  • @nector1592 Yeah, I second that. I'll have to buy a suit first, though. Then, I'll go climb a 5.13. Right now I'm only good enough to climb 5.11s.

  • Now what is it with the sports tops - in this vid, your sweat has womans sport on it....on your salsa making video, there was something equally feminine!!!

great stuff keep it up guys!!

  • Waterproof rolling papers... lol

  • beginner climber here...why are there two sets of chains?

When I was at the rock yesterday...i noticed up top that there were two bolts...like you have here...but there was one length of chain suspended between them...then our rope was ran through that so we could belay down...

is that a sketchy way of doing things?

  • Mate your a crack up. Tunnel mountain in Banff? lucky man!

I believe in Oz they prefer to rebolt their own rigs so i'll leave it to them

  • you can also pull a bight through the chain, tie a loop and clip it with a locking carabiner to your harness (or use a mid-rope tie in), and then untie the end and pull it through so that you never risk dropping the rope.

  • The point of this video is that it is chain ends and it is not possible to put a bite threw the chain ends. We cover the bite and locking carabiner in a couple other videos where we have larger rap rings.

  • Waterproof rolling papers! Where did you find those?

  • Players Green or is Export green papers anyhow everybody know that where you from?

  • @mikebarter387 those papers suck. i'm beginning to doubt your wealth of knowledge. i would NEVER take waterproof papers climbing; they go out far too often, especially on windy rock faces. i'de recommend a hefty 1 1/4 rice paper.

  • You talk about the girt hitch what do you think to using a cows tail (larks foot)?

  • They are the same thing I believe.

  • similar the way i do it is to pass the sling through the loops that the belay loop runs through then one end through the sling like the girth hitch. probably easier to show than explain. Love all your vids mind you they are ace and funny too

  • That is the totally safe way and eliminates a link in the chain. That is something I always condone if possible. The belay loop should withstand any force you can apply to it if not why are you wearing that harness? I was just debunking the wear safety issue at the end of the video. The method you suggest is what the gear maker would probebly recommend.

  • yeh definatley debunk the idea that girth hitching on the belay loop is going to damage it. Of course it wont.

cheeres mike keep up the good work with the vids.

I want your back yard by the way. Ha Ha

  • same knot, different names

  • I wonder when Arc'teryx will release their professional, soft-shell, tuxedo jacket to the general public.

  • I was taking to Tom Fayle head of RD for Arc'Teryx the other day and he didn't mention anything about a general release. Something about waiting for matching boots to get approved.

  • Great video! I love your backyard!

  • I like it also. Tunnel mountain comes right to the deck. It is trying to reclaim the house. Hence the heavy bag it is a constant battle to keep it at bay.

  • dude, you seriously crack me up.

  • Mike, love your sense of humor about the whole thing. This approach suits you well, har har.

  • I don't know. This is the way that I have always seen them. I think you would prefer to have two chains, weak link thing and all. We we don't as a community all carry a few bitchin quick links beats me also. Perhaps those who climb routes but don't develop take it upon themselves to help out and replace them with ring bolts. Perhaps they don't feel qualified to do that or figure the creator of the route may get upset. Doubt that would happen though.

  • was that suit polyester? - how standards are slipping - you want to be taken seriously you have to climb in tweeds, there's no other way :)

btw - serious question - is there any particular reason why the lower-off chains are separate instead of a single length attached to both bolts?

  • Sorry your answer is above your post

  • Your the greatest! Your workout is better than P90X!!!!
