I was down there (at the Park) on the afternoon of the 15th. I tried to keep an eye out for you but didn't see you. It's astonishing to me how many people were there. I'll try to get the video I took of the park out (mostly just shots of the crowd) out in a few days.
Damn, sorry I missed you. I was out all day trying to get that camera fixed. Glad you got to see it for yourself. Just think, if we make something happen, you can say you were there.
I don't think we can get rid of government corruption until we have competitive elections. We can't have competitive elections until we have a voting system in which we don't have to vote for the lesser of two evils.
@1983Bantam We probably can't get rid of it completely, but we can try to minimize it as much as possible. The problem is that our particular style of government is a hotbed for corruption.
@1983Bantam "you have to fight government itself."
Sounds like you might support anarchism, which I think is an awesome idea, but I think that it can't possibly work until we are free of punitive, coercive morality. I think anarchy could work great if everyone were more emotionally healthy. In the mean time, eliminating corruption could give us at least a better government than we have now.
I feel terrible the best I can do is sign a petition when I'd rather be there with all of you. So many people like myself WANT to be there, WANT to be a part & WANT to attempt change things, not only for ourselves but for our children as they graduate college with worthless degrees they've worked so hard for, yet can do nothing with. It would take everything I have to get there & I'd have to pull my children from school & bring them with me.. just not possible.
@sheri226 "So many people like myself WANT to be there, WANT to be a part & WANT to attempt change things"
You are a part of it. Each person physically occupying represents thousands of people just like you who want change but have other obligations. You are contributing. Note that I'm on my way home now, in large part because I think my best contribution to the world is to be there for my kid.
@GreatBigBore *smiles* Much respect & thank you for letting us tag along. I'm glad to hear you're headed home friend, I started to seriously worry about you in "6.2" The difference in your appearance from 'P&R Tour 1.0' to now... well, let's just say I'll be glad when you reach home. You need a good night sleep in *your* bed, a home cooked meal & lots of hugs from your little one. Thanks again & please let us know when you've reached home via a bulletin. Be safe.
The purpose of an economy is to provide all the citizens the things they need to live. This system is failing in many basic ways and hurting many people in many major ways, something has to change. We need to guarantee lawful behavior in the old and start a new system that learns from the mistakes of the past to study how to build a sustainable and fair future for all of humanity, not just the attractive light skinned ones. I say, housing, food, education, transportation, and health care, free.
Not sure. One minute it was working fine, the next minute it was saying that an error occurred. Then it just kept shutting itself off. Fortunately, I found a temporary solution; working on 7.3 right now.
Until all this came together, I had been worried that this country would go down, totally swallowed up, enslaved by the corporate czars, because people were asleep...distracted by video games and reality TV and meaningless twitter. The working class would become the cattle of the rich, yet I heard no angry voices raised in protest. Today,I see the young chanting (as my generation once did)...and I know the "torch has been passed"...and the young people are worthy of the challenge. So Proud.
I am so proud of the young people who have participated in these demonstrations. They have shown an example of activism to other Americans, and it is spreading..first to other cities, and now sympathy marches are happening all over the world. I'm too old to sleep on the pavement and remain on my feet all day. But when I was young, I was out there adding my voice to thousands of others about social wrongs. I feel such a kinship with you and your ilk, GBB. You are patriots. I'm so proud of you.
You don't need to sign any petition to stay in a public park. It is a public park that is supposed to be open 24/7. The corporation that was going to build there couldn't do to zoning and the deal was that it stay open and public 24/7 in some sort of exchange. TYT covered it the other day. Check it out. I have enjoyed your daily broadcast of your stay there. You kick ass GBB!! Thanks you for your participation in the protest for all of us that could be there. Good luck in DC.
@rich2rock It ISN'T a public park. It's private property that's normally open for public use. Of course, when people monopolize it and don't let others use it...
@evensgrey In 1968 that corporation made a deal with the government. The trade was government subsidy in exchange for that park to remain a public park 24/7/365. It isn't private property.
@rich2rock Does the City of New York have an estimate on how much cleaning up the mess the brats are making is going to cost the City once they get bored and go back to their parents?
@GreatBigBore Can you link me to some centralized information on the marches, I have been researching them for weeks now and I still don't quiet understand. I understand the general discontent, but I want specific examples.
Are we demonizing the rich? Or the people who abuse power? If so who are those specific people. I guess my evidence based mind just really needs some specifics, examples. It would be much appreciated, and I think it would help convince more people like me to participate.
I don't demonize the rich; only those who abuse their wealth. Warren Buffet is one of the good guys, for example.
Money buys access. It gets the wording of a bill changed. It gets an exception to an industry. It gives a special loophole in tax law. Example: hedge fund managers are allowed to claim a substantial part of their income as capital gains, and thus pay only 15%. Sweet deail for millionaires to cut their tax tab 60%.
The closest thing to centralized info would be on nycga.cc -- but it represents only the people who regularly attend the general assembly meetings, which is maybe 25% or less.
"Are we demonizing the rich"
Admittedly, many here are running on emotion and don't really understand what the problem is. Some really do think that rich people are the problem. They aren't, and neither is abuse of power. The problem is that it's legal to bribe politicians.

Government corruption is integral to government. Fighting government corruption is a waste of time - you have to fight government itself.
