For the truth about religion try Robert M. Price, ' The reason driven life ' or John W. Loftus or Victor J. Stenger, ' God, the failed hypothesis' . Also interesting to have a look at the 1500BCE papyrus of Ani, with its god Osiris who weighs the heart to decide who can pass to the land of the living.[ The need to know the names of the gods & the negative confession & other magic texts to get there]. James Frazer's 'The Golden Bough' and C.S. Lewis, 'Mere Christianity'
my heart cries out for the church today.. But what can I do? It's quite hard, all I can do is cry out to God to open the eyes of His people... no longer is the word preached enough, nor do Christians really desire to make disciples... specially of all nations.... just heart breaking
...holy name no more with your gifts, & with your idols.
In chapters 1-3 God commissions his servant Ezekiel. He receives visions & his message is to confront God's sinful nation. Ezekiel 22 verse 2.
You need to read Ezekiel, & not just read but understand the message there in.
The fruit will only be truly known when Jesus returns. No one of us can know who is saved and who is not. I can see now that there is nothing I can say to you that will be of any council to you, therefore I say farewell.
Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
The world and all its trappings has, and is still corrupting The Church,- (which is the people & not the building) Stop all activities within the church & instead; Meet together for prayer. Seek The Lord in & for all things.
1 Corinthians Ch: 15 v: 45 And so it is written,The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Pray that The Lord will speak to you all.
praising God together, with one purpose and one voice. Our hearts would be purposefully on The Lord and giving Him all the glory honour and praise. satan is subtle, for years we Christians have been self edifying. We have been so busy organising this and that, that we have lost all purpose, the true purpose why we are here on earth, which is to do our Fathers will. Spread the good news. To give hope and purpose back to all mankind through the only way possible. John 3v16....
But when we are using these abilities/gifts to entertain ourselves when we are in fellowship together with The Lord, then we are placing the focus on ourselves and not on The Lord. To justify their actions, some would say that they are playing their drums or base guitar for The Lord, but I would say, how does that glorify God within the fellowship of the church? How does God get the glory from that person playing that? Where as if we were singing praises with our voices, we would all be ...
@cheryl7davis Jesus said judge not lest ye be judged. I think we both agree that christians should not use there gift like playing music to glorify themselves. But why shun a brother or sister by judging them, and making a preconcieved accusation against them. Maybe you should check the plank in your own eye before you cast judgment on someone who's probably doing what God called them to do. God's job to judge & our job to love. (A talent is a weight measurment of about a 75 lbs, not coins)
@dzagarman ...we can at least warn men of its existence, and entreat them to keep out of it. When the old faith is gone, and enthusiasm for the gospel is extinct, it is no wonder that people seek something else in the way of delight (entertainment). Lacking bread, they feed on ashes: rejecting the way of the Lord, they run greedily in the path of folly.
@cheryl7davis I agree that many are going about it wrong, but I'm not going to cast judgment. God want to reveal Himself to this generation in a mighty way. The real church is hitting the pavement; & operating in the power of the Holy Spirit. Winning souls with a demonstation of Gods love and power. True holiness come with true grace & true fear of the Lord. Yes some go overboard, but dont throw the baby out with the bath water. He came to set the captives free, not enslave them with religion.
@cheryl7davis Satan plan is to corrupt the believer with mans wisdom. When God does something that disrupts the religious system, like displaying His power, moving in prophetic. signs & wonders. The enemy will always combat that by using the pride of self holiness, self righteousness, and manmade religion. We are to lay our gifts & talents on the alter like Isaac so God can resurrect them. Satan doesn't want that to happen. He knows how powerful our gift can be when empowered by the Holy Spirit.
@cheryl7davis There is absolutly nothing wrong with using our gifts & talents to spread the gospel. As long as it is by His Spirit, not by our might. God is a very creative God. His Word lights up the heavens. He is a mighty warrior with a relentless passion for His most prize creation; mankind. He is a lover. The earth is His footstool. There is none higher. He put the gifts in us! Jesus came against the religious system 2000 years ago & He still is in this generation. He will be glorified.
I think it interesting that your reply to the comment I last posted was such that you saw it as my own judging of others, yet ALL the words written were not mine, but that of Mr Charles H Spurgeon which I directly quoted word for word. I did not do this trick you, nor to lesson the importance of Mr Spurgeon so relevant a message that is also so prophetic.
"Any faith that must be supported by the evidence of the senses is not real faith."
@cheryl7davis I'm not to concerned about who said it. Why would you want to focus your attention on mans wisdom. In the whole paragraph you quoted word for word not one line was backed up by the Word of God. All these guys are attacking & pointing the finger at the christians who truely understand that they are free to be who God created them to be. Guess What, they have real fruit. So who is the the real leven in the loaf? Who are the one's coming against Gods people?
So according to your own wisdom I shouldn't even listen to you either! Or any man!
I focus my attention on the Bible first and foremost, but we also do learn from others whom God has given Biblical wisdom and knowledge to. I think you forget that The Lord does not need man to accomplish anything. Ezekiel 20 verse 39 As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and hereafter also, if ye will not hearken unto me: but pollute ye my...
