And for people to say that we are brainwashed is very harsh, I have been brought up to respect people, be polite, have very high morals and to basically do the best to my ability. People always comment on how polite and caring I am. I have never been forced into going to meetings or the ministry. I appreciate that not everyone has had it easy growing up as a JW, but atleast we don't agree with war and harming others. I'm just putting my point across, not trying to convert anyone.
The religion isn't for everyone, but it doesn't mean that life gets easier. Several people I know who have left the religion have ended up sleeping around, having kids at young ages and then turn out to be really fake, wheras my friends in the religion are always honest with me. I know you have to be careful, and yes there are the few who will go totally over the top and shun you, which I do not agree with at all, but that's up to the individual, that's not Jehovah's fault. x

Spirituality is a gift from God, which is akin to your statement regarding buddhism. Exercise, find a support group, you are loved.

I just watched your video and I hope that you are ok. I was raised to as a JW. I stopped going to meetings when I was about 16, when I could choose on my own. My mother was and still is a JW. My father was not, rather he was a non practicing Catholic. My father has since passed away. I do have a very good relationship with my mother still. A friend of mine was a JW for 22years. Her life is in a difficult downward spiral now, ihave a gut feeling she will rejoin. She has started to shut herself off and looks at me as the enemy (stares etc) She has not been a JW for 15 years.... I think the world of her :(

I wanted to remove it from view to avoid anyone I know finding out about it and leading to problems in my life and possibly losing a job offer or family member that is a JW. Listening to you is like listening to s recording of my own thoughts and feelings. For me self-esteem is nearly non-existent, and though subsided I still live with some fear of being shunned (I however am baptized). Depression is also a daily struggle.
I deal with a lot of social anxiety after leaving myself. It's not easy. In many ways I feel like I'm working at something that my peers did years ago. But it's getting better and easier to deal with. If you haven't already, check out some of the exJW recovery groups on facebook. There are lots of awesome people on, and it's a great place to vent and discuss how you're feeling.

I have an aunt in there, and was once in love with a girl who was or still is. My mom joined one time as well. I was able to resist all those times, but the time I almost fell in was from an online Bible translation that was presented as objectively translated, however turned out to be a trap. WT goes for your mind, where LDS goes for your heart. 2 fronts we have to be aware of.

Everything you mentioned I can relate to. I was also raised as one by my grandparents who adopted me when I was two. That, on top of some personal stuff happening when I was a baby, it did not help my case much. I made some "wordly" friends over the years but I never had a "true" friend, nor have I ever had a relationship before. I'm 21 now and I've just taken one day at a time and at least for me come to accept that I may have to take the solo road for my life.

@carolLDickinson Well it's not just corrupted, like by mistake. If you pull on each string where they made a change, it soon becomes apparent, that it was with purpose. For one thing, knowing where they made the changes, gives them limited areas to contend on. And fresh people flowing through there all the time make it easy to downplay all the times people leave cause they figure it out.

I feel your pain. Officially, I'm still "in God's light", but I'm actually an agnostic. I too have been disillusioned by what I learned on the internets, but I was able to take it in anyways (at least, much better than how I'd imagine how you took it). However, this reminds me of a quote by Karl Marx: "Religion is the Opium of the People." In this case, you and I both stopped taking the opium (Jehovah's Witnesses indoctrination) and took the pain, yet accepted it as part reality.

@borissman One more thing - I think that many people who accuse JWs of being a cult often either belong to other faiths or denominations which clash with JWs in doctrine (an example being those who also take issue with JWs denying the teaching of the Trinity), or are heated anti-theists, who see many religions as a means of control, and see a committed, zealous group like JWs as a particular example of this.

