Beeeeeeeutiful! If TVR's had better build quality and reliability, they would be the best sports cars in the world. I HAVE to get a Chimaera at some point...
@superdooperroofer Yep, based on the alloy Buick 215, but substantially rewored to suit British cars and production methods. By the time this TVR was built it had been stretched from its original 3.5 litres to 4.0 or 4.6 out of the factory, and specialists have stretched them to as much s 5.3 with over 520bhp. Not bad for a 40+ year old engine design.
Mine is in this weekend getting a sleeved silencer ready for the Thunder in the Tunnels run later this month - 150+ tvrs cruising London early on a sunday - awesomeness on a stick!
HC on the V8 stands for high compression not hotter cam.. the 4.0 ltr HC engine runs a slightly higher compression ratio to the 4.0 ltr . The cam profile is the same in both engines.
NOPE! HIGH LIFT CAM!!!! Same cam as the 5.0. The 5.0 also had a badge saying HC and some didnt... come people think they are different, they arent. Comp ratio on all TVRR8s is about the same... actually qute high anyway! Look it up in the TVR literature or the Steve Heath bible. Make sure of your facts before correcting someone! thanks.
Probably the only car you buy because of how it sounds. Who needs a Radio?
Always fancied one. Probably too old now. Would struggle to get in it. Would forgive all the idiosyncracies just to marvel at that soundtrack every day.
Just have to stick with my Stag and take the Radio out.
This was mine for 12 months! M305 Bloody Loud Noise! It spat flames out the back on full chat between gears! Im having another one! mots aren't a problem when you know the right people.
it is quite simple actually. you have to go through the trouble of putting them back on then taking them off again once you finish the test. and if you dont know what your doing, you have to pay for some mechanic to do it each time.
yeah true, bit like slick tyres, there not illeagle on british roads, because of of the grip they provide, just a ball ache changing them all the time
lol @ slick tyres. who in their right mind would try to run them on the road? you need to get proper amounts of heat into them to get them to work properly, and that's not going to happen on the A48 now, is it?
If you want "slick" tyres for the road you are much better off going for some track-biased road-legal semi-slicks like the Yokohama A048s or Toyo 888s.
you'd gain no advantage by running slicks on a road car.
my point is, slicks are all but useless on the road, even if they were legal. As I said before, you would gain no benefit over something like the R888s I mentioned before - infact slicks would probably be worse.
racetrack surfaces are a LOT smoother than just a normal road. you can go a lot faster on a track as well, which of course helps to build heat in the tyres. you will NOT be able to get the tyres up to an effective temperature on the road. Slicks are pointelss on the road, and probably bordering on dangerous
Actally, there are many free programs out there that you can install and set an alarm on your computer AND here's the kicker - you can set your own sounds :) record that beast and put it on PC Alarm or something.
I've got 2 30W guitar amplifiers in my room, and I can hook them both up to the audio out on my laptop to make 60W of pure TVR grunt, if I ever need to get up in a hurry that is ;)
Look for "TVR Sagaris Start london", that sounds nice through my setup.
Sounds like a '69 Charger at idle and a Zonda when revving! :D

Try RPi engineering. I'm sure that they can put this engine in a stag for very sensible money.

Oh, and slick tyres ARE illegal. minimum tread depth you have to have is 1.6mm... slicks have NO tread.

in the dry - on a track.
