I actually prefer Blake to JGJ. Was his voice as good? No. But his portrayal blew me away. While JGJ was a bit more sad, sweet and reserved, Blake was batsh*t insane, raw, intense and downright angry. They're both amazing Moritzes, don't get me wrong. I saw this cast live and this video does not do him justice, in fact, I watched the other videos of the touring cast from this past year and none of these videos did any of them justice. The cast was remarkable and awesome, and I saw the broadway version of it on youtube so I would have an idea of what to expect, and I am aware that the videos of the broadway show did not do them proper justice either. All I am saying everything is 100 times better live and I loved this version of moritz.
don't get me wrong- blake bashoff is incredibly talented, but i personally lie john gallagher jr. and taylor trenschs' moritz's better. they make moritz more tender and sincere, so I feel like his suicide is more heartwrenching. they make moritz more insecure too, while bashoff makes moritz closed off and has an air of confidence to him.

I like this performace but as a whole Blake's version of Moritz seems to lack depth that John G. Jr had. I feel this version of the character is just to bland when compared to the prior, but then again how do you top the original Moritz.

sure John's version is 'the original' but Blake gave Moritz a wonderful darker side singning wise that i've come to appreciate just as much as John's awesome talent. but personally i could listen to the both of the all day haha
this is stunning. he's a phenomenal actor; the intensity of his performance is chilling. I like the way this guy interpreted the role - he was more definite and had more resolve and seemed ultimately to have more danger and mystery to him than other performers presented. I think it makes sense to have Moritz be the most dangerous character in the play - even more so than Melchior or anyone else. this guy communicates that danger really well.

i think blake is really excelent. deff. my next favorite moriz after John, he really made the charecter his own and didnt try to copy john, which i reallly respect.
Of course Blake isn't going to be (in my opinion) as great as John, but he is definitely number two. They play the character differently, and honestly, that's kinda what theatre is about. So basically, JGJ IS Moritz, Blake has a great portrayal of Moritz, and Gerard is rubbish. Hahahaha. I have tried and tried to like Gerard, but I just think he's terrible.

The point of this has less to do with the music and more with the story being told. It is art, not the vapid, easily digestible garbage most Americans are used to. The emotion, story, and message are more important than the music. While this song would probably not be one of my favorites for easy listening, there is no denying the musical value it has as well. Just so you know, this particular song is depicting the emotional relief the character feels after deciding to kill himself.
Actually, if a friend of yours posted this as their facebook status, I would be very concerned if i were you. It's very likely that they posted this out of admiration for the show, but it could be that they have decided that they are going to hurt themselves. I suggest you go talk to your friend.

This is like listening to the soundtrack with a picture. I'm not going to try and start another JGJ vs. Blake debate (I love them both, though), but I think that Blake live is at least on JGJ's tier, if you know what I mean.
I was lucky enough to have been in NYC for auditions and caught this show twice, once with JGJ playing the role, and once with Blake, and I have to agree that they both play the roles differently. I personally like JGJ better but that doesn't mean by any stretch of the imagination that Blake wasn't amazing, cause he was! I hope to catch this show again while it's on tour, it's definitely one of my favorites, and I've seen/been in allot of them.
i dont think this video does any justice to blake's talent. i lovelovelove his voice, and while it sounds good in this clip, these trailers always lack all the emotions and passion the actors put into their live performances. don't judge your opinion off of these.

Blake Bashoff's singing voice is a lot more feminine than JG jr. Hard to find someone who can do it like the original I guess.

sure John's version is 'the original' but Blake gave Moritz a wonderful darker side singning wise that i've come to appreciate just as much as John's awesome talent. but personally i could listen to the both of the all day haha

this is stunning. he's a phenomenal actor; the intensity of his performance is chilling. I like the way this guy interpreted the role - he was more definite and had more resolve and seemed ultimately to have more danger and mystery to him than other performers presented. I think it makes sense to have Moritz be the most dangerous character in the play - even more so than Melchior or anyone else. this guy communicates that danger really well.

@msumedanthro he's so good! but I wish everyone had the chance to see the argentinian actor who plays moritz here. he KILLS it. he truly leaves everything he has on that stage. he's like crazier and dangerous as you say, which i've seen other actors not do haha. no this one though, i saw another video with another actor and he almos looked like he was laughing... odd haha

i think blake is really excelent. deff. my next favorite moriz after John, he really made the charecter his own and didnt try to copy john, which i reallly respect.

Of course Blake isn't going to be (in my opinion) as great as John, but he is definitely number two. They play the character differently, and honestly, that's kinda what theatre is about. So basically, JGJ IS Moritz, Blake has a great portrayal of Moritz, and Gerard is rubbish. Hahahaha. I have tried and tried to like Gerard, but I just think he's terrible.

@MuchoMasturbation i agree..jgj will always be moritz to me..just as lea will always be wendla..blake is good but his voice just doesnt compare to jgj when he sings don't do sadness..im just glad they made a soundtrack with them instead of the new tour people!!

wow first of all these lyrics are beyond awfull i just saw them on someones facebook status. And to add the music to go along is even worse. What a dreadful voice. If you want real music listen to julian casablancas or the tallest man on earth or lou reed just not this guy. Hes awfull and im not here to be a jerk and just sad bad things about music i usually dont care. The point of this has less to do with the music and more with the story being told. It is art, not the vapid, easily digestible garbage most Americans are used to. The emotion, story, and message are more important than the music. While this song would probably not be one of my favorites for easy listening, there is no denying the musical value it has as well. Just so you know, this particular song is depicting the emotional relief the character feels after deciding to kill himself.

i... i do not like this. at all. don't hate though, spring awakening is amazing. i just did not like how he sang this. JGJ is sooo much better. it just sounded... wrong. if you like JGJ better you probably know what i mean.

This is like listening to the soundtrack with a picture. I'm not going to try and start another JGJ vs. Blake debate (I love them both, though), but I think that Blake live is at least on JGJ's tier, if you know what I mean.

I was lucky enough to have been in NYC for auditions and caught this show twice, once with JGJ playing the role, and once with Blake, and I have to agree that they both play the roles differently. I personally like JGJ better but that doesn't mean by any stretch of the imagination that Blake wasn't amazing, cause he was! I hope to catch this show again while it's on tour, it's definitely one of my favorites, and I've seen/been in allot of them.

i dont think this video does any justice to blake's talent. i lovelovelove his voice, and while it sounds good in this clip, these trailers always lack all the emotions and passion the actors put into their live performances. don't judge your opinion off of these.