The best advice I could give is not to rely too heavily on the opinion of either side, whether JWs or ex-JWs, but to look at each side objectively with an open mind. Don't accept everything at face value, continue to do research (preferably from objective sources, but that's difficult in such a heated topic), and if you're still spiritual, pray for guidance.
Wow, your honesty and sincerity is refreshing. I can identify with a lot of what you recount here. The tipping point for me was the idea that an almighty and knowing god would want to discourage education. And 20+ years after gradually abandoning their isolating, delusional fantasies I've never come across any "world" that bears the slightest resemblance to the one that the WT organization likes to portray.
I hope you stay positive and heal yourself there is a lot out here to help you, get into some natural healing and meditation or yoga to gain strength. Even if you become a buddist that is great what ever it takes to heal your soul and become one with the universe.
JWs are false all the deaths they have caused over the many many years are being exposed to people in there, but so many are taught to run away from anyone speaking against it and this is why it continues to blind people.

And for people to say that we are brainwashed is very harsh, I have been brought up to respect people, be polite, have very high morals and to basically do the best to my ability. People always comment on how polite and caring I am. I have never been forced into going to meetings or the ministry. Several people I know who have left the religion have ended up sleeping around, having kids at young ages and then turn out to be really fake, wheras my friends in the religion are always honest with me. I deal with a lot of social anxiety after leaving myself. It's not easy. In many ways I feel like I'm working at something that my peers did years ago. But it's getting better and easier to deal with. If you haven't already, check out some of the exJW recovery groups on facebook. There are lots of awesome people on, and it's a great place to vent and discuss how you're feeling.

I have an aunt in there, and was once in love with a girl who was or still is. My mom joined one time as well. I was able to resist all those times, but the time I almost fell in was from an online Bible translation that was presented as objectively translated, however turned out to be a trap. Everything you mentioned I can relate to. I was also raised as one by my grandparents who adopted me when I was two. That, on top of some personal stuff happening when I was a baby, it did not help my case much. I made some "wordly" friends over the years but I never had a "true" friend, nor have I ever had a relationship before. I'm 21 now and I've just taken one day at a time and at least for me come to accept that I may have to take the solo road for my life.

@carolLDickinson Well it's not just corrupted, like by mistake. If you pull on each string where they made a change, it soon becomes apparent, that it was with purpose. For one thing, knowing where they made the changes, gives them limited areas to contend on. And fresh people flowing through there all the time make it easy to downplay all the times people leave cause they figure it out.

@dudew8 - She doesn't hate her family, nor the other members under the mind control of the organization. And that's what matters. She dislikes the mind control governing her familys' bone-headed decisions. Ex Jw's know that it's not the JW rank and file who are the source of the mind control. The WT society are.
When you have a con man wanting your hard earned money, do you choose to be guillable, or do you choose to use skeptisism? It's not all logical...just use discernment.

JW is not true Christianity. It is a false gospel and is itself a demon doctrine. Please don't throw off all of Christianity because of the way the Jehovah's Witnesses treated you. In true Christianity there is forgiveness and grace. We're broken people who have many faults but Christ is the center and he is our example. Please consider reading the Bible again and let it speak for itself. Jesus is calling you out of this world to be his and his alone. Flee from sin and turn to Christ. God bless!

Wow you and me have lot in common .. i get depression and crap you going thru plus i was force to go jw church when since i was a baby..it's something i didn't believe in i wanted freedom thinking..as a kid i love draw monster and stuff but my mom made me believe all those things are wrong. all my childhood i wanted to kill myself since everything i like was consider wrong or to demonic..in fact i had go thru therapy

Im so sorry for what youve been through..Im disfellowshipped and ive been trying to go back after ten years..All i can say is that regardless We are ALL imperfect...Ive been through hardships as well,and there is No perfect JW,thats why I cant base it on other people or their opinions,im not going to the KHalls for THEM..with all the horrible things that are going on in the world,the LIES for Greed and power while so many suffer and die ..it just all makes sense to me..I hope u find happiness!

@cooper79jeffr: I got your msg & you asked if I'm saying she's blind, no, she is fully aware of her decision. My brother is agnostic, once he turned 18, stopped going to meetings. He is not shunned, JW's people follow closely in Jesus footsteps & Jesus loved mankind.Our publications are tools we use to enhance learning. As for the blood issue we have many other alternatives to blood that studies show that are safer then blood. So I for 1 am proud to be 1 of JW's & serve the 1 true God.

