I remember when this happened I lived in PSL, and it was supposed to hit the bahamas and roll out back to the atlantic and then it turned around and it was only supposed to be like a cat 1 and then it got strong overnight and we were like ohh shit wtf do we do now? because we lived in an older stick house instead of the newer cat 5 tested block houses
I remember clearly when this happened. I was living in PSL and got a room at the Holiday Inn on US1 next to Sonny's bbq. The windows were blown in on the north side of the building and the a/c unit blew across the roof. Then the eye passed over and the wind shifted and came from the south. Our window was very close to blowing in so we got the mattresses and got into the next room for the rest of the night.
is that really the satalight image of jean? wow more organized than i remembered. still a powerful storm i live in melbourne and there was peoples roofs up in trees and odd damage like that
im moving to port saint lucie in exactly 2 weeks..i have family there and in stuart..its very beautiful down there (I live in NY right now)..and hurricanes just come with the territory..it sucks but what can you do? I would still choose to live in PSL even if we have to deal with hurricanes. =D
I wish I had taken footage from my house. My neighbor did though; during Frances and Jeane. I video taped parts of Wilma. Hurricanes SUCK, and Frances was really loud.
Hurricane Frances was a pain. Jeanne was bad, but Frances was worse. Me and about four other people were in my parent's closet for about 6 hours. After that, we just said, "screw it," and sat in the living room for the next couple of hours. It actually wasn't that bad. I actually look at it nostalgically.
I can vouch for the vid description about the frogs croaking during the eye of Jeanne. I live out near Windmill Point, in Port St. Lucie... and it was like the Book of Exodus had come to life or something... there were frogs everywhere... you couldn't walk a foot without stepping on a frog... there were frogs on people's roofs and whatnot... it was insane. But I'd rather go through a fast moving Cat. 3 storm like Jeanne than the slow moving Cat. 2 that Frances was, any day.
I remember this. Yeah, our lives pretty much sucked for two years because of those three storms. -.- My cieling collapsed in one room, my roof was leaking pretty badly in all parts of my house, it took a week for my parents and myself to clean all the water damage, and most of our sophets were gone. =/ My neighborhood looked like it'd be struck with a small bomb, it was crazy. Gators EVERYWHERE, bunch of eyes staring in the river. Transformers blowing, fences hitting the windows, the walls moved
Well, actually we had a huge chunk of our roof missing 'cause of the oven vent being torn off and thrown two blocks down. We had people coming to other people's houses from down the street (we did this too) 'cause they had eachother's lawn stuff, and pieces of their house. >_>
I was inspecting damage on a Home in PSL after Jeanne (by Green River Pkwy)
Apparently an imbedded Tornado had removed the water & filter from pool along with some hurricane panels. The pressure was so great that all of the tapcons were ripped away along with large pieces of the concrete deck.
i was in a shelter during this in psl although i had a safe house i was too chicken to stay in it. the wind sounded like an angry wild animal, very scary!
Had to go to Jacksonville to get away from that hurricane.
