you need to make a much wider notch. your axe isn't cutting efficently when its contacting the wood at a 90 degree angle. you want a 45 degree angle to cut efficently.

Now for the fun part: getting rid of the stump. :) I remember trying to remove stumps as a kid with a mattock and an axe. Seemed like no matter how many roots I chopped, there was always one more.

i'm sorry but what i mean is i hade one of them axe's befor and it work like shit

for me. but if you can lift 75 lb for a long time you can use a 2 1/2 lb axe with out being tired. i'm useing a 10 lb axe now and it wus hard as hell to use at first.

so wus a 1 1/2 lb axe at first. and a cold steel shovel is a flat axe if you did not know it's sharp on all sides
