  • can some one do a piano cover and turtorial for this performance

  • This song also brings back great memories for me. In the late 90's I was the bass player in a covers band with 2 female singers and a male singer/keyboard player (who later went on to be Benny in Bjorn Again!). We used to open with this, and although the bass line is repetitive, it's great to play because the songs' so damn good. Deacon Blue are still one of my all time faves..

  • @ednablanco1This song is a classic......If any musician treats this song with the respect and honour it deserves then any cover will just be as good

Just to cover it brings it in disrepute

  • Is it wrong that she is 47 and I still think she looks amazing?

  • Maybe I'm the only one who bought their 33 album in Italy "when the world knows your name"; it was 1989 and they were superb ... incredibly to me, they still are. Sent from above to illuminate our souls.

  • A friend of ours lived in a terraced house and worked in the steel fabrication and welding industry. At the age of 35 started building his own boat, sold his house to buy the mast and sails and 5 years later now lives aboard with his wife in the Carribean. They work one night a week in a restaurant - he a barman, she a waitress - just enough to earn as much money as they need - the rest of the time is as in the song. Back to work at 9am Monday for me though !!!

  • @dmc71xxx Start saving, follow the dream.

  • @dmc71xxx Nice story dmc. I don't have my own yacht but work on those owned by the rich and famous. Used to work in a boring job in Liverpool for 11 years. Been travelling the world for the last 10 years and the last 12 months in Thailand. This song gets me every time!

  • i have a tear in my eye, im 27!!! this version is ..... i cant explain how i feel... sad and happy but.... WOW, ok now its my 11th time in a row now to listen :-)

  • Having worked in a really crap job...cleaning up peoples puke..and looking afer drunks for 5 quid an hour....This song kicks ass!!

    ALWAYS KEEP YOUR DIGNITY......

  • this video is better than the original official video

  • They've always been known as a Glasgow band even though Ricky's from Dundee and Lorraine's from Cumnock. Glasgow is their adopted home town as a band I think which I as a Glaswegian am very glad about. Love them, I first heard this as a very young child and I'm now in my thirties. They haven't changed at all, good to see Jim on piano too.

  • Maynard Keynes!

    So proud ;)

  • awesome!!!! im a bin man and this is my anthem!!!!

  • Incerible canción, me encanta!!!

  • Fuck Me! They come from Dundee and are proud to be Scottish! Are all you poeple deaf!

s turned you into a bitter nomark

  • How could anyone slate this? It's so lovely.

  • Trust me mate, I fucking could.

  • In the 80s better bands where playing the pubs and clubs of Glasgow when they played the SECC.

  • Sorry, Hes not a great singer very poor infact, and shes not any better. i liked the songs from deacon blue but the singing was pish live because live you only ever have one take. far better out there by far. sorry. :-/

  • What sort of a numpty things Deacon Blue are Australian? Get that comment removed please guys lol.

Greatest scottish outfit of the 80's and 90's - love it

  • Yes................Scottish for sure !

  • he kinda has an australian look about him lol

  • Awesome arrangement!

  • They happen to be Scottish

  • bazadata, the 'pianist' is Jim Prime, who co-wrote the bloody thing.

  • 2ND song played at my dear husband Michaels' funeral

    Great song

  • They look fantastic! I wish I'd woren so well :D And the sound as great as ever. This is music. People who know how to sing, play their own instruments (not in this video obvioulsy). The 80's were a fantastic era for pop music.

  • well done mr ross

  • What are you talkin' about?

  • So sad. A song that blows your mind in the original and Manchester Studio's says speed it up we have a pianist for you.

  • great scottish band qulity song

  • in extreme south of europe (sicily) I grew up with this song....home, faith, work!!!...unforgettable!

  • shes hot

  • A truly great song. It captures the essence of sailing away - or any other way of working hard to follow a dream. I sailed the Pacific for two years. I have been back to "normal" life working for 9 years since. Dignity rips into me every time. Those two years will be with me always.

  • I love this version; a sign of a great song is when it can be stripped down and bare and it still packs a solid punch. I posted a video response showing the full live band version done around the same time

  • r i p aj

  • his wife is still gorgeous

just wish he could find the same writing he had in those early days

  • so do i eleven38. timeless song, i'll never get bored of listening to it, and of course watching Lorraine !

  • This makes me cown every time I hear it. Just beautiful.

  • That's music. Our town was my first album and still one of my favourites.

Should have been as big as elvis (not weight wise).

  • Will be seeing them on 29th November when they support the Mighty SIMPLE MINDS

  • I saw them once, musta been ten years ago? in LIverpool - whole damned venue was GUTTED when they played Dignity with just a piano!

    Works on the telly though...

  • still kick ass! damn great artist!

  • What a magical, simple song. No glitz no boom just a story of following a dream and the sad truth is 99.9% of us never follow our dreams and we will be left wishing ...........

  • @hollowedhead What a beautiful, meaningful, touching comment. I copied it into my FB page when I shared this extraordinary gem from the DB. Thank you for posting

  • 20 years ago...in Italy too we still sing "Work Home Faith"!!!

  • Okay I'm a Trekky. I've got green blood and stuff like that.... Anyway the starship in me followed a thread. This is linked to Kintyre. Now didn't Paul McCartney do a song about that? And isn't his ex a bitch? Hilarious how everything is connected.

  • Classic. If I could turn back time I'd love to be in that studio.

  • Brilliant with just piano.

  • went to see these guys in llandudno got to shake the great mans hand what a fantastic group and great version of a great classic

  • How I love to put my head back twenty years. This song never fails to take me back and well up the feelings I had in the care free days. I dont wish to go back Im just so glad I had such great memories of those times..

I'm smiling as I write and that can't be bad can it !

  • feel the same way, its a good feeling though, all the great carefree days

  • well said!

  • Do you know what! The other day my son of 9 years old was playing some music in his bedroom and I shouted up and told him to turn it down!

After sitting back down I realised what an old fart I had become and the daily financial pressures had taken away the ME!! I was so annoyed with myself that I went upstairs with my old Deacon Blue CDs and blasted out FERGUS SINGS THE BLUES, WAGES DAY, CHOCALATE GIRL etc.. Never again am I allowing this pressure to take away who I am NO MORE!!!!!

  • Go you!

  • @hollowedhead i totally agree, ive felt that way so many times, shouting at the kids etc, its not right is it? the pressure of living is so much

  • @hollowedhead ...Brilliant ....well done...if have to watch alllways !

  • A classic so moving lyrics, really epitomises Britain a few decades ago. This song will never age. Thanks guys. A1