...Teach us, O God, that nothing is necessary to Thee. Were anything necessary to Thee that thing would be the measure of Thine imperfection: and how could we worship one who is imperfect? If nothing is necessary to Thee, then no one is necessary, and if no one, then not we. Thou dost seek us though Thou does not need us. We seek Thee because we need Thee, for in Thee we live and move and have our being. Amen."
@cheryl7davis If you read in Revealation; only 2 out of 7 types of churches was Jesus pleased with. The fact of the matter is that it's not the church that is using thier God given talents to win souls. I've seen God move powerfully in anointed drama's worship teams acompanied with the uncompromised Word of God. Drawing masses to true repentence. This kind of doctrine is of a religious spirit, The fruit brings condemnation division. Not love. Satan wants to keep the church from using thier gifts
Dear @dzagarman The extent to which sheer frivolity and utterly insane amusement have been carried in connection with some places of worship would almost exceed belief...There can be no doubt that all sorts of entertainments, as nearly as possible approximating to stage-plays, have been carried on in connection with places of worship, & are, at this present time in high favour. Can these things promote holiness, or help in communion with God? Can men come away from such things & plead with God..
@dzagarman ...for the salvation of sinners and the sanctification of believers? We loathe to touch the unhallowed subject: it seems so far removed from the walk of faith and the way of heavenly fellowship. In some cases the follies complained of are even beneath the dignity of manhood, and fitter for the region of imbecile than for thoughtful men. The fact is, that many would like to unite church and stage, cards and prayer, dancing and sacraments. If we are powerless to stem this torrent...
WOW!!! talk about a religous spirit. So I guess according to this; all creative talent such as music, acting, writing, drawing & painting is not of God??? God gave us all talents to be used to bring glory to God. It is up to us to let the Holy Spirit flow through out God given talents. I agree that many churches are operating in their own strength, but His gifts & calling are without repentence & We all have unique gifts that God has given us to preach the gospel, By His Spirit not religion
This was not originally from Spurgeon. This was from the writings of Archibald Brown a contemporary of Spurgeon and partner with him during the downgrade controversy. It was originally titled the Devils Mission of Amusement
"The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
Brilliant...absolutely brilliant. I am so glad God led me to hear these words of Spurgeon, a message so urgently needed to be heard by professing Christians today.
"Christ Commands to Make Disciples, Not Returning Customers"
Amen...this one sentence speaks volumes of truth!
I encourage all Christians to save this video to their favorites, thereby helping to spread this most needed truth to those in need of hearing.
Thank you for posting this video, and may God continue to bless this ministry
LaneCh, I just wanted to leave a comment to express my personal appreciation for the awesome videos you have. I "Use your stuff" all the time in the 3D world of Kaneva and especially appreciate the Paul Washer ones; I truely admire your and his passion. Thank You!
This IS a good ministry and while you may not veiw it as such; trust me, it matters!
I felt compelled to reiterate MadMacABQ's comment. LaneCh, your ministry is valuable, do not stop posting these videos! Personally they are a tremendous blessing to myself and my wife, whom are both new-ish Christians. We joined the race a few years ago but only lately realized the absolute necessity of sound doctrine and understanding of our Lord's word. Teachings are not commonplace in my area so I MUST get equipped and teach OTHERS how to grow in God's will. Thanks for making me realize that.
as someone said to me "If you are just worried about numbers for numbers sake then you are in the flesh and not in the spirit". I am remind of the stroy of the miss. to a foriegn land who worked ten years and saw no converts. Where they are failure? Hardly. We go and tell because Jesus told us to. Thanks LaneCh. 1st Cor. 13
It is a shame to see how amny people follow complete fallacies in going to churches to jump like monkeys and to cry and to pretend they are so speritual. on the other hand so shallow and had made of the church a circus. People have no sense of knowledge nor wisdom in the word of God. Jesus said: give God what´s Gid´s and ceasar what is ceasar" simple as that dont make it difficult. John 1 what is of the flesh = flesh - what is of the spirit = spirit - I Cor. 1 to ch. 3
Jesus came to make disciples Not chrisitans, they were not called christians untill ACTS.They were called christians because they acted and walked and reminded the people of Jesus Christ. Jesus said believers will have signs mark 16:17-18 and wonders following. The many false prophets that Jesus spoke of ,has taken over with no signs and only the collection of the old testament tithe..paul they have a form of Godliness but no power...to get away from them! acts will be again.
Jesus' first words when He began to preach was "Repent, for the kindom of heaven is at hand" (Matt. 4:17), not "are you ready to rock?!?" Unless we acknowledge our own sin, there will never be true conversion. Rock concerts, basketball courts and pizza is not going to save someone.
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven."
If the church operated in the power of God in purity, there would be no need to go to plan B:amusing the people. People swarmed to Jesus because of His power, miracles and authority. The Church is called to walk as his ambassadors and bring the Kingdom of Heaven, which is by no means boring! Just think what it would be like if we all walked in faith! We would see the Glory of God in our day!
The Law has been broken!! man has lied, stolen, lusted, coveted and even used Gods name in vain, man has hated which and murdered and in danger of Hell!! rpeent and belive the Gospel!!
