  • wish I could sing like Steven..damn

  • They were only a couple of years removed from a Boston bar band at this stage. Cool footage.

  • GODS.

  • Sexy Mr. Tyler

  • listen to the snare at 1:19

  • i love stevens outfit!!!!!! its realy 70s if i was a man his age i would wear that outfit!!!

  • Joe perry didnt play on the original recording nor did brad It was dick wagner and steve hunter the infamous duo of amazing guitar.

  • Aerosmith ROCKS forever! Love them all!

  • Joe Perry has the all-time tastiest guitar licks

  • Steven Tyler: Crack kills. and I'm not talking about the drug

  • can't believe that 40 years later these fuckers still rockin' our asses off

  • Ahh... early Aersomith. This shit is great.

  • Joe is all hair and nose, Where his face. So high. Kinda like slash and hidding when he is high as a kite.

  • @tomcamp6023 Joe perry is Slash`s Idol, you can say Joe perry was to Slash what Slash was to kids in the 80`s and even now. :)!!! gotta love em both. Have you seen GNR and Aerosmith doing this song in paris Live? I recommend it!

  • @jair333 Makes sense then that he played this song during Charlie Sheen's grand entrance in his Comedy Central Roast.

  • Ahh - feedback and live instruments! Damn I miss excellent concert shows like this on the old boob tube! Joe acquits himself admirably in his hero Jeff Beck's signature Yardbirds song. It does suck that they truncated the song though.

  • que hijos de puta para vestirse como maricas!

  • the phaser on the drums during the snare solo is freaking awesome

  • The real Aerosmith here, not the cheesy lame pop crap Aerosmith is putting out now.

  • @mlh53057 you are crap not aerosmith and aerosmith are not pop werent before arent now its just different kind of rock n roll

  • I can't believe that this clip is from the year I graduated high school. Gotta love the clothes! They were stylin'. Love the band and I love Steven Tyler on Idol.

  • Have have Aerosmith 3 times. All in the 70s. Drugs or not they kicked butt. The versions of this song then were awsome. This wasn't their best.

  • Why did they cut it off? How stupid. This is the best american band ever. I have loved them ever since I used to listen to my older brother's albums as a kid. First album I ever got for myself was Draw The Line I think. Saw them in 97 and they are the best live band I have ever seen. Kiss and the Chilli Peppers are great live too.

  • this is the epitome of the 70's

  • Phew. This's got to be the sexiest bass line I've ever heard. Wow. I could listen to this.... well, all night long. ;D

  • anyone see the sliver fuzzface on the ground

  • @dejiita Yeah, looks like a sliver/grey (possibly 60's germanium transistor) fuzzface! Great tone. Strat-Fuzzface-Marshall!! Peace.

  • @Yumoshrub i think its late 60's early 70's fuzz face

  • i like the slower tempo version at the start of the song... feels sexy... ;)

  • The mega-short version for Midnight Special.

  • They sound very good here despite this was right around the time of their massive drug use and boozing. Ive seen clips of them live during this era and theyve sounded terrible live.

  • Awwww Steven is so cute here<3

  • check it out Joe fuckin' Perry has so much hair you can't see his face. haha

  • @krammit69 always :)

  • lets see what you look like at his age

  • As a new judge, Tyler looks like a male to female pre-op tranny on that stupid show American Idol!

  • this version is fuckin awsome but this is ready made by the yardbirds a very good band

  • thats a pretty lady singing.

  • great band but not sure why in the day the idea was to look as gay as possible....shock and awe value I suppose...sold more records likely

  • and what year was this?

  • i can see liv tyler in steven :) ahhhhhhhh i fucking love aerosmith?!

  • Mesmerizing!

  • now aerosmith always gives good performances, thats wy i always rock them in my carr, my youth dont get ppl like this.

  • Tyler looks like a male version of Carley Simon

  • I love aerosmith but technology was needed to make these boyz a 100% better. Joe's playing like he has cardboard for fingers. A little more delay and reverd needed here huh?

