,000-44,445 dollars a minute (keep in mind the inflation rate at the beginning of the 1980s was really high and it fucks with the calculations thus the estimate).

  • fucking odd!!!

  • Ha ha ha ha! Dude you cracked me up!

  • Kings of Metal!!! LMAO!!! Van Halen is Pop Rock NOT Metal, lets get that straight.

  • True, they became very comercial in 1983. However, their music from 1978 to 1982 was new, harder and fresh for that time. Metal today is different then it was in the early 80's. Turn the early shit up and you'll feel it.

  • they reinvented hard rock and what would be (a terrible display) of glam metal at this time. few people understand that Van Halen in the early 80's defined rock and set the bar for heavy metal for the future. Extreme talent and great fun loving music!

  • Marks hair should have been saved so future children can see what a dork looks like.

  • He paved the way for legions of victims of L.S.D.(Lead Singers Disease). I've known so many guys who think they can sing who just can't and ALL of them were egotistical assholes who in the end never amounted to anything. Of course Dave was an egotistical bastard who COULD sing(when he tried) but his obnoxious behavior was sickening and he became(and still is in spite of the reunion) a joke.

  • David Lee Roth was ALWAYS like this in every interview I ever heard growing up. Total attention whore, obnoxious and never shuts up. He was usually really entertaining though. But this was the 80's folks and the US Festival, so i am sure he was JACKED UP on anything and everything. Too much of everything....was just enough, was our motto growing up in the 80's!!

Glad I lived them and through them ;)

  • @tyamster Well said.

  • why is Beat It playing in the background>

  • because eddie played the solo. most likely, that's why.

  • That, plus in 1983, just about everybody liked or just pretended not to like thr Thriller album.

Wonder how many people will deny that now?

  • "I just learned a floppy disk isnt a record you have to massage" DAVE RULES !!!

  • It's ... a record you left in the sun.

  • Looked like Mark Goodman was trying to kiss Dave! I think there was a lump in Mark's pants. Dave did a PATTON routine followed by a Rod Steiger and Al Jolson impression. MTV was so lame when it first started out. US Festival was a major deal in '83.

  • I think Mark is annoyed by Dave's antics.

  • Only Dave can make being loaded look so cool.

  • Just say yes to being spontaneous and entertaining. Creepy?? Have you looked at and listened to most rappers in the past decade?

  • KINDA CREEPY!

  • just say no to drugs !!!!

    how emberassing.......

  • Geez Dave do enough coke that day?

  • Jesus Christ...he's totally loaded.

  • see this concert basically introduced us to the digital world ..... the sad thing is that most of us were so messed up we didn't know it... at least I din't ....LOL

  • there will never be another diamond dave. only dlr can pull that off.

  • I love it! The Clash were out to save the world, Van Halen was out to rock it. You can't save the fucking world, but you sure as hell can rock it. Van Halen owned!

  • @assynipplechops You should be a rock journalist!!!! YOU ROCK FOREVER!!!!

  • I hear ya brother. They used to be kings to me. Dave is more impressed with himself than anyone.

  • thats because hes drunk

  • Calling David Lee Roth a "semi mental retard" says more about you than it does about him.

The man is extremely intelligent. Did he have a good time in the '80s? Yes. As the lead singer of Van Halen, he was kinda obligated to have a damn good time.

  • If Dave was a mental retard what does that make Britney Spears?

  • HA. they're playing "Beat It" in the background.

  • Geez..lighten up a little. Van Halen is the last band you wanna take seriously. Oh and there are plenty of people paying lot's of $ to see them now.

  • Good, go check out 'Survivor,' geek!

  • What an ego....gotta love him! Very excited about their tour....hope he jumps and kicks again! Stay sober Eddie...good luck Wolfie!

  • my god his head was throught the stratosphere in this interview... 2:33 and 2:46 just totally prove it

    still rocks tho

  • he always did the cab calloway just a gigilo voice in interviews, he rocked

  • welcome back dave you haven't changed a bit!

  • I wonder if Jani Lane wished he started a 401k back then?

Dave rules...welcome back to Van Halen, more songs about sex, less songs about love.

  • Diamond Dave and Eddie were without a doubt the rock gods to rule all in the eighties. Feelgood rock and roll!! none of that angry "The world is against me!" bullshit.

  • Classic Dave, I remember hearing this interview on the radio back in '83 but never actually saw it. Thanks!

  • Man, the days before the sex and the drugs started killing everyone! Those were the days. Great to see Dave being Dave.

  • well put... god bless

  • he always gives a good interview

  • Great upload! Too funny..."I want an E-ticket!" (Disneyland pass!) Dave is soooo entertaining tho drunk and high as a kite...has a clever brain tho. LOL! Party on Van Halen & Dave!

  • I love Diamond Dave. He WAS so much fun!!!

  • I'd rather be a drunk then a dork!

  • Good and drunk and high too! LOL!

  • he's quite eloquent for a drunk... that's amazing.

  • he's pissing on u, beliEve that little persob that you will always be... SAD

  • actually dave is certifiably insane... not in that cool way... i mean, he makes no sense. it's sorta neat he was able to get as far as he did. i like him though. for some reason.

  • Dave is Cool.!!

  • Classic footage!

  • how did they stand that douche for as long as they did?

  • piss off u lamer, dave rocks

  • He was an excellent singer, but did you even see how drunk he was? I would bet money that 7/10 people who went to see them were disappointed. And if they weren't it was because they liked one or more of the other bands

  • Did you see the concert after this interview? It kicked ass. You don't have to be sober to rock. It isn't like it's updating software.

  • WHAAATTTT? Irony, Shakespeare, Dave & Eddie together. You either get it or ya don't. It'll come to ya next time your listening to your bullshit music collection, or maybe not. You might be a Journey fan!!!

  • Diamond Dave & VH are back finally to rock it old school this summer! This concert is a great warm-up for the tour this year.

  • he's a drunk son of a bitch

  • HES ICONS K?

  • I forgot what a dweeb Mark Goodman actually was!

  • DLR, the best frontman to have ever graced the stage....

  • Dave got SOOOOO much ass it isn't even funny...

  • yeah and now we got pimpin and rappin and Korn and who?

  • what a legend

  • Simply the BEST guy (&band!)!! You rock the ground Daveeeee

  • Did you hear Beat It playin in the background? Eddie's solo started just as that interview ended

  • Ehj dude party on! :D

  • The 80's was a great and FUN time in music, especially with VH and other HardRock bands. You shoulda been there MayinJune!

  • Dave...you rock

  • what a fuckin' 80's goofy
