  • Jeon Do-yeon is no doubt one of South Korea's most talented actresses. I've watched some of her previous films which are absolutely astonishing. They don't call her the "Queen of Cannes" for nothing.

  • I'm watching it now and about an hour into it,.. its not bad , kinda deep.

  • Wo~~w, really feeling this trailer. Very powerful stuff. I don't even understand what they are saying. Aiyaiyai, tearing a bit. I'm gonna watch this movie.

  • Does anyone happen to know the title to the first song?"

Its a beautiful piece i'd love to play for my sister. (:

    Thanks in advance.

  • is this movie religious? if it is, i wont watch it. someone respond

  • @ElnAlter well. It's a very mature drama. Religion is a theme of the character but not really a religious movie.

  • most academy award entries are VERY serious/ sad movies for the most part.

  • SHITTY SHITTY SHITTY UNTRUTHFULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOSERS

  • Song called?

  • this is one of the most powerful movie.

but i was moved even more by 'you are my sunshine'

    jeon do-yeon is the miracle.

definately the best actress so far.

  • Jeon Do-yeon won the Best Actress prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival for her performance in the South Korean film Jeon is the first Asian to win this prestigious prize.

  • @orosiom Maggie Cheung won for her performance in 'Clean' in 2004, so I guess that Jeon Do-yeon is the second Asian actress to win at Cannes. ;)

  • There is a plot line in the description, to those, like me, that were left wondering with the lack of subtitles.

  • I watched this film at the Telluride Film Festival when it first premiered. I thought it was quite an eye opening movie. Very VERY dramatic and emotional but completely pulls you in every second of the way.

(especially if you've experienced losing someone very close and dear to you)

This was almost comparable to the other film I watched while I was there; Brick Lane. Both of these films are a definite must see!

  • Wish it had subtitles, it looks really dramatic.

  • Is there a trailer with english subtitles? Because if you draw conclusions judging by what you see, there's four consecutive scenes with her crying and screaming.

I'd just like to know, because this movie sounds really, really interesting.

  • @arthereld it is an indie movie because it isnt hollywood. it was in the cans film festival. cans film festival is for independent films (indie films).

  • @LetsLovex3

An indie film is a movie that isn't made by Hollywood? Are you saying that every S. Korean film is indie?

Secret sunshine was distributed/produced by CJ Entertainment, the largest entertainment company in S. Korea. Does that sound independent? Song Kang Ho and Lee Chang-dong are extremely famous in the Korean movie industry.

News flash! Other countries make good movies too. Its extremely ignorant to state that because a movie isn't American, that its indie.

  • @LetsLovex3 People will take your opinion seriously when you learn how to spell. It's Cannes, not cans... And just because a movie is not made in Hollywood, doesn't mean that it's an indie movie.

  • I never liked Jeon Do-yeon that much in the past but that's changing as the years pass. Don't know why......

  • How many indi movies are gonna have the word sunshine in them?

  • @arthereld are you calling this an Indie movie? Just because it isn't hollywood, doesn't mean its indie. This movie stars Song Kang Ho, one of Koreas biggest actors.

  • @rustychance

A lot of indie films have well-known A-list actors--actors who are serious about their craft I'm sure.

  • this is also included in this year's Cinemanila International Film Fest!!!

  • One of the most powerful film ever

    magnificent

  • no subs in this trailer :(

  • @StrangeGentile that's not another Harry's Potter chapter, no sir...

  • @StrangeGentile This is one of the best movies to have come out of Korea. I cannot believe you just said what you said.

  • Looks awesome

  • the happy parts in the trailer remind me of my stufftoys............................ the sad parts dont remind me of anything

  • why is youtube letting advertisements on before the videos seriously what the eefffff

  • she is undoubtedly one of the best actress in korea. definitely deserved the best actress award. i can still clearly remember the chill this movie sent down my spine. and a big factor is because she was able to give life to the character and not just plain acting.

  • how convenient god is for death row prisoners.

  • How to forgive the unforgivable? The question is strongly echoing throughout this film. Very impressive!

  • I agree. Some people tend to focus on the sadness and depressing vibe of the film when it's not about that or even about the twists that happen. For me, this movie is about how God is in our hands, much more than we are in His. How we use God for what we need whether that being understanding the ugly side of life, forgeving ourselves or others or converting others to our beliefs.

  • It's a very sad movie but that's not what the movie is about. It's about faith and whether faith in God is enough to understand and accept the unfairness of life and strong enough for us, humans, to forgive things that only God could forgive.

  • 밀양(2007) After losing her husband, a woman relocates to a small-town called Milyang for a new start. When tragedy strikes, one local man stands by her through all of her struggles and tries to offer her hope.