  • @mrzaremba123 they don't need technology, they were just too fucked up

  • @mrzaremba123Cardboard finger. That's funny. Wonder what Joe's boys thought when dad finially explained to them that the 6th member of Aerosmith, their old producer, regularly hired professional guitarists to play cuts on albums including Toys In The Attic?

  • @ghosttracs This song is a case in point...on the album, the guitar leads are played by Dick Wagner (Alice Cooper) and Steve Hunter (Alice Cooper, Lou Reed). I would've like to see those guys rock out in this song. They are amazing to watch on old live Alice Cooper vids from the mid 70's.

  • Now we know where Slash got the inspiration for the hair in the face.

  • Midnight Special was the best musical show to ever be on US television.

  • not quite Mr. hunter on the intro solo.

  • Finally around to reading "Walk this Way" so I had to look this up and watch it. Tyler sounds great. Joe sounds scared and is ahead of the band (tempo-wise, not his performance). Can hear Tyler perfectly, but what's with the Joe-Only sound? Sounds like he's going direct into the board, except for a little of the good feedback in places.

  • i love 2 see steven tyler due the, " i need to pee pee dance" ! luv them!!! Y can't we have anything like the midnight special or don (?) krisna's rock band on t.v. now?! you'd think with all of those stations something good would be on!

  • This is a great version of this song, but the yardbirds version is the best one.

  • Hey, what's those drag queens doin' playing my song?

  • I can tell by this performance that sobriety has served all of them well!

  • I liked Steve's early voice on the first two Aerosmith lps! So bluesy, so "Robert Johnson" sounding! What a shame that he got raspier with time, by "Walk This Way" he didn't sound any different than Rod Stewart!

  • @notfragile33

Dude Walk This Way came out a year after this video. But you're right overall, he was a much better singer in the early years.

  • nice bass lines

  • joe perry = one of the most underrated guitarist of all time

  • @Dilson9307 haha yeah right those solos are pathetic! Sad really!

  • @slowJams88 i still think hes awesome and one of the greats when it comes to riffs and solos :P

  • it's really sad that brad's guitar isn't in the mix at all. also, they're collectively hammered off jd. (even though this was recorded in the AM). This is really the earliest Aerosmith video out there, and it's sad they're not captured at their best.

  • Nice to see perry and whitford mix it up with a strat and les paul. Check out ac/dc from the same night. I think Bon and Angus ripped their aero's heads off!

  • Love Aerosmith singing this - thanks for the upload!

  • Nice gold coke straw on Joe's necklace

  • @alanbmx321 I don't see that.

  • @alanbmx321 they didn't call them the "Toxic Twins" for nuthin... lol

  • Holy shit! What a great find THIS one is! Reminds me of seeing them locally, BEFORE they became famous. AWESOME!!!

  • I wonder what he can do with this lips... ;>

  • @rorygg1: You can have the Yardbirds version. I 'll take Johnny Burnette's original.

  • wow!what a performance, amazing

  • Man those marshalls sound worn out..Some leftover hippie still around in the 70's at the time probably ripped off his mxr distortion from the previous show, and sold it to the nearest pawn shop to cop dope..Or Joe pawned it himself..!aH

  • i'm glad joe perry switched to gibson, the tone fits him better. great playing, regardless.

  • im reading walk this way (the aerosmith autobiography) and apperently wen they filmed this joe was almost to drunk and stoned to stand up but he still sounds great hes just that good

  • @theawsomeposum I love these guys, I always have going back to Monsters of Rock, but I gotta admit the Boys seemed to start off a little slow on this take. Of course, they pulled it out famously which only lead to more drugs and alcohol on stage and off. And as much a fan as I am of medicinal plants, I gotta say seeing Brad, Joey, Tom, Joe, and Steven in the last few years has been a real treat. The band went through some patches but only came out tighter! Hope they do more of the blues again.

  • Phenominal quality!

  • Better than the Stones.........listen to all the albums, its hard to hear but true.

Some people are good at what they do,............this is a great example.

    You cant look away.

  • @guitarttimman

Tyler is so great, maybe the best vocalist alive. But Freddie was so 'god' above. Sorry.

