So far I have only read Also Sprach Zarathustra and I can only judge from reading it in its original German form. I did not like the English translation because it has serious faults in it and it is even further misunderstood because of the false translation. Judging from Zarathustra what I understood is that the superhuman is not the master of slaves or puppets but a highly ethical person like Paul Watson. When my translation is done I will upload it in video form. Let's talk about F. Nietzsche
@RupertTorp That's only the begin of the slave morality, it's based on hate to their master. But later that base is forgotten, and only the morality stays, and that is humbleness, weakness, forgiveness and so on
master and Slaves no longer exist???..the word lingo just changed to be more "politicly correct"...it exists today still but its called Bankers and Workers
there is no simpler explanation also realistic one to what morality or moralities are, master people love themselves while the slaves resent them jealous them hate them all that comes from their weaknesses, I believe that the master should always win, since the master is always happy, and alike comes from alike, which you think is better for us as humans to be free and strong and or weak and enslaved, born of happyness or resenment tell?
That was pretty good, although when you were evaluating slave and master morality towards the end, you invoked 'intuition' though surely you can only refer to your own intuition. But that's very minor.
He thought and said in his books that the master and the slaves are uncomprehensible to one another, the only thing they have for each other is hatred. It's like two parallel universes to say that exist in human world. Of course this means two different ways of living and two different ways of having morality. Within each morality there are infinite beings living to achieve their goals according to each morality. The master though is the owner of land. While the slave is owner of labour. maybe.
I have a very important exam on Nietzsche tomorrow, and I've really been struggling with revision, but I found this very helpful, so thank you! Just wish I'd found your channel before the disastrous exam I took on Political Philosophy, Epistemology, and Metaphysics yesterday!
Is Nietzsche not both master and slave to himself? If consider yourself a master you are then introducing a slave. And if there is no slave to enslave, you do it to yourself. And there you have major inner conflict.

@ameriCAN3008 You just said something that can draw entire our urban culture. But this inteligent axiom that you came to is wrong. Nietzsche is talking about temporal reaccurance of events that defy reason becouse reason is flawable
What do you mean there is not much of master morality today? Aren't media, academia, corporation, religion, government, military (and all people involved in them?) the greatest representatives of master morality?

I don't think Nietzsche intended on so much reflection. I believe that he simply wanted to point out that not thinking for yourself would mean that you are a slave, and if you have no morals at all (respect for others, honorable intentions, etc.) then you must feel superior to others. I would think that he was observing people who are narcissistic tend to be M-M, and people who have low self-esteem have s-m. He could also have been observing a culture, like the caste system.Any docs. on that?
Thank you very much for posting this lecture. Nietzsche is one of the most influential thinkers of the past 150 years. He is the master of his philosophy, one of the most fascinating, thought provoking way of writing that cannot be compared with any other philosopher.
To be a Selfish Capitalist does not mean Will to Power, to be Thyself in front an immense temptation to enslave oneself with Greed and morality is what Nietzche is saying.
In the end all things are totally simple: Good is what makes us feel good and bad is what makes us feel bad. Morals, ethics, ideologies, politeness and respect are in the end (even though I personally enjoy it to be polite and respectful) bucklers of the weak with which they want to protect themselves of the egoists. The weak want to convince the stronger that it is evil per se to insult, hurt, kill, steal etc., they want to put posessions in the human mind in order to tame it.
Poverty is a lack of wealth. The poor is enslaved by the fear of death, the Master enslaves the poor and weak with the threat of violence and starvation. The Master cordinates slavery through regimentation of the slave. The slave is fed at a subsitence level, the slave is flogged for discipline and obedience.
Well spoken and well said, so hats off to you. But, to reply to your welcome to challenges, I would counter your stance that Nietzsche prefers master- morality over slave-morality. Although he said M-M is the better of the two, the moral system itself is to be transcended. The habit of valuing anything, as seen in Genealogy of Morals, shows that we have only constructed ideas of goodness, so there is no ultimate way, not even M-M. Rather, life is the arena to create infinite ways to live
Think like a slave and remain dependent on the church and state. Or think like a master and become independent. That's if my thoughts determine my reality. I will never forget this audio.
Thank you . Really enjoyed this and your Nozick lectures. I had come to similar conclusions about the working classes in the UK and supporters of the Labour Party. People seem so full of resentment and jealousy and it traps them in (relative) poverty. I'm going to be a master. Check out the moneyless man, Mark Boyle. He may just have found the only way to be truly free.
It is short step from Nietzsche to unbridled self-interest. His admonitions to live a truly authentic Master life (uber-life?) are only allowable because they are so easily thwarted.
Like so many things about Nietzsche, we end up at the opposite of where we think he is going.
Yet, slave morality is so unappealing, and the project of morality is so unnatural that the only way to look at it is upside-down.
And, since he wants us to abandon all gods/masters, is he saying anything else...?
I think Nietzsche has over simplified things here.
Truly living for oneself does indeed bring more happiness but this involves a mixture of the qualities rather than either of the extremes he highlights.
Also, if you observe the current-day masters, who do indeed covet money & power above anything else, there is not much honour to be seen. It is oftentimes regarded as a weakness.
Many seem content with the slave morality described ¬ at all concerned about any loss of freedoms & liberties.
@explorer2101 I agree that things such as honour and bravery could be seen as a weakness. Excess bravery would mean when weighing up the rewards and risks of a situation, you take a risk which is not merited by the possible reward. I would say that being able to accurately judge the situation and act logically would be more in line with serving oneself well.
I would also say that giving the impression of being brave and honourable to those around you would be beneficial and serve oneself well.
I am however constantly fascinated with those who claim to understand particular philosophers or gurus, yet angrily defend them in a manner that is very base, to say the least. Many times this is in total contradiction to that which they protest about.
@explorer2101 Quite the enlightened insult old chap, I'd be offended if it was from someone other than the eunuch-child of a whore and a slave; but since it is, I'll just remain silent on your obvious mental (and physical) deficiencies.
"There are no more literal master's and slaves..."
This statement is incorrect. There are more people in slavery today then ever before in history.

"Nietzsche is one of the most (...) misunderstood pilosophers of all time". Indeed.
I'll take a step further and say that Nietzsche is THE most misunderstood philosopher ever.
Seriously, can anybody name only one philosopher as misunderstood and misrepresented than him?

Could I conclude that Hedonism and Libertarianism is master morality ?
Achilles9924 1 year ago
Libertarianism is totally decadent - the dead opposite of morality.
Nietzsche considered his own age decadent but this age of the "liberal" is total decay.
GrandPrix55 1 year ago
@Achilles9924 No, that wouldn't. Hedonism is being a slave to petty desires. For the master, happiness is action, the two are inseperable.

In your case, do you take drugs or alcohol?
You should, I think it would improve your