It isn't entertainment that is wrong - its the use of it in 'Ministry' and even then what defines entertainment..esp. when I have seen people in tears and been delivered the message of Jesus Christ via a concert/novel that HAS broken their heart. Something Spurgeon himself says in letters to my students..dont preach with a mundain tone, in a way that is uninteresting...mmm...I wonder if definition is what needs to be clarified here..
gratefulsoldier - You are correct. I attend a seeker sensitive church (and I am a seminary student) so I see entertainment all the time. Is it bad? I only think if it is at the cost of the true gospel. People are different today than they were 2000 years ago, and if we don't reach people where they are, then how to we do it?
Everytime I listen to this I am taken back to it's relevance today especially while considering how long ago Spurgeon spoke this. This seems like a sermon that just came "hot off the press" in response to an overly entertained modern church culture.
This is so true. Today churches are filled with wiccans, Masons, and Catholic ecumenical nonsense like christian "rock concerts" designed to seduce the biblical ignorant into the arms of the antichristian ecumenical movement. When Masons are leading the ship, how can you expect them not to have "fish fries" to grow the church of Jesus Christ.
Spurgeon said this roughly 130-150 years ago. Stop and think about that because if things had become that bad then what about now? All that time later we have garbage like the xxxchurch. Christ must be fuming.
One point though, xxxchurch is at least doing something. Al Mohler in an interview wasnt overly thrilled with their methods, but even he had to respect the fact they are at least trying, and making some form of head way. If there are better ways, they are more than happy to use them and integrate them.
I agree with this message whole heartedly. These "name it and claim it" preachers also contribute a great deal to atheisem. It's very easy for an individual to be "on the fence" about God, then be seduced by the words of possible blessings from the God they are'nt sure about in the first place. Then when they don't get what they ask for many individuals automatically conclude God does'nt exist. Just like the spoiled little children we are.
From what I can tell, it looks like it was a short article he wrote, and it has just been added as an appendix to several books that have been assimilated by others.
what about churches that have entertainment, but the reason they have it is not to draw "seekers," but for Christians not to be bored? r u familiar with this assemblies of God school assembly project called the 7 Project?
2cor, I frankly don't know how someone could be filled with the Holy Spirit of God and be bored with expository preaching enough to want entertainment.
I'm not familiar with the "Assemblies of God" school project.
ok, then what about just having entertainment, period. what about a church taking possession of a skating rink so Christians can go somewhere to have fun without being surrounded by vulgarity, temptations to sin, etc.
I personally am not against congregating with believers whether it be a skating rink, restaurant, etc. I actually enjoy that very much. What I am against, though, is substituting these things for growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ through the means of study and the preaching exegetically from the Scriptures which is what many in the modern church do.
What you end of getting when you forsake the essentials is a bunch of unbelievers who call themselves believers getting together doing these things because what would have taught them the truth of Christ is substituted with entertainment.
ic ic. my reason for asking if u know anything about this 7 Project I will send to your inbox since i only get 500 characters a comment and I don't want to split my explanation into 2-3 comments.
I think the true solution lies in life-on-life discipleship, the way Jesus taught his disciples. In the ministry I'm involved in we have seen many Christians with heads full of doctrine wake from years of slumber to become true followers of Christ, simply because a true disciple of Jesus came alongside them, loved them, got intimate with them in their life, prayed with them, etc. If you ask me, THAT is what the church is lacking.
Sound doctrine is of the utmost importance. If a person learns that by direct discipleship such as Clement or from hearing the Word preached to a congregation of people, the point is ultimately that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.
Faith comes by hearing, for sure. But it doesn't end with faith. Jesus said make disciples. A disciple is someone who not only believes certain things in his/her head, but lives a certain way. For me personally, centuries of God's church focusing primarily on doctrine, doctrine, doctrine, while utterly failing to live up to her calling in this world, is a clear enough demonstration that we need something different.
There are examples in the Scripture of Priscilla and Aquilla actually taking a preacher by the side to explain the Word more clearly to him after the he was finished preaching. I don't think Mark Kielar was advocating a certain way to do it in this video as much as he was showing what not doing it at all results in.
i like the critique, but i think the solution he gives is lacking. True, most Christians who are not living out their faith do need a clearer understanding of doctrine. But how do they get it? By hearing MORE sermons, MORE church services?
I began to cry as I listened to this...praying for God to raise up "men" for our time to preach the Gospel in truth, by the Power of the Holy Spirit. Men who will and are living their lives as Paul and Timothy might live...not compromising the grace of God.
The word amuse according to Webster's is to divert the attention in order to deceive. We are a society addicted to amusement. Is it any wonder the church is so screwed up.
I Timothy 4:1-2 Now the Spirit expressly says that in the LATTER times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron.
Which writing of Spurgeon is this?