I love aerosmith, so it's hard to say, but almost every legendary band become fool at songwriting as getting old. Same goes for aerosmith.. simply they couldn't get over it. Oh, see how poor JPP was.

Well, however, Queen came through it and made tremendous albums until 'Made In Heaven'. They're one of the best bands of history.

Aerosmith is sure legend, but don't be impolite.

  • It must have been a knock on Joe Perry's confidence that they had other guitar players play on this in the studio version, as well as on "Same Old Song and Dance" and Joe Perry wrote that tune.

  • @theShowStopper321 Yeah...who was it Dick Wagner..???He's AWESOME....kind of an unsung hero. But Joe was just starting out..maybe he understood..?

    thx for the info!

  • @stingray1964 It was guy by the name of Steve Hunter ... I just found this out, all these years I thought it was Joe.

  • @stringbenderE2E I'm not even sure what my original comment was...but Yes Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner are two amazing sessions players from Detroit.

    Rock on...!!

  • @theShowStopper321 not at all. he was lead guitarist. actually it must have been worse for brad whitford because he is a great guitarist but has to play rythm because joe is better. and then the other person is bass

  • @theShowStopper321 this was writen way before aerosmith i want to say it was a blues song in like the 50s and then the yardbirds made it popular in the 60s and aerosmith is doing their cover of the yardbirds cover

  • The American version of the Stones

  • @lamons71the Dolls

  • I don't even like queen, but i think they deserve respect, they have given a lot to music and they have talent

  • @sueellen360 lets see, what does queen deserve? a rock band and a guitar hero game, more special albums respect from the rolling stones magazine and a daily dose of a tremendous fan base all over the world and counting...

  • Ends too soon!

  • This is when they were in their prime and well on the road to self destruction. Rocks is the best album they ever did

  • Aerosmith, on the other hand, was always one of my favorite bands, and my favorite album by them is GET YOUR WINGS! That music is the "coolest" of cool and nothing short of genius!

  • Some unseen force drives my eyes to look at Steven Tyler's butt every time he turns around!

  • Aerosmith YES - Queen NO

Queen was a fag band I never liked them!

  • @guitarttimman That's a stupid and rude thing to say dude. Aerosmith is incredible too, but Queen is one of the biggest selling bands in history, Did it really matter that Freddie was gay? I really don't think so.

I don't even see how Queen's music resembles Aerosmith's. They're both awesome but so different.

  • @MultiTheMadHatter

I do not care what you think! You got that? Queen SOUNDED like fags! I DO NOT LIKE FAG MUSIC!

  • @guitarttimman And they made a bazillion dollars, influenced scores of musicians, set new standards for music, wrote timeless music, and you post meaningless words here on Youtube. They win, you lose.

  • @laurierken

win? lose? I just said I don't like their music! Queen, in my opinion, SUCKED!

And seriously, I don't think they did all that good as winners either because the lead singer did die from aids and the money he made is now useless to him!

  • @guitarttimman I'm at a loss for words. I've heard about utter morons, your the first 'real' moron I've encountered. Incredible.

  • @guitarttimman Wow I feel sorry for you. Too bad you just can enjoy how great Queen was. Freddie may have died, but he left behind a legacy as one of the, if not the greatest, rock singer of all time, and influenced so much of today's music. You DO lose.

  • @MultiTheMadHatter

Is there a law mandating that I like them? I think they sucked. That's my opinion and I am entitled to it! Now leave me alone.

  • @guitarttimman Regardless of whether or not you liked Queen or their music, that does not entitle you the right to call them a 'fag band'. That is a derogatory, stereotypical statment that makes you seem rude and ignorant. There's a little thing called the Constitution of the United States of America, but I doubt you've read it.

  • Some early Queen was much more straightforward rock ("Great King Rat", "Liar", "Stone Cold Crazy") but I doubt it had any influence on Aerosmith. Queen's self titled debut in 1973 came one year after Aerosmith's self title debut. "Get Your Wings", which contains "Train Kept A Rollin", was released in 1974 and wasn't a huge departure in sound for the band (blues/rock) so I can't see how Queen, who isn't blues/rock by any means, could have been an influence.

