one of my favorite songs! it makes me cry when i listen to it, as i listen i pray this song for god to guide me through these tramendous troubles i am going through
HUGHES , JOHN from Wales ( 1873 - 1932 ), composer of this hymn-tune to the words of Ann Griffiths from Wales (April 1776 – August 1805) She died following childbirth aged 29, She left behind a handful of stanzas in the Welsh language
We African Americans just sing this differently than the way this song is normally performed. Folks, it's OK. Let's calm and praise the Lord TOGETHER!
Well said, Tony! I heartily agree. I understand that the original "Cwm Rhondda" used the Divine name, Jehovah. Sir Harry Secombe has also chosen to use the Name in his version, and so have "Men Only Aloud". I was somewhat disappointed that Katherine Jenkins chose to sing "redeemer". But no matter. The Name will and is being made known.
This song is addressed to our great and loving creator Jehovah, I love it! Check your own Bible in Psalms 83:18 where he confirms his personal name for us to use. In fact he uses this personal name nearly 7,000 times in the old testament. The churches seem to hate his name though, I wonder why?
I would like to know at what point the tune the Americans sing got altered from the original Welsh version, the first "Feed me till I want no more" line should all be the same note and should note follow the tenor line. I find it really annoying!
@MeinnameistDreck I like that my brother! I am an African but when I see a white man I see my brother or my sister same as when i see a black man. For me skin colour does not mean anything and if we can realize this the world would be a better place.
@11shan23 You have a choice. Instead of ranting at the absence of the "Black version" (and I do presume you know two Welshmen wrote / composed this song) , try and find a version you like and post it. This uploader has spent hours to post these glorious songs which lift our souls in worship and gratitude. Maybe you could follow her example.
Thank you for my life, Lord. Please, use me to make the world a better place. Help me to nurture love where there is hatred; joy where there is sadness; and hope where there is hopelesness. These are my passion, Lord. To you be the glory till the end of time.
i sang this song every tuesday and thursday in Wellington College, New Zealand, and i'm an international student too, but inever understand what is its meaning. :-(
I sympathize with you 85511813086. It is basically someone who is weary, confused and repressed by the challenges and trials of this present life appealing to He who can save and deliver us, He who is the fount all wisdom and strength and nourishment, He who loves to be our sustenance, the Lord God Jesus Christ to intervene and give the person rest, comfort and guidance. It is our universal plea as mankind, yet it is a singular plea that each of us honest to themself can personalize.
I giggled at the sheep. Because Wales.... XD

We are the sheep of his pasture. Jesus is the Great Shepherd. He laid his life down for the sheep.

@ElderPinkerton I have NO PROBLEM with being a sheep following JESUS as the GREAT SHEPHERD ~~> NOT even a SLAVE to HIM.

This hymn was written by a white man. Jehovah made all of us, white or black. Get over yourself.

Isn't this the one that was allegedly Princess Di's favorite hymn? I'm Presbyterian and this is one that's sung at almost every funeral.
satcher2001 1 year ago
Diana's favorite hymn was "I Vow to Thee, My Country." It was sung at her wedding as well as her funeral.