Jesus came to make disciples Not chrisitans, they were not called christians untill ACTS.They were called christians because they acted and walked and reminded the people of Jesus Christ. Jesus said believers will have signs mark 16:17-18 and wonders following. The many false prophets that Jesus spoke of ,has taken over with no signs and only the collection of the old testament tithe..paul they have a form of Godliness but no power...to get away from them! acts will be again.

WOW...so true!

Thank you Lane for the great videos.

If only more people would heed this message! Sadly, you can't even count on most pastors to get this right nowadays.

It isn't entertainment that is wrong - its the use of it in 'Ministry' and even then what defines entertainment..esp. when I have seen people in tears and been delivered the message of Jesus Christ via a concert/novel that HAS broken their heart. Something Spurgeon himself says in letters to my students..dont preach with a mundain tone, in a way that is uninteresting...mmm...I wonder if definition is what needs to be clarified here..
gratefulsoldier 3 years ago
gratefulsoldier - You are correct. I attend a seeker sensitive church (and I am a seminary student) so I see entertainment all the time. Is it bad? I only think if it is at the cost of the true gospel. People are different today than they were 2000 years ago, and if we don't reach people where they are, then how to we do it?
markthaddeus24 3 years ago
Everytime I listen to this I am taken back to it's relevance today especially while considering how long ago Spurgeon spoke this. This seems like a sermon that just came "hot off the press" in response to an overly entertained modern church culture.

@churchofgrace Amen. God never changes.