  • Brad Whitford needs turning up.

  • Aerosmith are a great band! I wish the t.v. networks would bring back shoes like Midnight Special or In Concert! Instead of all these damn talk shows!

  • Does anyone else see a TON of influence from Queen here?

  • @slaphappy27 Queen? As in Brian May? I would say no. Aerosmith had 2 albums out before anyone heard of Queen in the US.

  • Hands down the best American Rock n Roll Band

  • Steven is so sexy! best midnight special ever! I even have this one on dvd!

    ^^(A)^^

  • I first got to see them live in 1978...I knew they would be huge! All my friends liked Rush which was cool but I was a total Aerosmith fan. I got a back stage pass later when Toys in the Attic came out...You should have been there, that's all I can say...

  • Fuck yeah I remember staying up to watch this!! For real! Been a fan for many years, this was a great time in the Aerosmith story. Well mostly, hahaha..

    Long live ^A^ baby!

  • @CaliforniaDebi I meant music wise a "good time". We were all mostly so fucked up who remembers it all BUT I can say we had some rockin jams!!! haha

  • Back when Aerosmith was a real rock band.......

  • what hapend there with Stiven Tyler????

    he dosnt look good...

  • Comment removed

  • they must have all been drunk cause there playing like shit

  • I wish I could sing this well when I'm drunk. As any singer would tell you, being drunk mess your tones a lot (you can barely feel your own voice). So, this is my way of saying Steven Tyler has always rocked hard.

  • yeah, and even in 1977 when he was even worst w/ drugs he did a killer job, he rocks hard.

and the same w/ the others, if they were another ppl they couldnt even stand in their feets

  • Tom Hamilton referenced this show in their book "Walk This Way" on page 221 (hardcover). He says they woke up before dawn to get loaded so they could be as drunk at 10 a.m. for the taping as they were for their usual night gigs. Because they weren't used to being drunk so early, they really sucked.

  • The Train was their drug intake ALL NIGHT LOAWWNG

  • Ha Steve looks like a chick

  • Putaspellonyou, you deserve to be shot dead 4 that comment.

  • @Putaspellonyou hey, if you don't like but it's great, everybody don't like the same things, but if i don't like something i cant say it not good because of my taste

  • @Putaspellonyou I HATE YOU! AEROSMITH IS AMAZING AND YOU SUCK!

  • @Putaspellonyou

Oh that's just wrong. I disagree, that was still funny.

  • nasal full of coke LOL

  • yea Tyler is still up rocking and recovering!

  • okay well tbh, imo, this pretty much owns the Yardbirds... it's anyway totally wrong that its no even close to the yeardbirds version..

  • @detoth67 aerosmith has done it better

  • Here's the definitive version. WIth alternate lyrics

    watch?v=_zeza1xeWKM

  • And another

    watch?v=hPfpUv4hUOw

  • God they sounded so raw and fresh back then, almost like a garage band you heard jamming on a Saturday night in the old hood.

  • Joe K. is playing a FIBES drum kit! Cool.

  • WOO GO AEROSMITH! AlTHOUGH YOU MAY HAVE BROKEN UP YOU WILL STILL BE PLAYING LIVE IN MY MEMORIES! IM ONLY 11 BUT THE STUFF FROM 60s, 70s, and 80s IS THE REAL STUFF AND I SHALL NEVER FORGET THAT!

  • @tigercub1998 dont worry, they haven't broken up, just upset with the events of the last tour. Steve and joe both came up and announced the runors were false. :) So they shouldn't be going anywhere for a while!

  • Kid when I was ten Nine Lives album was released, it was 12 years ago, and then they also had problems, but they haven't split up. they came through alot, and they survived. The same nowadays. So don't worry, and hope that they will survive this little crisis:)

  • Actually when they cleaned up they wrote some good stuff too like on nine lives! Thats an amazing kick ass album so yeah.

  • kewl Thx..

