You can walk the trail all the way back to the falls... it is a great walk, and you can fish just downstream from the falls and catch plenty... You just have to walk them out a bit.. You can keep walking to the lake and get to the Barber Cabin... Nice cabin to stay in over night.. on the lake with a boat and all... it is a Forest Service cabin so you can RENT IT...!! COOL PLACE... One of my favorites in Alaska!!!!

Hey Bob. Very Cool Video. I live in Alaska, but have never fished the upper Russian. What do you typically use to fish for Silvers and Sockeyes?

The first few holes they're fishing are just downstream from the Grayling parking area stairs. Pretty popular on the Russian.
Once silvers/reds hit fresh water, they typically stop feeding. Sockeyes are almost always "lined".
Silvers may strike out of aggression, but they'll typically spook before you have a chance to present something to them.
If you can keep a steady presentation, you can get to the silvers ... esp. when there are lots of spawning reds shielding their view.
Fish ON!