Amazing! I love Spurgeon's sermons and writings. :)
outrageousgrace7 3 years ago 2
Spurgeon said this roughly 130-150 years ago. Stop and think about that because if things had become that bad then what about now? All that time later we have garbage like the xxxchurch. Christ must be fuming.
theocratickingdom30 3 years ago
One point though, xxxchurch is at least doing something. Al Mohler in an interview wasnt overly thrilled with their methods, but even he had to respect the fact they are at least trying, and making some form of head way. If there are better ways, they are more than happy to use them and integrate them.

They're doing something alright:

Professing atheists do things, too.

Yeah, poor Charles would have a stroke if he saw the church today...very sad.

God, we need more like Spurgeon today more than ever.

Just like the spoiled little children we are.

yeah that would be great. what book?

From what I can tell, it looks like it was a short article he wrote, and it has just been added as an appendix to several books that have been assimilated by others.

Can you tell me what book this is in. Very powerful message

what about churches that have entertainment, but the reason they have it is not to draw "seekers," but for Christians not to be bored? r u familiar with this assemblies of God school assembly project called the 7 Project?
2corinthians710 4 years ago
2cor, I frankly don't know how someone could be filled with the Holy Spirit of God and be bored with expository preaching enough to want entertainment.
I'm not familiar with the "Assemblies of God" school project.
LaneCh 4 years ago
ok, then what about just having entertainment, period. what about a church taking possession of a skating rink so Christians can go somewhere to have fun without being surrounded by vulgarity, temptations to sin, etc.
2corinthians710 4 years ago
I personally am not against congregating with believers whether it be a skating rink, restaurant, etc. I actually enjoy that very much. What I am against, though, is substituting these things for growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ through the means of study and the preaching exegetically from the Scriptures which is what many in the modern church do.
LaneCh 4 years ago
What you end of getting when you forsake the essentials is a bunch of unbelievers who call themselves believers getting together doing these things because what would have taught them the truth of Christ is substituted with entertainment.
LaneCh 4 years ago
ic ic. my reason for asking if u know anything about this 7 Project I will send to your inbox since i only get 500 characters a comment and I don't want to split my explanation into 2-3 comments.

Ok. I'll be looking for it.

If you ask me, THAT is what the church is lacking.
tracethetree 4 years ago
Sound doctrine is of the utmost importance. If a person learns that by direct discipleship such as Clement or from hearing the Word preached to a congregation of people, the point is ultimately that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.
LaneCh 4 years ago
Faith comes by hearing, for sure. But it doesn't end with faith. Jesus said make disciples. A disciple is someone who not only believes certain things in his/her head, but lives a certain way. For me personally, centuries of God's church focusing primarily on doctrine, doctrine, doctrine, while utterly failing to live up to her calling in this world, is a clear enough demonstration that we need something different.
tracethetree 4 years ago
Do you realize that you just preached "doctrine, doctrine, doctrine"?:
"A disciple is someone who not only believes certain things in his/her head, but lives a certain way."
The greek word for doctrine is didache and it simply means "teaching; what is being taught".
LaneCh 4 years ago
There are examples in the Scripture of Priscilla and Aquilla actually taking a preacher by the side to explain the Word more clearly to him after the he was finished preaching. I don't think Mark Kielar was advocating a certain way to do it in this video as much as he was showing what not doing it at all results in.
LaneCh 4 years ago
i like the critique, but i think the solution he gives is lacking. True, most Christians who are not living out their faith do need a clearer understanding of doctrine. But how do they get it? By hearing MORE sermons, MORE church services?
tracethetree 4 years ago
I began to cry as I listened to this...praying for God to raise up "men" for our time to preach the Gospel in truth, by the Power of the Holy Spirit. Men who will and are living their lives as Paul and Timothy might live...not compromising the grace of God.
mercy92399 4 years ago 5
The word amuse according to Webster's is to divert the attention in order to deceive. We are a society addicted to amusement. Is it any wonder the church is so screwed up.
I Timothy 4:1-2 Now the Spirit expressly says that in the LATTER times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron.

My prayer is that every Christian would have this kind of passion and devotion to Christ...