At the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. Jeon Do-yeon won the Best Actress award.

  • its something about the kid....i guess...idont know!!

  • actually i don't really understood what's this movie about....

    It's look very saad.

can anybody explain the story for me please??

  • read the youtube video description....

  • this was a sad movie.

  • where can i get korean movies reasonably priced with subtitling?

  • it's actually not

it's a deeply thought-provoking movie that makes you think about the christian religion and the way people can use it against others

  • it's an korean movie, not chinese.

  • woow it gave me chills watching it...

  • This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. It stands neither for nor against anything. It just shows the real feelings of a real woman / mother. Outstanding acting of jeon do-yeon.

  • absolutely

and its still without a uk distributor

    scandalous.

  • this movie looks crazy

  • it isnt anti-god or anti-anything it shows us a side what we dont see.

it isnt saying the woman who jeon do yeon act hates god. we dont know if she really hates him. what we can know is she is asking to god to all how can god save and forgive someone from sin, someone who isnt forgiven by thoes people who he hurt really. i think it matters a lot

  • I complete agree. I think her rage against God reflects her pain. She is the victim here.

  • yeah, jeon do yun's acting is crazy. she is probably one of the top 10 in all of asia.

  • the movie is for mature audience. so maybe thats why it doesnt catch ur attention. ???

  • True that. It is too slow a movie for me.

  • This movie contains strong ctiticisms about christian belief in God. As a muslim guy, this movie was quite useful to distinguish the basic difference about the forgiveness of God between christianity and islam. Anyway actually the subject is about a woman moving to a new city and the upsetting things that she faced with in this city with her son.

  • i watched this movie!it has a nice story but it becomes really dramatic!she hates god making fun of him!its not really the best movie!good actress however!

  • so powerful like Oasis

  • jeon do-yeon est tres bonne actrice! vous devez voir "you are my sunshine" (tu es mon soleil). quand j'ai vu ce film, j'ai envie de pleurer aussi.

  • Now i see why people love jeon do yeon so much

The emotions are rending. Makes me depressed thinking about this film.

  • this is the official entry by Korea to the Academy Awards of 2008

  • Ce film est brillant,il me renverse j'ai vraiment eu envie de pleurer pendant ce film!!!

  • the best korean movie i've ever seen. acting was simply fantastic!

  • i love Jun Do Yeon in Lovers in Prague. Can't wait to watch this movie. =]

  • Cannes movie star Jeondoyeon^^

  • congrats to Jeon Do Yeon!

  • JEON Do-yeon wins the Best Actress award at Cannes!

  • yeah, quite a few korean journos are careless with spoilers. in this case director, stars, promo (even the trailer) gave a twist away, because it's just one among many. and the focus is on aftermaths, not one incident. what'd be spoiler in the west is a selling point for the story. and it's a blend of genres too, not strictly "what happens next"-thriller.

  • I understand that it's an element of the story, but it does take a good deal of the impact away further removing the audience from Shin-ae's perspective which is a shame really.

  • interesting...you mean we share less of her emotions during the experience, if we know it'd happen? is empathy predicated on suspense, not knowing? hitchcock'd agree:D

  • What I'm saying is that we lose part of the experience by knowing beforehand what happens. The director does not put a twist in the tale without reason and in this case, the twist underlines the seemingly meaningless and random fate of Shin-ae.

  • The tricky part is what an artist (the director) decides to do with such experience, which is actually open to how different viewers experience it. some ppl watch for ruminating on the aftermaths or emotive qualities of the experience as a phenomenon on its own (e.g. we all know how life ends, but it doesn't detract from life as multifaceted experience). some ppl watch for the moment of the shocking twist/turn.

  • watching it a as thriller, the 1st part of your stance (director's twist is purposeful) is absolutely essential. as philosophical observation (i.e. the 2nd part of your comment), it can be appreciated whether the thriller construct is intact (spoiled or not in advance.) i'm just saying for different people the movie works differently - some people need all ducks in a row, some don't. they eventually all come into similar ballpark of appreciating the general themes - such as those in Milyang.

  • a final note, is director lee chang-dong is rather known for having the bulk of his movies made up of how people wallow in or fight their psycho-emotional states after having the proverbial rug constantly pulled out from under them. this happens endlessly in all his films save for the gangster-family genre of his debut. just sprawling character studies w/ constant ebbs/flows of life. looks like his latest Poetry (may 2010) will be similar, if not quite as intensely OTT due to actor's age?

  • Jeon Do-Yeon rulez!!!

  • official selection for the Festival de Cannes, France

  • this movie looks crazy