Witnesses are very nice people, but you are all in a fog as to what your own organization The Watch Tower and Bible Track Society does behind the scenes. You are told not to question the organization & follow what the Faithful & Discreet Slave (a group of secret men) dish out as God's Word. people don't abandon relatives because they want to, they just realize that if i keep my ties with this individual I'll be led right into destruction along side them, when people leave the organization they not only feel they need to leave but talk crap and come up with their own reasons as to why others should leave,and for what just to be a lost atheist with no hope what so ever? i know better than listen to some undecisive heathen that has nothing better to but stumble others, just like satin

@leeysang How r JW willing to kill themselves? If your going to say because we don't take blood, well let's get informed. The bible states to abstain from blood. A commandment from our Creator. Now, just bcause we don't take blood means we are wanting to die. There are alternatives to blood, some doctors prefer not to use it. There has been bloodless open heart surgury done. I think your confusing us with other catholics condoning & blessing war against their people of their same religion. hmm?

A. on amazon books, I do not think you have any illness I think you are young was in the KH and you were Awake...GET COLLEGE.....you made some very through videos you can put sentences together, you are NOT crazy. just get job skills, medical billing classes from community college pays well for the money out......you are young enough to have a happy rest of your life, yes old testiment is the blood thirsty book I ever read at KH.

You are not alone. Keep your head up and never go back. Don't forget that God loves you and He will hear your prayers. Ask him to continue to show you the truth about this religion and to take your fears concerning them away. I did and it worked. I left after 29 years and haven't looked back. God bless you.

Don't let your past come between you and your joy, that is only found in Jesus Christ. You gained life by leaving the cult down at the "Hall" and their "meetings", they don't call it church because it isn't church. I feel your pain. Officially, I'm still "in God's light", but I'm actually an agnostic. I too have been disillusioned by what I learned on the internets, but I was able to take it in anyways (at least, much better than how I'd imagine how you took it). However, this reminds me of a quote by Karl Marx: "Religion is the Opium of the People." In this case, you and I both stopped taking the opium (Jehovah's Witnesses indoctrination) and took the pain, yet accepted it as part reality.

they brain wash and hurt u mentally and emotionaly so bad that when u drive past a kingdom hall all the bad memories come back. For example a soldier that has been in combat will have night mares and such problems their whole life from it. Likewise being an ex witness stays w/ u sadly. But i can say im far happier being rid of that religion than i would be if i were still in it!!!! :)

@borissman One more thing - I think that many people who accuse JWs of being a cult often either belong to other faiths or denominations which clash with JWs in doctrine (an example being those who also take issue with JWs denying the teaching of the Trinity), or are heated anti-theists, who see many religions as a means of control, and see a committed, zealous group like JWs as a particular example of this.
What I'm saying is to also note any motive behind what one may say. Best wishes

The best advice I could give is not to rely too heavily on the opinion of either side, whether JWs or ex-JWs, but to look at each side objectively with an open mind. Don't accept everything at face value, continue to do research (preferably from objective sources, but that's difficult in such a heated topic), and if you're still spiritual, pray for guidance.
Just some objective guidelines I could suggest :)

Wow, your honesty and sincerity is refreshing. I can identify with a lot of what you recount here. The tipping point for me was the idea that an almighty and knowing god would want to discourage education. And 20+ years after gradually abandoning their isolating, delusional fantasies I've never come across any "world" that bears the slightest resemblance to the one that the WT organization likes to portray.

I hope you stay positive and heal yourself there is a lot out here to help you, get into some natural healing and meditation or yoga to gain strength. Even if you become a buddist that is great what ever it takes to heal your soul and become one with the universe.
JWs are false all the deaths they have caused over the many many years are being exposed to people in there, but so many are taught to run away from anyone speaking against it and this is why it continues to blind people.