  • So Do I ... Joe Was The Shit back then.... As Was Aerosmith Too bad The Drugs Took Over and the Next Thirty yrs Passed in a BLur... they Sure don't Write em like this any longer... the First Five Albums only for Me Please... or was it Six...? hehe "Night in the Ruts" is the Last of the Best... in My Book.

  • agree, i'd be fine if they didnt write another song after 1980

  • haha love in an elevator and i dont wanna miss a thing aren't good enough?

  • Wow you're a fag.

  • haha this is actually a cover, made famous by them, not many people know that.

  • I knew that... But it is one of my All time faves from them.. btw the Original is Great as is the Yardbirds version Happy Holidays

  • haha It's all good, its a fav from me too, fun to play on the drums. its a great song no matter what, and same to you

  • johnny burnette? 1956?

  • @steve89z "Train Kept A-Rollin" is a song written by Tiny Bradshaw, Howard Kay, and Lois Mann. Bradshaw first recorded the song in 1951- his best known recording. After a rock and roll version of the song was recorded and released by Johnny Burnette and the Rock and Roll Trio in 1956, numerous other such versions have been recorded since" I suppose so

  • man i love this song. you ever get the feeling that you were born in the wrong time? I wish i was born in the early to mid 60s, young enough to enjoy these bands in their hay day,

  • Born in '61. And I'm on the Live Bootleg album (one of the screaming horde in Chicago). Still wasn't old enough to see these guys in their prime. Would have to have been born in '56-'57 to be the 'right' aged. Still, mid-70's rock was a very unique era, like '69 and '58.

  • AWESOME !!!!!!1

  • gawddamn steven is HOTT

  • Oh yeah he is :)

  • @freakinoneillster fuck off you faggot hes a fucking homo

    like you '

  • @freakinoneillster LMAO..Last time I saw a mouth like that it had a Hook in it!

  • today, on august 6, 1974 this video came out on the midnight special. isnt that weird??/

  • i approve of the phasered drums

  • steven tyler could easily bite my head off. and i think it would be an honorable death.

  • great

  • @TheStonerpreneur Yes, yes it would be an honerable death.

  • Comment removed

  • Aerosmith is the best band EVER! I grew up with the rock music, but in the begining of my life I didn't knew anything about Aerosmith, but now I know so much more than alot of my friends...

  • Do you know that on the original from "Get Your Wings", all guitars are actually Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter? The two best ever imo.

  • this is awsome! i saw an infomertial for this on tv and then i saw aerosmith so i looked this up. i luv seeing aerosmith things from the 70s. its so cool. plus steven looks AMAZING. STEVEN TYLER= SEXIEST MAN ALIVE!!!

  • totaly agree!! smokin hot!!! and i love tom hamilton's outfit. haha. it makes me laugh =D

  • i love all their outfits! especially stevens theyre so amazing and cool! or funny XD lol

  • lol. yeah. steven is a sexy beast. i love his outfits and the gypsy scarfs and stuff. hes so hotttttt

  • he doesnt wear as crazy stuff anymore on stage tho :( lol but i luv his outfits. :)

  • true, but hes still hot. i was so mad cuz i had tickets to see them play last week but steven hurt his leg so the show got cancelled. they said theyr rescheduling tho so i hope i can go.

  • i know! i talk to someone who said he ripped his quad? i pulled my quad b4. it hurts like hell. but at least theyre reschedualing it. do u have good seats? i saw them june 13 but my seats sucked :P

  • nah i have horrible seats but i dont even care. just being there in his prescence is good enough for me!

  • i know! thats how i felt. i really hope one day i can meet him. itll probably never happen tho :/

  • yeah. me 2. my friend greg is one of their guitar techs so he got me some of their guitar picks but he said stevens a real dick and has the whole rockstar complex thing goin on. i dont even care tho. id still love to meet him!

  • HAH hes probably just jealous hes not as amazing as steven XD

  • lol. yeah nothing anyone says could possibly make me dislike him. hes so amazing. omg, you have to read the bands autobiography called walk this way. i got it at borders for like 15 bucks and it was like the best book ever!! you should really read it!!

  • i know! i want it so bad! i havent gotten it yet tho. i hope i can get it soon. i want to read it really bad!
