Why are people so negative about women in salsa.?She's a strong, beautiful, creative dancer (Yesenia too). Known for their unique, dynamic styles. So let's acknowledge their achivements.
Yesenia, Candy, Griselle Ponce - all teachers in their own right. I'm sure the criticism will only make them be even BETTER than they already are.
@milagros102 - Strong, beautiful, creative. Yes, I agree. However if an 'unknown' dancer did that at a congress, you guys would probably all be whispering saying, "Look at her?!?"
@SalsaCritic Before these ladies studied salsa, they studied the elements salsa come from. A part of this is African movement, body isolation, guaguanco, rumba etc - depends on the island you hail from. However, if i saw a woman doing this on the dancefloor, I'd applaude, she's taken ownership of her body and is aware of herself. Strange how western culture is still dictating / interpreting the movements of ethnic women in a derogatory way. Maybe you should stick to dancing ballroom..
This was the BOMB!!! Asi se baila... Much style, power and SABOR......This is how women in salsa should dance. Thats why these are 2 of the best in the business. BTW -- CANDY could do that SALSACRITIC......IF YOU GOT IT YOU CAN FLAUNT IT.................MUCH LOVE TO MY SISTERS. YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING.
@SalsaCritic i agree, it was distasteful. i see plenty of dancers just crossing the line all the time between salsa and ... whatever that is, showing their ass, grabbing their crotch, hitting their butt (i.e. Jennifer Silvas with Vasquez), wearing lingerie, etc.. i feel like some dancers, because they've reached a high level in their salsa career, resort to the shock-effect to "awe" people and give them something "new", and sometimes its just ... distasteful...and thats just MY opinion...
@Romania4trutine - Please add Melissa Fernandez and Luis Vazquez to that list. All of them are looking to shock people when they run out of material or to get an applause. It's sad. I haven't lost all hope...yet. Hopefully these people can get it together - especially since some of them are parents. When their kids go to school, they will have classmates who can see these videos and point and laugh and say, "Did you see her mama? HAHAHAHA"
