  • @MaderTB what parts did you use. Where did you get them?

  • @alexzracer2008

I got the parts from eBikes.ca - all except for the parts that come from Currie directly (such as the second 36V battery).

  • any chance you could teach me a thing or two about doing this? I want to make a 48volt with a motor. What motor do you think is the best? am I allowed to put my email address on here?

  • @rogerL1961 Any questions feel free to ask. If you are putting together a kit from scratch, I recommend eBikes.ca personally. If you want to take a low-cost Currie eBike and make it go fast, I can help you... check out my other youtube videos (48V Currie eBike)

  • All electric bikes can be upgraded - it's just a matter of how many components have to be changed. Generally you can replace with a higher voltage battery, and higher voltage controller, and you get more speed. Within reason... you can push 50% faster generally without overheating. 2x will definitely overheat the motor (I've tried it... I had the Zuma running close to 40mph but burned out the motor after couple months).

  • Can electric bikes usually be upgraded like this? Before the upgrade how fast could you go?

  • @vistigioful Increase battery voltage and increase controller voltage. (will require a new charger) This applies to hubs more than Gear-drive motors. (unless you put the hub on a gear drive which has also been done) Hubs will usually need the higher voltage (unless on gear drive with proper ratio) and Gear-drives will usually not need as much voltage (because of it's low voltage high rpm ratio) however, will need more amperage.

  • @vistigioful For anyone who tries it, I would suggest to do some tests/rides with it and see the temperature range of the motor in different conditions but don't test in the cold, the warmth will give you a proper test. For the smaller motors 750 and under, it will not take as long of load to get these really hot as the larger motors. Be careful how much you increase voltage and current.

  • Kauaikit,

I had an iZip Express and now I've sold it. It has interesting possibilities, the motor is DC for example, but it is rather complicated to do upgrades to the battery system.

If you are looking for an iZip Zuma I have an extra one (stock form) in my garage - I can sell it to you for a steal if you want - let me know.

    Tom

  • Gee....looks like your got some coin in the iZip bikes with your upgrades.

Please, let's have a review of the iZip Express in a before & after tweek? :-)

I now have 9 ebikes, with 5 EVG's & 4 Tidalforce bikes that I ride. So you upgrades are interesting to watch. I'm currently bidding on a BN '10 Zuma, as it appears to be a TF IO cruiser "lite". Though I need 30 mph + in performance, because having a limit of 20 mph just isn't cutt'n it as I'm sure you can relate.

  • Kauaikit, thanks for the comments. The weight balance is not that critical for a road commute such as mine. For an electric mountain bike it matters a whole lot more... I am working on it. I have an iZip Express which is actually a very nice eBike, well balanced with the batteries and motor in the center of the bike.

  • Nice upgrade on this bike....though let's see the "tech" part of Mader Tech figure a 60V lithium battery setup in the space above the pedals, for better balance, AKA Bionx case. Put the controller on the lower rear seat post too?

Though if your really techie, figure out a lithium battery setup in a front hub, via the tidalforce bike setup, for even better balance?

Good to see 30 mph+ on any ebike....which now makes it fun. :-)

  • Very nice!
